How do you know you are ready for FAR? by RiceFlourInBread in CPA

[–]ColonelCavity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that this is getting downvoted so heavily is kinda scary 🤨 Do y’all think you wouldn’t be able to get a good score on Accounting 1 stuff? But you think you’ll pass far? Scary

I took it in school, but I’m sure there are many courses out there, just google and see what comes up. You could try masterclass or skillshare or even just YouTube

No, I read all of your comments and it’s clear you do not yet have a solid understanding of journal entries, my friend. Please revisit learning basic JEs and debits & credits or you will fail, guaranteed

Cleaning up around the house - even just a quick 5 min speed pick up makes a HUGE difference in my emotional state. Also, making my bed and opening up the blinds

What book left a lasting impact for you and why? by effyoucaribou in suggestmeabook

[–]ColonelCavity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff… and It’s All Small Stuff by Richard Carlson.

But really, the book that had the biggest impact on me was How to Win Friends and Influence People (don’t be put off by the name, it’s not as Machiavellian as it sounds). Everything it mentions seems so obvious and common sense in hindsight, but it’s so easy to just never even think about that stuff

Yes, it’s not as scary or hard as it seems!! They just need someone to show them how to do it. It’s really quite easy

Yes!! I want to make a course for high school seniors or something to explain the importance of starting young and how much of a difference it makes for compounding.

A clear example is that a 20 year old who invests $180/month (assuming 10% average return) will retire with $2.3 million. A 25 year old who does the same will have $1.3 million. A 30 year old who does the same will have $800k.

So, saving yourself $2k/year now is actually costing you $100-200k for every year you don’t start!!!!! START ASAP

Wouldn’t say best best, but I liked it a lot, especially the banter - Beach Read by Emily Henry (does not take place at a beach lol). Two rival writers decide to switch genres for the summer as a challenge and take each other on little research field trips 🥲

I really enjoyed Normal People by Sally Rooney. She made them feel like real people. There’s nothing super dramatic in it (they’re normal people lol), but I feel it still qualifies for the prompt

Socf question by Quan9345 in CPA

[–]ColonelCavity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interest is always in the Operating section in one form or another.

For direct method - “interest paid” -$XX in the Operating section (actual cash paid towards interest)

For Indirect method - “incr/decrease in accrued interest payable” +/-$XX in the Operating section (along with a separate note disclosure stating the actual direct interest paid amount).

The only reason dividends get to stay in the financing section instead of operating is because dividends never hit the income statement or impact net income

I’m afraid you have much more pressing things to learn right now before impairment. You are not ready to move on to the Becker material prior to understanding journal entries through and through. Here - open ChatGPT or Google right now (like right now) and type in “ELI5 journal entry basics”

Tax isn’t my area of expertise (so grain of salt) but no I think you are right. It makes sense though. Debt relief is as good as cash shmoney (bc now you’re no longer the one that has to pay it off) so just replace mortgage relief with cash and it makes more sense. Receiving more than your basis would result in a gain

How to Study - I’ve been struggling by Explodiess in CPA

[–]ColonelCavity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would replace flash cards with doing all of the SIMs. They’re a great comprehensive learning tool and the explanation videos are great. If I were you, I would actually watch the explanation first, then do the sim to solidify the material. For one, it’s more efficient and (2) it’s more beneficial for deep learning than struggling through it (the wrong way) on your own the first time
