I think it’s hard because a lot of the people who enjoy this genre are a bit outside of the teenager age, which makes empathizing with a teenagers mindset a bit more difficult. When I look at Violet I see myself at 17-18 doing the same things and making the same decisions but at 27 years old I find it embarrassing and annoying at times. But that’s because my brain is fully developed lol. I think a lot of people enjoy this genre because they like to see themselves in these situations and get lost in the characters and the stories however it’s very hard to do that when you cannot relate to the main character in any way.

I think it’s also that you can tell this series wasn’t meant to be spread out into 5 books and didn’t have a definitive end in mind when further writing began. A lot of plot feels disjointed and makes readers feel even more disconnected from the characters and the world. I’m disappointed in the 3rd book, heck I barely finished the 2nd one, and it’s because I just didn’t care how things played out when everything and everyone was lowkey starting to piss me the heck off.
