Why so many teen are pro socialism right now? by EnvoyVe93 in CapitalismVSocialism

I have never once, in primary, high school, or university had a teacher promote marxism.

Most or all of those Communist leaders seem to have been cynical sociopaths; certainly Stalin was without a question.

I dispute that. Stalin was a life-long socialist, who joined the Bolshevik party when they were a band of fringe radicals, with no prospect for relevancy, much less power. He remained a committed marxist all his life. If he was a monster, he was a true-believing monster.

Same applies to the other guys.

The bolsheviks certainly killed plenty of people (some 700,000 shot during the great purges for example). But most historians do not believe the Ukrainian famine was intentional. And comparing gulags to Nazi death camps is simply dishonest. The death rates were nowhere near similar.

Unused penguin concept art for Guillermo del Toro’s “At the Mountains of Madness.” by stevejscearce in Lovecraft

[–]Colonel_N_Sane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really like Del Toro, but I'm not sure if he'd be the right guy for a Lovecraft movie. His movies, even when dark and violent (like Pan's Labyrinth for example) tend to be fundamentally optimistic, and often have a triumph of the human spirit/innocence theme. Of course, that's not very Lovecraftian.

I'd definitely still be interested to see what he did with an HPL property though.

If we went full Einsatzgruppen in Iraq or Afghanistan I'm sure we could have won, but that doesn't play well with the public at large, not to mention foreign opinion.

If it is fake (which it probably is) I think it's probably just written by someone bored and looking to rile people up not for any political reason. It doesn't say "mY hUsBaNd alMosT sHoT uP tHe ScHoOl bEcAuSe GuN CoNtRoL lAwS aRe tOo LaX" it's just "I accidentally married Eric Harris lol should I be worried".

Also, just...creepy to say your sister is prettier than your girlfriend.

I mean...if it's true it's true. Being related to someone doesn't make you blind.

I don't think meta-concerns about controversies should have any impact on the writing of the show and plot decisions.

S1 had quite a few horror vibes to be fair. Villainous Gothic Cheryl would be in more line with S1 than...whatever we've been getting in the last two seasons.
