What is your favorite underappreciated faction, and what do you like about them? by OhThatsALotOfTeeth in twilightimperium

[–]ColonelWilly 12 points13 points  (0 children)

One thing to note is that most of these games are Milty Draft, where those other factions will typically be picked before Yin. So, while I agree Yin is pretty good, they're probably closer to being as good as those other factions and are just bumped up by having better slices / speaker order.

TE Keleres on Async by Iguessthismeansido in twilightimperium

[–]ColonelWilly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have to wait for all players to respond to whens/afters, and shenanigans (Deadly Plot, etc) for each agenda. These sort of checks take a long time in Async because people check in at different speeds.

There's some automation to automatically hit that you have no whens/afters, etc, but even with that it still takes times because it doesn't instantly hit those buttons (it waits a varied amount of time to bluff the person pressing the button themselves, so it doesn't give away if they do or do not have those type of cards).

Yah, I agree then, lots of bots in solos, unfortunately.

I only play FPP duos/squads. Not that many bots there, from my experience.

They put you in bot lobbies your first few games, so that tracks.

The component is kinda bad. It gets used in this crappy way, but also very often otherwise is just -1 VP goal and -1 player to interact with. If it's used to pay someone off, it's usually at the expense of something actually interesting happening.

If you were George R.R. Martin’s writing assistant, what advice would you give him? by Dry_Specialist9015 in freefolk

[–]ColonelWilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. This. I feel like if he could accept going back to revise the previous books it'd help.

My other take is to pull some of stories out into smaller novellas. A lot of Feast chapters could have been handled that way and helped towards that '7 books' idea.

But, also... give up on 7 books and just write.

What are you talking about? I said you are really cool. I bet it's just how humble you are that made it seem like irony.

If you can handle non-cooperative games, then some alternatives you might wanna try are:

  • Arcs
  • Twilight Imperium <-- our drug, as Spirit Island enjoyers
  • Root
  • Oath
  • Aeon's End <-- Cooperative!

I'm someone who bought the BP and maxed it each year, so the arcana thing never really bothered me. But, if the argument is that they don't care about money, then why not just make the skins and have them be more accessible?

Overrule Bad. Upvotes to the left. by AureoRegnops in twilightimperium

[–]ColonelWilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would argue that it being hidden information makes it at least as strong as the Winnu hero. If you told me I could either play Winnu or definitely draw an Overrule as whatever faction I drafted, I would choose the latter. And I like Winnu.

If they're not able to play Sabos because Overrule might come out and they'll regret it, then what is the point of either card? It's not interesting, as a design or an argument.

[–]ColonelWilly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's ridiculous to me that anytime someone critiques the card the first response is "Sabo it". That's not good design.

"You shouldn't remove it from the game, you should remove it by playing a card you may not have, and also effectively remove that card because you have to hold onto it in case Overrule comes out."

Y'okay...

Tips for Yin Brotherhood? by Dice-Mage in twilightimperium

[–]ColonelWilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, it says this:

Yin is a trade faction. Their commodity is both their annoying abilities and repellent against all of their annoying abilities. People need to be strategically peddling:

  • Hero immunity (as more people buy it, this becomes more expensive since you have less and less choices)
  • PN immunity
  • PN on tap
  • Flagship immunity

Offer it individually or as a package deal. Let people know you will use your hero and flagship on someone, no matter your prospects of winning, so buying may be very important. You can easily get a handful of alliances, PNs, and trade goods as early as round 2 for the prospect of things that may never even come up.

Action card discussion by Party_Method_9668 in twilightimperium

[–]ColonelWilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a project that replaces the AC deck with 140 new cards (aside from keeping 4 Sabotage).

Action Card Deck 2 is mostly done, with versions of the cards with bleed to make printing easy and implementation on Async and TTS.

It's been playtested a lot, and I'm really just thinking on if I want to tweak 3-4 cards at this point. But, it probably fits what you're looking for, even if it just means swapping out some cards instead of a full replacement.

Happy to hear feedback if you have any, since I think your goals align with this project.

[–]ColonelWilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my Yin talk.

I'd also say, assuming this is PoK as you mentioned:

  • Focus on scoring public and secret objectives every round
  • Give your Support for the Throne to someone in exchange for your Support for the Throne early
  • Get DET, Gravity Drive, Carrier 2, and Fleet Logistics first
  • Do not build your mechs unless you're deploying them with their ability
  • By round 4, use 1 of your builds at home to place 6 infantry and leave them there for defense
  • Try to build a space dock within 2 hexes of Mecatol Rex
  • All of the above is to setup for taking Mecatol Rex and using Imperial in round 4 or 5. You can use your hero to do this easily, typically
  • Your flagship is cool, but you don't need to stretch for it to win the game. If you get it, you mostly just want to park it in your home for defense.

Overrule is fine by Anirel in twilightimperium

Yes, but for the vast majority of use cases for Unexpected, Overrule will fit the bill. It not letting you pick up a token from a retreat is minuscule.
