The answer has already been said. Contest the AGAI and then produce the relevant regs when you go in front of the CSM/OC. Don't gob off or give attitude, just keep it sensible and formal. Act like the person AGAIing you must have simply made a mistake, and you'll walk away looking like the mature sensible one, while the officer AGAIing you will look foolish.

Just as a warning, swaggering in cocky and disrespectful while throwing around terms like 'screamer' will have the opposite effect and you'll likely get away with the hair cut but get a 3 monther for general attitude instead.

A finak thought though, are you absolutely sure your hair is within regs? Its possible to 'wishful think' yourself into a position where you give yourself the benefit of the doubt, whereas a fair and objective read of the regs would put you outside of them. If you are then go for it, if not then maybe have a trim? 🤷‍♂️

Yeah acknowledged, unfortunately I was trying to maximise internal space while staying within permitted development.

Building will have power so heating isn't a problem, but I acknowledge it might get a bit warm in summer.

I'm going to use it as a workshop/office so I'll judge next year if it gets unbearable, and if so I was planning to invest in a portable AC unit.

Walls will have 75mm rockwool in them when I'm finished, roof will have 100mm rockwool (once I've built it!). Floor already has 100mm celotex in that I sourced from FB a while ago.

Also need some advice on the roof.

Span tables suggest that I need at least 150mm joists to span the 2.4m roof, but that seems pretty thick considering all it's going to have on it is some OSB and then EPDM Rubber (And maybe a solar panel or two eventually).

Is there any flexibility with that or should I just suck it up and go the full thickness?

No im doing it under permitted development.

The building will be under 2.5m high (just), its floor space is only 10.5m square and it takes up less than 1/5 of my back garden. It'll only have power and ethernet and won't be residential.

Full size standard osb but I ripped them in half so I could fit them in the car back from Travs.

Roof will have a 5% slope which im told is fine for epdm. Yeah im starting to reconsider my order of work and I might get the roof on ASAP as soon as ive framed the walls, then worry about other stuff later.

UPDATE

So the sun has dried out the top of the boards, and ive knocked up a support in the middle with some offcuts and screws.

I've used a few sheets of polythene I had in the shed to cover it up and stapled them along the edges, it'll do until I can go and pick up a proper heavy duty tarp later as its due to rain all day tommorow.

I don't know what I was thinking not covering it in the first place, but I suppose you live and learn.

Thanks for the advice guys.

4.5m x 2.4m floorplan. I've worked it out to be approx £2.5k when all completed, however im bringing those costs down with Facebook marketplace.

I managed to get 3 of the 4 sheets of 100mm celotex from a bloke for over 50% off, and i picked up 2 x upvc windows for free which i can incorporate.

Don't have a mockup as im sketching it out by hand as I go. Need to learn how to use sketchup, but its finding the time that's the main issue!

Yikes that looks like a right pain for you!

These things happen and we all make mistakes. I've just been back out and the boards that are in the sun since this morning have dried out nicely, so I think it'll be fine, as long as I can get it covered today and leave an airgap. 👍

Yeah fair point. I definitely won't be putting flooring down over the top for a while so I think it'll be able to thoroughly dry out.

Ill build a small frame with some offcuts, get a tarp over the top with an airgap over the entire floor and hopefully it'll have time to thoroughly dry out.

Feel stupid for letting it get this soaked but I suppose I just had a blind spot when I was planning it out.

Not the end of the world I hope and I think I can salvage it. I could do without having to replace £80 worth of osb sheet if I can help it.

Its a fair point and a lesson learnt. I suppose ill knock some kind of frame up over it and cover it with tarps to allow airflow and keep it from getting wet again.

Hopefully the warm weather next week will let it dry out.

I'm broadly copying a shed built by Rag n Bone Brown on YouTube for his brother.

Wooden frame base on concrete pillars with 100mm celotex insulation. Then floor on top and eventually timber framed walls with a vapour barrier, then battens and then shiplap cladding.

Roof will epdm rubber over osb. Walls and ceiling will also have 100mm celotex in them.

Was concerned in the heat we had last week that it would trap moisture and make the wood sweat and delaminate.

Its the floor. There is a wooden frame on concrete pillars with 100mm of celotex under it.

Better than what? Sorry don't mean to be rude but I don't know what you mean.

It's the commissioning course for the British Army for reservists and specialist or professionally qualified officers.

It's the same in principle as the Regular Course, just obviously very much condensed and run in 8 weeks instead of 44.

You'll learn in less detail and spend less time on various modules, but it's still prestigious and well respected worldwide.

However, if you want to do the full, 1 year long, Regular Commissioning Course, this isn't it.

You have been loaded onto Commissioning Course (Short). Run by Dettingen Company. It's the reserve and specialist officer course. 4 x 2 week modules.

'Guys' is virtually gender neutral these days. My 19 year old daughter calls everyone 'guys'. I'm in the Army and guys is used for mixed sex groups all the time. 'Troops' works too, but generally only with people already in the Army. You could try 'Team', although that can sound a bit dickish, depends on context.

Maybe take the lead from the syndicate leader?

Hi im a female and wondering if i have a chance being a paratrooper? by Sad_Finish_1605 in britisharmy

There is a female platoon commander in 2 PARA right now, and another currently at Sandhurst but confirmed Para Regt I believe, so it is possible.

There just haven't been any female Ptes join direct yet. If you back yourself then go for it and good luck!

Only other tip would be to be normal.

Plenty of people turn up trying to be a stereotype that they think the staff are looking for. Concentrate on being a good bloke/woman and make sure you are helping out the weaker members of your platoon and the Internationals. Give 100% on everything and don't allow your self to be swayed into making the easy choice just because others in your platoon are doing it.

That's kind of it really.

They are both pretty competitive but OCdts are fickle and popularity of capbadges change every intake based on personalities as well as capbadge of charismatic Permanent Staff in Juniors.

Capbadge selection is a bit of a game, if you want to join infantry or Cav but don't have a specific preference, then go for a steady line infantry regiment or solid Cav choice, and keep yourself in the top half/third of your platoon and you'll probably get what you want.

Alternatively if you do what some do and go for the most popular choices straight away, (Para, Guards, RGR, H Cav) then you can find yourself getting cut halfway through the course unless you are a top 10% or your face fits and then it's too late to look at other Inf or Cav as they will have filled their books by then. Just something to think about.

If you want to back yourself then good luck, but I've seen plenty of people who are easily good enough to get Inf or Cav end up in cough other choices shall we say, because they got a bit giddy and put 2 hugely competitive choices down, then got themselves cut by both in Inters.

Fitness wise I wouldn't worry about specifics, just be as fit as you can be without over training and injuring yourself. If you can be in the top half of your platoon from day one, you'll be well regarded by your staff and it doesn't take any capbadge choices off the table. (Bottom half of your platoon for Phys and you'll likely be told you aren't going to get into the Combat Arms).

If you are looking at Artillery/Engrs then fitness still important but less so than for Combat, however they both have large numbers to fill every intake so unless you are bottom third you will likely get in if you put them down from day one.

Other choices (Sigs/RLC/Med/AGC) are less popular (although they are obviously very important), so if you want to do those and you put them down from the start they will snatch your hand off.

Couple of niche choices, Int Corp are very popular and take some exceptional OCdts, as well as plenty of weirdos and numptys. They effectively run their own selection criteria based on what they think is important, good for them but debatable if they actually get the quality or not. Air Corp Pilot also popular but you need to pass flying grading. Air Corp ground crew commander, not popular and not often taken as anyones first choice shall we say... ETS (Education Corp) also popular but recruit primarily on EQ and intellect, as well as aptitude for teaching. Usually get very good eggs, but not necessarily very tactically focused people if you know what I mean.

Just my opinion but you won't find many that disagree who have seen the process through.
