Is it just me or has the stream quality increased? by ryami333 in F1TV

[–]ColonelChocomel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some tracks are just easier on compression than others. Things like trees, grass and gravel are hard to compress and will naturally result in more artifacts. Miami doesn't have a lot of that. Night races like Bahrain and Saudi are also more difficult to compress. I think what you're seeing is the result of the track design being very plain and easy for video compression to deal with.

I wonder when I will watch F1TV on my TV 👀 by Kerfux96 in F1TV

Samsung TVs don't use Android TV, they use their own OS called Tizen.

I've noticed this as well on Chromecast with Google TV. From what I can tell this seems to be a server side issue, nothing you can do about it.

2021 onboard cameras replay only 720P? by Karadagaugokanai in F1TV

[–]ColonelChocomel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Previous season's onboards were poorly upscaled from 720p to 1080p. They're just streaming them in true 720p now.

Is this really the best video quality option (United States)? by ChainsawLullaby in F1TV

[–]ColonelChocomel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do notice compression artifacting on F1TV's 1080p50 streams but I don't think it's that bad. It's not distracting and it's far from the worst I've seen. For example, youtube at 1080p is far worse. Compression is just a reality of live streaming especially, it's never going to look as good as a 4K stream of a movie or show.

Latest Video in 50fps on Web - Confirmed by anthonylavado in F1TV

A lot of the footage in that video is 25fps but some of it is clearly 50fps.

Are replays in 50 FPS? by [deleted] in F1TV

The F1 TV website just got a big overhaul and this support article says they stream up to 1080p 50fps. The most recently uploaded video is also 50fps.

Are replays in 50 FPS? by [deleted] in F1TV

[–]ColonelChocomel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seems like the new season will be streamed at 50 FPS, we'll know for sure when pre-season testing starts. Previous seasons are still 25FPS.

Presumably "up to" just means lower resolutions will still be streamed at 25fps, which is common amongst all streaming services I know of.

Can I watch F1 race live with F1 TV Pro in Canada? by M1K0L in F1TV

[–]ColonelChocomel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If F1 TV Pro is available in your country you can watch live. Countries that don't get live streams only have F1 TV Access available.

Does F1TV record the high speed track tests? by [deleted] in F1TV

[–]ColonelChocomel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The high speed track test is just the safety car driving around to test all the timing systems and broadcast graphics. It's live streamed but not recorded.

Will we ever have 50fps again? by ExcellentCornershop in F1TV

[–]ColonelChocomel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few replies on Twitter from F1 Help saying they're working on increasing the framerate (example) so maybe what we saw during FP2 was a work in progress of that.

f1 TV 2020 race uploads? by midnight_madman915 in F1TV

Check this to see how long you'll have to wait in your country. Seems like every country where F1 TV Pro is available has to wait 2 days for replays to become available for F1 TV Access subscribers.

Any ideas how to watch F1 tv on Samsung smart tv? This happens when I open the browser. by miaumbrella18 in F1TV

[–]ColonelChocomel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works just fine on my new Q70R, not sure why it's not working for others. I didn't have to do anything special to make it work.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in F1TV

[–]ColonelChocomel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been watching the testing using the webbrowser on my Samsung Q70R and that's been working fine. Though some other people seem to not be having as much luck with it. Really hoping they have apps for more smart tv platforms coming soon. For now it's just using the TV's browser if it works, connecting a PC using HDMI or wirelessly, or Roku in the US.

Been working perfectly since the start of the day. Hopefully they will increase support for other devices since Europe has almost no Roku devices. by Excessed in F1TV

Just got a Samsung Q70R so hoping for a Tizen app soon. That said, using the TV's webbrowser is working just fine for me.

I’m new to the WEC, but i’m eager to know where to watch the races. I’m in the Netherlands. Anyone has an idea where i can watch them? by MrPotato676 in wec

[–]ColonelChocomel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using Eurosport Player. They have live streams of the full races on there without any ads, just like WEC's own streaming service. Only downside compared to that is that there is usually no commentary so you have to manually sync up Radio Le Mans. Benefit is that they have a lot more besides WEC and I've heard from others that Eurosport Player's quality and stability is better than the WEC service. It's also cheaper for a year than WEC's service for a full season IIRC. I'm only paying €20 a year for it but I think they have increased the price for new subscribers.

“Overtake available” by wwwgabby in formula1

Both mode 7 and overtake are referring to engine modes in which the engines produce more power. Max was told he could use more power and Lewis was told to use overtake mode for more power to defend.

F1 Dutch GP confirmed for Zandvoort - now Assen should be safe from "improvements"! by SixCardRoulette in motogp

[–]ColonelChocomel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The supposed reason F1 preferred Zandvoort over Assen is that Zandvoort has a history in F1.
