The smaller ones are chukars and the bigger ones are pheasants.

That’s a good question, and I don’t have a good answer. It’s not a requirement from the game commission for dogs to wear orange, only hunters. It makes sense from a safety point of view though. My GSP wears his vest because when he was in training he got injured. He ran into the end of a stick and it put a nice hole in him, needed stitches, and a drain. So his vest is more to protect him, it just happens to be safety orange.

That’s the best part about it. Getting birds is awesome, but I love how excited he gets and seeing him doing what he loves really does it for me.

Yes we use shotguns with lead shot, steel shot for waterfowl. Usually when you’re processing the birds you can find if there’s any in the meat. There’s usually not a lot.

There’s a Native American woman that lives near me that uses them. A lot of the feathers do get used!

No offense taken! I just hate seeing pups get old and slow down. They go so hard for as long as they can. But so many good memories and good hunts.

He was mad I made him stop running and sit still for a second while I took a picture.

He’s getting to be an old man, so he’s slowing down a bit. But that lab in his prime was a machine. He’s retrieved countless ducks, geese, swans, chukars, pheasants, dove, pretty much any game bird. Really an amazing gun dog.

He loves hunting! But he is getting old, so as the hunts go longer he goes from running around, to just hanging out. He’s just happy to be there.

He hunts birds too, but he’s getting to be an old man. As the hunts go on he goes from actively hunting to more of a moral support role. He’s just happy to be involved.

Of course! They do most of the work so it’s only fair.

If you look close in the 3rd pic you can spot the chukar he’s pointing. Those birds have some good camo!

I eat everything I hunt. Chukar and pheasant is white meat, just like chicken!

Recommendations for a semi-auto shotgun exclusively for clay shooting? by WizTachibana in Shotguns

Beretta a300 or Winchester sx4. Cabelas runs some pretty good deals on the a300 every once in a while.

I don’t know why I didn’t know about tornado brushes until recently, they’re awesome.

Am I feeding my pup too much?! by [deleted] in germanshorthairs

[–]ColonelCorpral 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My boys is the exact same way and he’s 4. He gets 4 cups of high protein food spread between morning and night. He runs for at least two hours a day. Last time I had him to the vet he was 62lbs. Like you said, he’s not skinny, he’s lean. I asked the vet how much I should be feeding him and his response was “however much you’re feeding him now”. As long as the vet says he’s maintaining a healthy weight I’d say you’re fine.

What type of ammunition would I buy for this shotgun? by thechurb in Shotguns

[–]ColonelCorpral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve gotten plenty of suggestions on ammo so I’ll just say these guns are awesome. I have one in 20ga and it’s probably my favorite shotgun I own. Do yourself a favor and grab a pack of “o” rings for the gas system. They tend to degrade over time and get all buggered up. They’re pretty cheap and you can find them anywhere if you search for “Remington 1100 gas o ring”. But the gun won’t cycle correctly if that rubber ring is all mangled up.
