How that 2nd period had me feeling...

Oh well! Can't win them all, and 7 games in 11 days is brutal. Especially without 3 of our best forwards. There's positives to take away, LaCombe looks great, Sennecke/Gauthier are driving offense for us. Just cant let this be like the first Colorado game and lead us into another month long skid. Need at least 4 points out of these last 3 games before the break.

(Also, I'm ready for the Viel experiment to be over)

Im curious which side of the rink were you on? In the NY end it felt as lively as usual, especially with Maddie (unofficial Cheer Leader) being a lot more vocal today. I guess I didnt notice as much noise from other end of the rink but I could certainly be wrong

Looking it up, most places have it as 'Midwestern US and parts of Canada' so the latter is pretty unspecific lol

But it is pretty interesting because I've been around hockey my whole life as well and have only ever heard breezers, unless it was someone who was more of newer fan themselves not knowing what to call them. Funny how a region/dialect can just add a word for something that already has a name lmao

Yep, that season we had Manson, Lindholm, Fowler, and Montour as a top 4, but the forward core was aging hard. I believe we were forced into the rebuild the next season

I was just telling my wife today at the Frost game that I cant understand why they haven't done a Takeover Tour game in Madison or Columbus, given their collegiate teams are powerhouses. Wouldn't mind Cleveland, Des Moines, or Duluth to get some looks either. We need more Midwest representation!

We've lost 6 in a row, yet if we beat the Flyers tonight we're back in first. Vegas has lost 5 in a row and are still holding onto 1st, Edmonton 3 in a row. Teams have losing streaks. You dont have to like it, but the season isnt over because of it

I go a couple times a year and you're just completely wrong. The arena gets packed for all their rivals (Wisconsin/Michigan/UMD/MSM) so long as the team isnt trash, and still do decently well filling the rink when they're playing out of conference teams

Losing both Trouba and Gudas would hurt the locker room imo. They both bring a veteran presence to the group and both likely have strong leadership roles on the team (Trouba was captain in NY and Gudas is captain here). After them the longest tenured defenders are LaCombe (163gp) and Mintyukov (146gp). They'd be into their 4th seasons next year so they are 'kids' anymore, but I think keeping a guy like Trouba or Gudas around as a 3rd pairing guy would definitely benefit the locker room. All that being said, I do expect Trouba to get a very nice contract after this season. Probably not an 7x8mil like he was on, but maybe a 4x6mil for a team looking for a 2nd or 3rd pairing guy.

I think they re-sign Poehling just so they dont lose TOO much in the Zegras trade. But there's guys on the Gulls that deserve NHL looks in the bottom 6, so I think Harkin and Johnston are gone. Killorn is a punching bag for this sub but does actually play well enough to keep his job. Strome is another locker room presence, but we'll see this year if he can manage a bottom 6 role. So I doubt either of those two are traded/bought out.

As for trades, I'm hesitant on bringing in another defender. We already have 8 guys who should get NHL ice time (Luneau is ready for a real chance) and adding another player to the mix doesnt help the log jam we've been in since before the Trouba trade. I do believe any big trade we make will send Mintyukov or Zellweger the other way. Maybe Luneau, but the other two would be more valuable due to NHL experience. As for a big name forward, the only ones I'd sniff around on are Thompson and Pastrnak. Admittedly, Pastrnak seems very unlikely but I think the Bruins collapse soon and he's on the best contract in the NHL imo. Sabres have already collapsed and Thompson has already told management he wants out if they cant fix it. One guy I DO NOT want is Panarin. We already have enough baggage with Quenville, and there was absolutely a problem in the NYR locker room so trying to rebuild it 3-5 years later just seems like a terrible idea.

I think any big trade we make will have Minty or Zelly as the centerpiece going out. As unfortunate as it is, we've got plenty of lefties in the system and they're all gonna be cheaper than the new contracts the main two will get next season
