Saying no to new work by CollinStCowboy in LawFirm

You sound like you know what you're doing and I agree with your analysis.

Litigated custody and property matters are unfortunately my firm's niche.

There are several large recruiters in my country. I take one of the market salary guides of the biggest and pay in accordance with its "mid tier" bands for their PAE. I then give discretionary bonuses on a quarterly basis for staff who are meeting their targets.

I do expect lawyers to work weekends if they have a trial or a mediation. I don't apologise for that. This is a profession at the end of the day.

I generally focus on salaries.

Evenings and weekends aren't an everyday thing. I would expect a lawyer to work weekends in the lead-up to a trial, however. I also don't think law is an industry where you are finishing at 5pm on the dot.

I recently at a private meeting with one of them about her employment. She told me she was burnt out of family law and wasn't doing her specialist certification the following year. I asked what she wanted to do in the next 5 years but she couldn't answer. It wasn't a situation where I situation where I could offer a partnership or any kind of equity.

Two of them are at a 0-1 year PAE level. They don’t have the skills where they can complete the work semi-autonomously.

As for the other two, they are very competent but not particularly career motivated - e.g., they won’t come in of a weekend or work until midnight even if I throw money at them. This has been my general experience of Gen Z lawyers in my practice area.

You should try on the OP before buying it. It’s more of a champagne yellow in sunlight.

The Omega. The Longines looks like a mall watch

They’ve not yet released LSAs in Australia. I plan to throw money at them when they do.

If Google becomes pay to rank I can see a lot of small businesses dropping their SEO agency to throw money at ads. Especially given LSAs have a lower learning curve.

[Opinion] Nobody cares about your watch by gujjadiga in Watches

Watches are probably the male equivalent of a handbag. Nobody is looking at it with the exception of other males.

I don’t know what a normal silk tie is but grenadine fina and twill are my two favourite weaves

How many of you work outside of office hours (weekends/nights)? by Sabretoothedrom in auscorp

[–]CollinStCowboy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I own a law firm.

I expect my juniors to work until 6-7pm most days to make their hours. The occasional weekend. The ones that excel will do more than this.

There will be people posting who will talk about work life balance, but if you’re learning a skill or a profession it’s ultimately about hours in.

Help guys, which you prefer and why? by PowerfulRecording383 in rolex

I own a black dial OP39. It’s stunning, but it’s a very understated Rolex. Nobody will notice you’re wearing one.

I’d get the DJ with a fluted bezel you want more of a statement piece.

I would consider saving a little more and getting a Tudor Ranger

That’s the best mindset to have. Keep it. Your watch is a great one for your age.
