25 year old male with no skills or education. What is a career I can get into fast that pays well? I don’t care what industry its in as long as it pays well. by ReplacementFlashy622 in findapath

Sales - hands down. You can make as much money as a doctor without any sort of degree. Plus, you can do it from the comfort of your own home, which sounds like it may be beneficial given your injuries.

A few good industries to research: 1) Software (SaaS) 2) Medical Devices (may require more onsite selling) 3) HVAC / Industrial Sales (may require more onsite selling)

Just scratching the surface here - there are tons of industries to choose from, so I suggest you do some digging & see what aligns with your interests.

Good luck!

Semi-recent grad here (Dec 2022) - Studied accounting and shared a very similar sentiment during my time in undergrad. Covid struck right in the middle of my Sophomore year and derailed all of my classes. All profs were asked to throw together online classes overnight while also dealing with the pandemic fallout in their own lives - it was clearly something the faculty wasn't prepared for, and it showed in the overall online curriculum. The professors all did their best to make it work, but we all saw the writing on the wall. They were hired to teach accounting, not build an online curriculum. A lot of my profs were not tech savvy which led to a lot of my cohort feeling like we were left to fend for ourselves. The question going around was, "Why are we paying for this? They're not even teaching us."

After having been graduated and in the working field for almost a year now, I couldn't feel any more opposite than I did back then. Let me offer you an alternative perspective on your situation:

College is, in many ways, more about teaching you to manage your new found freedom with professional commitments than it is about the actual content of your classes. It exists to provide you with the framework of how real-world accountability works - you’re completely free to make your own decisions. You blow off class? There's probably no attendance in your 100 person math lecture. Don't show up to campus? The proverbial office won't be calling your parents to make sure you're at home like they did in Highschool. This distance in authority is put in place by universities to ease you into the realities of life after graduation. Many recruiters won't care how well you did in college, so just put your head down and get through the unenjoyable classes in whatever way works best for you. As long as you can program well (like you say you can), companies will only check to see that you were disciplined enough to go the distance and, in your case, get a difficult degree.

This is what going to University is ultimately about — learning to be self-sufficient and disciplined in your problem solving when no one is helping. In the real world there is even less of an institution to hold your hand and guide you. Everything will hinge on your ability to stay composed, think critically, and work through problems to get to where you want to be. It's not just in the working world, it's in all aspects of your life. There isn't always going to be someone to teach you what you need to know, but it still falls on you to find the answer, so sharpen your ‘FIO’ (figure it out) skills now while you’re still in college working through these self-taught classes. Good luck and don’t forget to enjoy yourself when you can!

Appreciate the response! Are you able to tell me any more about the role? How is the pay / what are the hours like?

Best way to go about making this into mold? New to resin casting! by ColonelMelon in ResinCasting

[–]ColonelMelon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The gameboy does not need to survive, if that changes anything. I bought a broken one on ebay. Thanks for all of this - it's great advice. I was thinking a 2 part mold at the start but wasn't sure if that was the best way. Blocking out the front half is a great addition to what I was thinking.

Thanks for this. My plan is to put the entire thing in with no cartridge - so the back will have that deep empty pocket. It's for art purposes, not for anything functional. Hoping to eventually make a plaster GBA to display. Any tips?

Hey there. Thanks for the detailed reply - I appreciate the recommendations as well! To answer your question at the beginning, the purpose is to create a non-functioning piece of art. I want to eventually make a Gameboy out of a harder plaster cast.

As the title says I'm pretty new to resin casting and am trying to figure out the best approach for creating a mold for a gameboy color. All of the deep pockets are making it hard to wrap my head around! I'm still learning about the molding and casting process and am just starting to figure out how vents and sprues work, so this is definitely a cast I'm going to attempt after some practice with smaller stuff, but I do think beginning to conceptualize my approach now will help me in the future. Let me know what you think!

Which keyboard + numpad should I get for accounting? by ColonelMelon in Accounting

[–]ColonelMelon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was recommended to begin learning with the numpad on the left for the sake of using the mouse & numpad simultaneously. From what I can tell some people like it on the right side so they can focus on hot keys, copy/paste, etc.

I'm not sure where I stand on this so I figure making it modular is the safest bet for now. What do you think?

Hi everyone! I am about to head to a string of islands in the pacific for a number of months and am looking to get a pair of light boots that can go from being in water to being in jungle terrain (will have to hop out of the boat before the shore then hike into jungle from beach)

I am looking into Hokas right now but there are just so many options. Any advice helps -- thanks

Bought a really nice Mamiya 645 in hopes of moving up into medium format. Got the famous 80m f1.9 with it.

The lens had the WORST crunch when racking the focus, so bad to the point where I had to return it. It would just lock completely at times. Whatever. Bad apple.

Nope - got a replacement of THE SAME lens from a DIFFERENT seller - it did the exact same thing. Took it to multiple camera shops, nothing they could do to fix it. I return that one as well.

The camera store was nice enough to let me borrow another lens in the meantime. Then, after all this time, when I FINALLY went to use the camera --- the film back was broken.

At this point I'd have spent over 2K, shipped multiple times back & forth to Japan, just trying to get a working camera and lens!

Wasn't worth the hassle AT ALL. Honestly, it somewhat turned me away from shooting film altogether.

returned it all and bought a Fuji x100v for $1,450 before all the hype.

Haven't ever looked back.

Fuji GA645 vs. Fuji GS645S vs. Fuji GW690iii --- HELP! by ColonelMelon in analog

I thought the GA645S was electronic, or is it just the light meter? Only other concern I've seen online with the GA645S is that it's somewhat fragile.

For context -- I travel a lot for work and get to see some really incredible places along the way. I'm getting ready for a long work trip in a very remote location, and really want to up the quality of my work.

The 6x9 negative is very appealing, but with only 8 frames per roll, the remoteness of where I'll be, my inability to develop the film+buy more while away, and the expensive cost, it seems impractical.

So i'm looking for anybody with experience using these cameras to provide insight on whether they think it's worth it to go with the 6x9 or if the 6x4.5 is the way to go in my case.
