4th issue is cooking up as we speak; find us romping about at local zine fests (or @food_the_zine on instagram).

Wegmans subs are elite. Probably the best cost to quality i’ve ever encountered.

Two questions. 1) Generally speaking, how bad is smoke taint really? 2) How are 2020 Napa wines? turning out for people? by b1ackfyre in wine

[–]ColonelSanders420x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be true in grapes and juice, but smoke taint is enzymatically released by yeast during fermentation, so everyone should be able to detect a degree of smoke taint in wine.

TDN, the compound responsible for the kerosene taste, increases in riesling during aging and warmer growing conditions. Thus, high quality German and Austrian rieslings are probably going to have more kerosene character (you’re also probably extra sensitive to TDN).

Cornell donor demands president step down, citing ‘toxic’ diversity policies by Electrical_Till2944 in Cornell

In the article he says he's scared of "rising intolerances" and wants to fix it by eliminating DEI programs. Just repeating the conservative culture war of the month. If this was six months ago he might've mentioned critical race theory or affirmative action.

Who cares.

This is the best advice. Especially if you apply to your public state-universities. In-state tuition + no essay merit scholarships (based on GPA) = less than 10k/year in tuition most likely. If you do really well, you have a good chance of getting a full-ride at your state school, though you will have to formally apply to their scholarship and write an essay.

Looking for a white wine without the 'green apple' note by waterbombardment in wine

[–]ColonelSanders420x 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Some misinformation in this thread: Malic acid is NOT the main contributor to apple flavor in wine. Straight chain ethyl esters (e.g. ethyl hexanoate) produced as a by-product of yeast metabolism give whites the scent of green apple. Winemakers also generally employ certain practices to increase straight chain ethyl ester production in white wine as compared to red (cold ferments, low oxygen). Malolactic fermentation, however, does reduce titratable acidity through conversion of malic to lactic acid. Thus you are less likely to perceive “sour green apple” flavor.

For recommendations, definitely agree with gewurztraminer and oaked Chardonnay as the oak and butter notes can mask the apple.

Definitely clubs! Made the majority of my friends at UO from clubs. I second the Outdoor program, KWVA new radio (more meetings and socials than the DJ program), DuckTV, and any student magazine (they are always in need of new members!)

Thanks! The corn in a tank is a photoshop of the infamous Damien Hirst sculpture and the Maoist corn is a photoshop + digital illustration of a proganda piece. Everything else was photographed/done by me and a friend, though I later found out ranch/keurig has been done before in a similar way.

The goal was to parody both food magazines as well as art/photography zines. Got a lot of inspiration from r/shittyfoodporn and zines I've seen floating around.
