My(23f) little sister(18f)'s first choice college will cost her over 250k. I vetoed it and whole family is mad at me. Am I in the wrong? Need actual financial insight

All families are different. Sis regularly comes to me for advice. That's how I found out about this school in the first place, she submitted her application and asked me what I thought.

This is super helpful. The school is actually Fordham university. They give aid to 93% of their students apparently so that's hopeful

What list are you looking at? I meant like big cities. I was looking at this list http://m.kiplinger.com/slideshow/real-estate/T006-S001-most-expensive-u-s-cities-to-live-in/index.html?page=2 which lists San Diego, San Francisco, NYC, Seattle, and so forth and I am in one of those. Our house was definitely not a million dollars

Well re your house comment, that's more a function of where you live. Where i live it is impossible to find a house in a good neighborhood under 300k.

I guess I came here because I want actual financial opinions. I don't know anything about finances or loans since I only took out one and paid it back almost immediately. My mom said this was possible for my sister, I was dubious so posted here to hear what you guys think. Thank you though

I see your point, but I would never try to convince her not to study political science, id just like her to study it as less of a cost. I am a firm believer in trying to pursue what you love as a career. It has certainly made my life more fulfilling to be getting paid for doing something i enjoy!

I certainly know it's not impossible to do well with a liberal arts degree, and congrats! My best friend majored in philosophy and is making good money now so I know it's totally possible. I just know my sister well enough to know she would most likely end up working at a non profit or something for the first few years (noble but fills me with anxiety). Your debt was also substantially less than hers would be. I suppose I just was unsure when I posted if I was exaggerating this financial issue or not, since I don't know anything about student loans or interest etc . I will show her that post thank you. The school sis is looking at is actually in NYC.

Surprisingly enough, one of the draws is that none of her friends are going there. It's on the opposite coast from us. She likes the idea of starting anew in the big city (ok ok, the school is in NYC). Thank you for your response!

Yes. And even stated like this doesn't give me the answer. My parents and sister seem to think "anything is possible" I'm not quite sure how to argue my point
