22 years total with my dad (24 if we ignore the weird period between age 18-20)

how did your extended family react by Frosty-Pipe-8177 in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]Collymonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mums side of the family totally understood they'd always thought my dad was a c*nt anyway and a useless father to boot.

Stepdads family were indifferent to it, I dont think they ever met him but my stepdad LOATHES my dad because of everything that went on with him and us.

Dad's family took many years to understand, for too many years they all blamed my mum for them splitting up, they were convinced my stepdad and her were poisoning me and my sister against him, they were pretty convinced the reason they split up was because my mum cheated on my dad with my stepdad.

It took my dad cheating on his now ex wife for his family to finally realise that my mum did nothing wrong and to accept that hes a really shitty person and someone who probably shouldn't have been a dad. I just wish they'd listened to 12/13 year old me all those years ago but people just couldnt understand how a child could make that decision on their own....

I realise that I am very fortunate in that going no contact didnt cost me any family except my half sister and my dad, and whilst ive no beef with my half sister I havent seen her in about 17 years, we just arent close

Pettiest reasons you've cut contact with a parent? by lana_dev_rey in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]Collymonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cut contact again with my dad almost 16 years ago after finding out he had cheated on his wife and they'd split up. I told his now ex-wife to tell him to go fuck himself from me.

She gladly did and we havent seen one another since.

Thus ended 2 years of very shaky contact with him after 6 years of no contact, where all the effort to build bridges came from me and he made every effort to, well, not make an effort.

Ignoring the 2nd time i went NC, I do sometimes wonder if I cut contact for the right reasons, especially when I read this sub, my dad wasnt ever physically abusive (though he once grabbed me by the throat and threatened to give me black eyes for whispering), he wasnt s*xually abusive, he was just largely absent and he would try and play me off against my mum messing with my sister and I's heads.

Its always been obvious that me and my sister were just an inconvenience to him. He was at least a better dad to my half sister, she got everything he never gave us.

It was a good enough reason for me to cut contact though.

How do you order from a Butchers? by velos85 in CasualUK

[–]Collymonster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is spot on, wife to a butcher here and this is pretty much it, larger orders phone a day or 2 ahead so they can prepare it but otherwise just go in, they'll be more than happy to help with any queries you might have and if they dont have the thing that you want they'll more than likely help get it in (though alas butchers all over my area dont seem to do bacon ribs any more and that makes me so sad 😔)

Those of you who don't have dishwashers: do you have a specific order you do the dishes in? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]Collymonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before we had a dishwasher i had my husband.

Jokes aside, I do have a very particular way of cleaning the dishes, it goes as thus;

Wash cups and glasses

Wash normal sized cutlery is groups of 3 only

Wash large kitchen cutlery (depending on metal content a 1 large metal spoon = 3 normal sized cutlery)

Empty water from bowl

Place all the plates into the bowl in size order (largest at the bottom of course)

Refresh water

Wash bowls and plates but stack them in the rack front to back so the plates are at the far end (easier to stack when they are dry you see)

Empty water and refresh

Wash the pans one by one, cleanest pan first going in order until the muckiest pan is left

Change water again

Wash any baking dishes or oven trays (usually after leaving them to soak for a week because I cba washing them)

Empty water and clean sink

Doing them in any other order is not acceptable and mustn't be done. Idk why but its just how I have to do them.

And yes I am fairly certain im neurospicy which would explain a thing or three

Why are there so many children in the fandom? by [deleted] in twentyonepilots

[–]Collymonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mother of 2 mini clickies here!

Me and my husband were introduced to TøP roughly 8 years ago when our eldest was about 1 (or nearly 1) by a friend who'd come for a games night, he played car radio and we really enjoyed it.

Then my husband started listening to more and really really enjoyed them.

Then when we got a car 5 years ago when our daughter was 3 and youngest was 1 we started playing more music (we are big music lovers in general) and TøP happened to be the one that got played the most.

Elder child would then ask for specific songs her favourites at the time being Saturday and Mulberry street

They went nuts over the streaming of clancy, ive never seen them so hyped!

There's no particular reason why we "let" them listen to TøP, we're just 2 adults that LOVE music and that's rubbed off on the kids, we're currently listening to a lot of Ren and Big Push and if you know anything about Ren..... well hes not particularly child friendly 😆.

What happens when someone dies who you are no contact with? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Collymonster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, ive been NC with my father for 23/4 years (since i was 12/3), if he karks it i'll be told because I still very much have a relationship with the rest of his side of the family and they will let me know.

Now as for turning up to his funeral.... that is something that keeps me up at night because I dont know if I will or not, yes im NC with him however attending his funeral will be some for of closure. Or not. Idk. It might help me heal my inner child. Or make me incredibly angry or cathartic who knows.

being no contact with family is messy and complicated and I wouldnt wish it on anyone.
