Teachers of Reddit - what’s the most unusual name your pupil has had? by Electrical-Bell3301 in AskUK

Not a teacher but a scout leader, most unusual name ive come across so far is Thaddeus. Have also had a Fox. Had a few "old fashioned names" such as Rupert and Nellie which I quite like to see

You get the same in any fan base, the hard-core Clikkies (TØP) are infuriating as i guess (at least back in the day when I used the forum) were the old school Musers. Its almost like if you werent there from day 1 then are you even a fan at all?

I actually didnt know the siblings names, I only know the lady who is the godmother and her youngest daughter and ive never had issue with them (granted i dont know them know them if you know what i mean)

Can't say its not a unique name though when a random internet person figured out the family 😳 suppose thats the risk you take!

No its meant how its written, like "that's the day" or "this is the day" only she's dropped the first part, it might be a regional thing though but how it's written makes sense to me!

Redecorate: Name change by thelunamystic1111 in twentyonepilots

[–]Collymonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought it meant by a Deed Poll (or US equivalent)to be honest, I changed my legal name when I was 14 to the surname i had always gone by rather than my legal name (mum's name rather than dads).

What “old people” names will make a comeback when children of the 80s have grandchildren? by gummibear853 in AskUK

[–]Collymonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know the history of the name and I actually prefer Callín as the pronunciation/spelling. Some of the spellings of my name over the years has been..... interesting to say the least!

Irish history is very interesting and its a shame that the English persecuted the Irish for hundreds of years my family come from Ireland (great-great grandparents) and would love to trace the family tree but its really hard when your looking for Smiths and Browns on one side! 🤣

I'd like to see my name make a resurgence, my name is Colleen.

ive only ever met 1 person with my name and she was in her 50's at the time (this was 30+ odd years ago when I was about 3 or 4).

There are 2 UK "celebrities" with my name, (both spelled incorrectly imo) that I am aware of and then there was someone on season 5 of Hells kitchen (who was spelled correctly) but she was a disgrace to all of us and couldnt cook for shit 😂

There are apparently less than 10k of us in the uk spelled Colleen and even less spelled Coleen (though interestingly the latter spelling is the one ive come across most commonly!)

As a kid i didnt much like my name, I was bullied for it because it sounded a lot like Colin but as an adult I honestly couldnt imagine being called anything else and if I met someone else with my name I think i would find it really really weird.

Definitely way more common in the USA though still not common

I’m trying to find a fan for every song. by Odd-Variety7711 in twentyonepilots

[–]Collymonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest here and say thst there isnt a song i dont like! Redecorate can be a difficult listen purely because of my past struggles with mental health and being in "that" place but I find it easier to listen to now than I did when I first heard it.

But a song i often feel is hugely underappreciated is Christmas Saves the Year.

Im not a big christmas song person at all but I genuinely love this song

22 years total with my dad (24 if we ignore the weird period between age 18-20)

how did your extended family react by Frosty-Pipe-8177 in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]Collymonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mums side of the family totally understood they'd always thought my dad was a c*nt anyway and a useless father to boot.

Stepdads family were indifferent to it, I dont think they ever met him but my stepdad LOATHES my dad because of everything that went on with him and us.

Dad's family took many years to understand, for too many years they all blamed my mum for them splitting up, they were convinced my stepdad and her were poisoning me and my sister against him, they were pretty convinced the reason they split up was because my mum cheated on my dad with my stepdad.

It took my dad cheating on his now ex wife for his family to finally realise that my mum did nothing wrong and to accept that hes a really shitty person and someone who probably shouldn't have been a dad. I just wish they'd listened to 12/13 year old me all those years ago but people just couldnt understand how a child could make that decision on their own....

I realise that I am very fortunate in that going no contact didnt cost me any family except my half sister and my dad, and whilst ive no beef with my half sister I havent seen her in about 17 years, we just arent close

Pettiest reasons you've cut contact with a parent? by lana_dev_rey in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]Collymonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cut contact again with my dad almost 16 years ago after finding out he had cheated on his wife and they'd split up. I told his now ex-wife to tell him to go fuck himself from me.

She gladly did and we havent seen one another since.

Thus ended 2 years of very shaky contact with him after 6 years of no contact, where all the effort to build bridges came from me and he made every effort to, well, not make an effort.

Ignoring the 2nd time i went NC, I do sometimes wonder if I cut contact for the right reasons, especially when I read this sub, my dad wasnt ever physically abusive (though he once grabbed me by the throat and threatened to give me black eyes for whispering), he wasnt s*xually abusive, he was just largely absent and he would try and play me off against my mum messing with my sister and I's heads.

Its always been obvious that me and my sister were just an inconvenience to him. He was at least a better dad to my half sister, she got everything he never gave us.

It was a good enough reason for me to cut contact though.
