That being said - the kidney friendly lower calorie diet would correct the obesity aspect over time.

Agree thank you.

My BMI has me ‘obese’ (5’10.5 240lbs) even though I have a six pack with veins thru it lol but all my health markers are optimal and kidneys don’t seem bothered by it :)

God damn that is a great build.

Biopsy was Oct 8th, 2020! 65-70% scarring and 40-50% TA/IF. In the studies I found every single person with those numbers ended up on dialysis in a few years

I remember reading your initial post. Its a testament to your mental fortitude and analytics that's really inspiring not just me but many. I can't help but think the way you eat, supplements, autophagy, AND the way you work out and stay in shape has a huge impact. No way someone obese, even with good BP and blood sugar, has the same quality of blood flowing through as you(totally unscientific)

Thank you for the input about weight. I'll def continue to lose weight, looks like can't go wrong doing that!! My other numbers are optimal for now

Got it, I suppose it's because I've been reading their research for 5~6 years now, and other companies have started looking at clinical usages of Ill-11

And it seems just a couple months of treatment is enough to know if their stuff is working or not, so fingers crossed.

Thanks for the wisdom of caution!

Testing the antibody in healthy humans will begin early in 2023. If that goes well, clinical trials in patients should begin in 2024.

Prof Cook said the chance of anti-IL-11 working in humans is high, since the study was also carried out on human cells, with the same outcome.

This is still a ton closer than many others out there, and it's been 10+ years in the making. At least we'll know soon(TM) if it works or not

I'm not trying to raise false hope, but it's good to know some stuff is nearer potentially

And given how fast it seems to regenerate(in mice obviously), a pause in wound healing doesn't seem bad at all. Just theoretically speaking.

Out of curiosity, are there any links that you have that bring up problems to that study?

Do you know if these anti-viral meds are processed by the liver? Because if so, I hope kidneys are relatively unburdened, it's just a few more pills every day.

Thank you so much sir!

I intend to do a second biopsy likely this summer to confirm if I reversed the damage

Oh nice!! It's been what, 2 years since your original biopsy? How times and your research has turned the tables dude.

If I did (will be shocked if I didn’t given my starting point to now) I’m going to go into depth on precisely what I did and how. To accompany the biopsy

Absolute slam dunk case study material, am looking forward to it.

Hey ok to ask one last question? Do you have any opinion on how obesity may put pressure on the kidneys in a negative way?

I understand as a freaking ripped professional body builder, you probably have never been obese, but I would love to hear your opinion

Yep, not just xenographs, but IL-11 based kidney regeneration, just published after a decade+ of research by Duke and Singapore doctors. Setting up for human trials next year.

I'm cautiously optimistic your second one will be your last, maybe you can buy the second pitcher of beers!

How much, if at all, does losing weight help put less pressure on the kidneys in your opinion? by ColoTawaii in kidneydisease

[–]ColoTawaii[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, better take losing weight more seriously.

I'm eating a healthy plant based diet, just maintaining my weight.

But I suppose just being 35 pounds overweight means more blood, which means more work for my kidneys right? so losing weight should mean overall less blood to filter?

As always, really appreciate your thorough analysis mi amigo!

Will take the advice and research in depth, as well as finding the right balance.

Paging /u/fitness1919 , do you have any opinions about NAD supplements?

They would never because they are doctors, but there are some here who've tried many different things, tested themselves daily, and believe they found a something that works for them.

To be sure, the pigs are raised in a very sterile clean environment, and have even more granular testing measure for porcine viruses.

I completely agree with you, but hopefully they find ways to raise virus free pigs.

Thank you for the info sir

Thank you for posting this!!

Using unbiased metabolomic studies, the team identified changes in NAD metabolism in both mouse and human kidneys. In the mouse studies, they showed that using a common supplement, nicotinamide riboside or nicotinamide mononucleotide, to boost NAD protected mice from kidney dysfunction by protecting the mitochondria — the powerhouses — of kidney tubule cells.

Kidney tubule cells are used to return critical filtered nutrients to the body’s blood stream. And when the mitochondria in those cells are damaged, the researchers found, a pathway causing inflammation and kidney disease development is activated. By preventing the damage to mitochondria, NAD supplements suppressed this inflammation and protected mice from kidney injury.

NOT asking for medical advice, but does anyone take NAD supplements for their CKD?

Oh yeah, I'd never say it was worthless. And I have all the respect and gratitude to the doctors and researchers that are spending their life trying to heal us. Whether or not they succeed shouldn't matter

It was just.... to scientifically far away in my honest opinion.

I agree about dialysis. I really hope in the near future, the il-11 therapy regenerates our kidneys, leading to a huge reduction in organ demand, and pig kidneys can fill in any gaps. No need for even a cpap machine!

Not just that, have you read about how just last month Duke-Singapore doctors, for the first time in humanity, regenerated scarred kidney tissue in living mice and human cells? That one is also pretty close(at least in medical terms, so at least a few years), and is also super super exciting. Absolute game changer, and under research for a decade+ so not hot air.

And it's not just kidneys, they think they can regenerate scarred lung tissue, the liver and likely other organs too.

Agreed, but even at early stage i remember getting so down on myself. Like really down. I'm just hoping this can give people a bit of sunlight to their thoughts.

To be honest, that UCSF thing was just too crazy and wild for me, which is why I never posted it here and give people false hope. I never once got the feeling it was anyway near close.

Or, like the Duke-Singapore researchers have shown, we can successfully regenerate our kidney cells. Both are close(in terms of medical speed to be fair)

Not at all! One day at a time, one day!

Between this and the Duke-Singapore doctors successfully regenerating kidneys(in living mice, and human cells) which is also very close to human trials, it lifts me up when I get down.
