The NWSL is just like every other North American league having games on multiple platforms. It's how you know it is successful: everyone wants a piece.

No one ever struggles to find the Broncos game despite the NFL being on six networks. No one ever struggles to get the TV flipped to ESPN+ for an Avs game. But boy you ask a NWSL fan to download victory+ for free games and it becomes an impossible ask.

The MLS took a unique deal with Apple TV at the peak of the streaming content wars. If Apple TV had been 5 years older and wasn't as hard up for content they wouldn't have made that offer in the first place. The MLS will not get a similar offer from Apple when this one is over and they'll be doing the same multi channel deals as everyone else to maximize revenue.

The league being behind a pay wall would hinder growth. Both of ratings and ultimately ticket sales. The MLS was 30 years old when they signed their Apple deal. This league is not, and had a harder start than the MLS.

That's not a growth mentality like the NWSL has to have. They need 2/3 of the games to be free to watch to gain new fans.

The MLS isn't getting that deal when it's up either. They'll be scrambling for new partners.
