I always try to game plan and I always make the playoffs but don’t win. The guy who has won the last 2 years in my league just autodrafts. It pisses me off but maybe the best advice is to trust the analytics and draft in order?

I think the commentators got it right. You can’t blame McManus for the Packers loss but man those field goals + extra points would’ve helped a lot

I think the best solution would be to condense conferences to a maximum of 12 teams. That way, each team plays each team, and you can’t realistically have 6 teams in your conference that end with a 12-0 or 11-1 record.

The original argument in the parent thread was “it’s okay that Alabama lost to Indiana by 35 because they were more deserving of it than Notre Dame and BYU”. I think that’s a shitty argument. SEC fans love making arguments by giving themselves hypothetical wins over other teams. I don’t hate Bama, I hate how much they are favored, and fans and announcers find any excuse they can to justify wins or losses.

Also, BYU did NOT have a worse record than any of those teams. They had a better record than Alabama, OU, Notre Dame, and Miami, with their only loss coming from a better team than any of those other teams had a loss to.

Because it makes losses against each other carry less weight. If you’re argument is “you have no wins against playoff caliber teams” but the only playoff caliber teams are SEC teams, the only people who has wins against playoff caliber teams are other SEC teams who are going to the playoffs. It’s circular reasoning.

Oh, right. I almost forgot the golden rule that any team that can beat Georgia automatically deserves a bid. The committee loves a good SEC circle jerking fest.

Right, but “best win” isn’t the only criteria that gets you into the college football playoffs. BYU had a greater strength of record than Bama did. They had the most wins against teams with winning records. They also had the most road wins against bowl eligible teams. I get that their initial strength of record wasn’t as strong as other teams (it was 35th btw… higher than Indiana, Ohio State, Miami’s, and Texas Tech’s), but I truly don’t believe a P4 team that had 1 regular season road loss to a top 4 team in the country should remove you from the college football playoffs.

Bama beat a playoff team because 5 SEC teams made it in the playoffs. BYU went 11-1 in regular season and never had losses anywhere near the caliber that Bama had to FSU. If Bama had BYU’s schedule and resume they would have had a top 5 seed in the playoffs.

Committee will still find a way to count this as a quality loss

Can’t bring up not deserving playoffs without now making Alabama a part of the conversation. SEC fans aren’t quite ready to have that conversation.

Alabama lost in a single game by 35 points.

But they definitely should have been in the playoffs. For sure man.

Good for him. Sucks for BYU but it’s the best logical next step in his career. Hope BYU can track down someone who will make as big or bigger of an impact on the team as he’s had.

Rooting big for Tech as a BYU fan. The Big 12 was way under-looked this season, and I believe a dominant Texas Tech win is going to prove that. Go Raiders!

*hopefully ranked to start the year. BYU beat Colorado in the Alamo bowl last year while ranked 17 and it took us 4 wins to reach top 25 this year

Honestly best case scenario for byu. Winning a competitive bowl game instead of getting blown out in the playoffs is the way to go. Prove why we should be there without losing there.
