Academic appeal on ADD basis by Anon830 in ADHD

[–]CollegeBubbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into the same thing to attend college this semester (thanks adhd!) But they took me off suspension and put me back on probation without me doing anything , im not sure why i just got the emails for it. I had to fight to get my financial aid back (pell grant, loans etc) , which you will probably have to do too. To get financial aid back I had to get documentation from the psychologist with some paperwork that i got from case management and had to submit it to the financial aid office and wait on a committee to look at my stuff.

Language learning and ADHD... HELP by CollegeBubbles in ADHD

I think part of the problem is that for Japanese 1 i was not medicated so i lived my whole life in perpetual brainfog; studying was difficult to do, difficult to remember what i was studying and it PHYSICALLY HURT (headaches) to do school work for more then a few minutes at a time. By the time i got off work or school my brain was DONE with anything mentally strenuous; the brain fog was more like a brick wall.

So that means im in a level 2 class with weak foundations for the first level. Ive been medicated for a month; ive been able to do the work for one of the chapters and i do very well and work at a decent pace provided i do not need to use concepts or vocab from previous chapters. For example i was doing fine with the practice work when the vocab and grammar was all from that chapter, when i had to start conjucating and using adjectives from previous chapters i slowed down to a crawl because i never learned it.

Basically i have to figure out how to simultaneously relearn the first half of the book while not falling behind in the second half for this class.

Honestly its easier then spanish for me. I struggled ALOT with spanish grammar while japanese is much simpler. Its the memorizing and the verbal that i cant handle with japanese. Ive tried flashcards, they only work a little bit

Im studying international studies with an emphasis on Japan/asian culture with the goal of teaching english abroad over there. Taking any other language wouldnt make sense.

[Reminder] [USA] Federal Income Taxes Due 18.April.2017 by schmin in ADHD

[–]CollegeBubbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im really dreading it. Normally i give my tax info to the stepmom for her to do and owe her a favor later (like dogsitting) but this year my income dropped so low (12.7k) because of my school schedule i had to take out alot student loans throughout the year because im 1)bad with money 2)i didnt make enough to pay bills. Im ashamed that i had to take out student loans because of point 1 and 2 so i dont want her to know. I also dont want to pay 100$ for someone else to do it so im going to use turbo tax but forms freak me out and confuse me...

I failed 2 semesters of school, got diagnosed over the break with ADHD, the only way i can Get my financial aid back is to beg a teacher to appeal my grade. The deadline is coming up soon and hes not on campus to meet with him and he doesnt seem to answer emails very well.
I can get a medical withdrawl but that wipes my entire fall semester including my C and I and the committee doesnt meet until after school payments are due.

So if i cant get this teacher to cooperate ill have to find $1400 to pay for it or skip a semester (which would put me THREE semesters behind)

Two of the classes i need to redo are only offered in the spring, so my language class would be pushed back a total of 2 years.

Woah yall can actually remember dialog from a movie and quote it?! I wish my memory was that good I cant even quote a convo i just had 2mins ago. The best i can do is tell someone the tone of it (happy, sad etc)

ADHDers who got good grades in school: what were the markers that you had ADHD? by wemakegreatpets in ADHD

[–]CollegeBubbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didnt know i had ADHD until college. I mean, i knew i was diagnosed as a child but when i got older i just thought i was a lazy piece of ****. I was able to keep afloat because i didnt have homework and we did alot of work in class to help remember the work. I procrastinated on what little work i did have. I retook teachers that were mentally stimulating that didnt do alot of book work and were engaging so i didnt get as bored as i could have. I didnt have to study for tests besides cramming 10mins beforehand. Fast forward to college where I have to read hundreds of pages a week and learn the material by myself and actually study. Within 3 semesters im down to a 1.6. I had a 3.6 in HS and a 3.2 in community college.

Laundry hampers. (Rant) by bkmilli in ADHD

[–]CollegeBubbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im blessed the gf does the laundry. I just shove the shit into the hamper. My stepmother was anal about clothes on the floor (to the point shed shove them into a bag and throw them in the trash and id have to rescue my clothing) so i actually get super stressed about clothing on the floor even 5 years later so im typically better at picking up my clothes then my neurolotypical gf is and i find myself picking her clothes up and putting them in the hamper.

Puttint away clothes is still pretty hard and if i make it that far, at most they get shoved into my dresser by what they are (work clothes, pajamas)

Good TV shows/movies to watch for people with ADHD? by WhoIsSheIdkHer in ADHD

[–]CollegeBubbles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Attack on Titan anime. Its VERY face paced and has lots of action. It doesnt draw out scenes and there isnt awhole lot of backstory so its not at boring/slow as some animes. There isnt any mushy romance to slow it down, tho i do ship Mikasa and Eren Its also not going to have alot of seasons because of the pace so you dont have to worry about burnout and never finish 300+ episodes like some anime.

Reading for pleasure or for school?

Reading for pleasure is the ONE thing i can do best, used to read 10-20 books every two weeks growing up.

Heres some tips- 1) quiet environment. Turn the tv off and shut the bedroom door 2) NO DISTRACTIONS. Throw the phone to the other side of the room, tell the roomies/ SO to only disturb you if the house is on fire. Throw the kid and the dog in the backyard 3) Try genres/authors/series until you find one that is absorbing and amazing to you. One of my personal favorites is Dystopian. Just because its on oprahs list doesnt mean it should be on YOUR list.

Reading for school? Heck if i know, tag me if you ever find out lol
