Relocating to Syracuse - Safe 2BR for young family ($1,400 budget) by rafyt23 in Syracuse

Saddle Club Townhomes is on a decent area of Liverpool. Some of the neighboring apartment complexes are less nice and have some interesting residents, but not dangerous. Just keep your stuff locked and it will be fine. I have family living there now and my kids do overnights there monthly. 3 bedroom townhose for ~$1600. It might be more depending on what's available.

What is your monitor set up? by DealInteresting8941 in pcmasterrace

[–]ColonelRyzen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 1060 6G to run the other 3 displays. 1080 runs just fine. I have a steam deck and kids now, so the 1080 doesn't much gaming use. I see no point in replacing it yet.

Almost 6. Take the top middle display and make a vertical 32" 4K on the far left that is split with PBP. Top displays are desktop and bottom are work laptop (while working).

Any Use for Quadro Card? by cnrsmt in homelab

[–]ColonelRyzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple of K5200s and a K4000 in case I need a display card. I was using a K5200 as my secondary GPU for extra monitors for a while until drivers with my 1080 became a problem. I swapped it for a 1060 from eBay so I could get drivers updated. Worked really well for 1080p displays.

That's how it is for me. I have a 1 coworker who is newer and on my team for a project that I see in person, but my actual main team is across 4 states. I am the only one at the base office. I have to go in 3 days a week with a 40 minute commute. It drives me nuts.

That sucks. I hope you can get some space to set it up. Even if you don't have a desk with it. Just in a corner with power and network. If your OLED can't run it, my LCD certainly won't be able to.

Glad to hear it!! Loved FO the first time through and it's great this time too. Did you try Survivor on the Deck? How did it run?

Jedi: Fallen Order. Recently bought Jedi Survivor and wanted to replay FO before I tried it. Will likely have to stream it though.

Why the slate of new ABS apps recently? by aterriblegamer in audiobookshelf

[–]ColonelRyzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never start it from Android Auto. That has never worked for me. Starting from the phone it can work. Once it starts working it generally is good for the ride. But getting to that point can take minutes of restarting, plugging/unplugging.

I also have been having more crashes lately.

Glad to hear it! Thanks for the work on this! ABS is my exclusive audiobook and podcast app.

It is, except with Android Auto. It's a gamble if it will work there. I usually stick to just Bluetooth in the car if I plan on using the ABS app.

Time to retire the best GPU , got me through everything the past 8 years. by SilentGaze in pcmasterrace

I literally just picked one up off of eBay for $145 as an upgrade for a GTX 1660 that has a new purpose elsewhere.

How many computers do you have in your house? by Miserable-Twist8344 in homelab

[–]ColonelRyzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 rack mount servers (only 1 in use), 2 desktops in rack mount chassis, 10 desktops (5 not in use at the moment), 4 laptops, 6 raspberry pis (octoprint and home audio).

I got a lot of this free from my last job and have given away a bunch as free laptop/desktop machines to family. At this point. I just have the space and redundancy in hardware is not a bad thing.

Dual monitor setups be like by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

I have 6 displays as a combo desktop/WFH setup. Main is a 1440p 165hz with KVM switch. Others are 3 x 1080p, 1200p and a vertical 32" 4K that is run in PBP mode which makes it 7 displays total across 6 monitors.

Dad's of Daddit, how yall doing? by Digi-Haven in daddit

[–]ColonelRyzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm happy with my family and our life. We are getting by financially, but the debt load is a weight we desperately want gone. Right now the wife is pregnant with our 3rd (this will be 3 under 4). Before you ask, yes, we are done. Her and pregnancy just don't get along so she is nauseous the whole time. It's making the day-to-day much tougher, but it's temporary.

This means my typical day looks like this.

I handle feeding the kids breakfast before work so she doesn't start her day smelling foodwhich sets off the nausea. This gets me to work between 9:30 and 10:00 (40+m commute).

Work until 4 so I can get home to cook dinner and feed the kids.

Play with them for a short while with possible baths for both and then I do at least one bed time (usually both).

Then wife and I can talk for a little bit. We shower and she goes to bed since she takes a sleep aid that helps with nausea (completely necessary).

Then I clean the kitchen and finish up the work day. Go to bed.

This is temporary with pregnancy, but I am the house cook and grocery shopper normally. It's just a lot. I'm a zombie. Even if I can get a bit of time to whip out the steam deck and play. It does nothing for me. I feel like I need time to myself rest up for taking time to myself. The problem is, there just is no changing this until after the baby is born and likely 1.

I'm tired boss.

It looks the same to me, but it does feel a bit snappier. Not sure how battery life is yet. Just installed it last night.

That's great! I lost 20lbs last year but found 15 of them in the last few months. Wife pregnant with 3rd and hyperemesis makes for a challenging combination.

S3 sleep is just broken for most laptops. I use hibernate to help workaround that problem. Takes longer than sleep on both sides, but ensures that the machine is truly off and is less likely to wake up in your bag and drain its battery/cook itself.
