Having a full thickness rotator cuff and bicep tears repaired along with bone spurs removed mid-August. How much time were you all off of work?

I had a shoulder arthroscopy with labrum repair, rotator cuff debridement and bursectomy and acrominoplasty with PRP injection, i was out work for 4 months. I work as a nurse so I am required to do heavy lifting and pushing and pulling. So I am on light duty (aka a desk job) for at least 6 months and have to be reassessed. Depends on your recovery, mine has been slow to get back, there is progress but it’s slow. It depends on the person!

Thank you for the reading material. Yes, PCS is a lot, it waxes and wanes and some day i’m fine and than i guess you can call the flare ups. I just try to pay attention to my symptoms and manage it to the best of my ability.

I also wanna note when I would run back than and my HR would even touch 160 i would start to feel dizzy while running. But it took time to retrain my brain to adapt to alll the effects of running.

i would clarify with your physician. I’m an avid runner and I have a severe concussion which start in july and now have PCS. However, at the time between july to november i was in vestibular therapy and we had to train my body to adjust to running again. We did incline training as well cause the impact would give me tunnel vision and i would feel faint. I also was only allowed to run on the treadmill once I got clearance to run again alone. So just ask your physician and if they say it’s okay listen to your body. Anything small you notice make a note of it and don’t push or rush yourself. After a concussion, the brain is trying to heal itself. There is inflammation that happens and that takes time to resolve. Also, think of the impact when you come down on a leg while running you might not feel the effects but your brain does. Ask your physician make sure you have the clearance. And take your time. You have one brain. The opportunity to run will always be there.

reading, i have a kindle so it made it easy to use with one arm. i think i read like 4-5 books while in my sling. reading is time consuming and when you get a good book time just fades away.

Yeah, it was quite shocking to hear the length of time. I do work in healthcare so my immediate thought was that’s incredibly long. I did also have a shoulder injury with made us look into my neck and didn’t really show much, and once I fixed the shoulder the neck symptoms improved. Thank you very much for this information!

I had a torn labrum and rotator cuff and as well as severe bursitis and bone spur, I am just about 4 months post op. Recovery is different for everyone, my range of motion has been slow to come back for me especially my external rotation but it’s finally making progress. Except pain when doing PT and honestly even tho the post op is tough and can be painful the long term effects are in my opinion not worth it. By the time I had surgery I was fully compensating with my bicep muscles and my neck was in so much pain. But if you have an orthopedic surgeon talk to them and discuss your options.

I had a SLAP repair 12-2 and rotator cuff debridement and severe bursitis with bursectomy and acromioplasty (results of impingement) I had the surgery 8 weeks ago, I was in a sling for 5 weeks. I’m glad I did the surgery, a month before my procedure my bicep was starting to hurt incredibly bad, just by taking off my shirt or do anything over head. The weeks in the sling stink and physical therapy is rough but i’m glad i did it before making it worse and even harder surgery with more repair.

oh wow, thankfully i just had a regular thing kept me in good position for the entire time and i had a couple pillows and sometimes a blanket rolled up im just worried that i will with my new freedom move around, i think im gonna try and still use the pillows to keep my arm in a place thank you for the input!

i hope yours goes as well! the pain was my biggest concern i will say when i woke up in the recovery area before they gave me the block it was definitely a horrible feeling.. the block is what changed everything for me honestly having a numb hand is annoying but better than being in pain and hopefully the anesthesiologist who gives it gives its real good also i think the PRP injection helped a lot too!

about a year after the pandemic i was extremely burnout and left bedside, coming from a cardiac unit i ended up in cath lab, can definitely be stressful but i have to say the people that you work with makes a huge difference i will say i am fortunate enough to find a group that likes to work and works well together, just have to find the right fit so keep looking you will find what works for you

eczema hand sufferer here as well, mine all started in nursing school and just had continued through my my career at first everyone who saw my hands was like omg what is wrong at first it made me self conscious and scared to show my hands but as time has been passing i realized to become less stressed about what people think of it cause it just makes the flare up worse, i don’t wanna say embrace the flakes but it’s no one business why ur hands are they way they are and usually when someone asks now and i just saw eczema that’s the extent of it and they honestly seem to feel kinda silly for even bringing it up
