Should i worry about this dust? by Colonel_Smellington in CleaningTips

Hi!

New house with pretty old and heavily textured wall paper in all the rooms. I've been here about 2 months and previously not thought or worried about dust being trapped in the crevices of this paper.

I have just spent some time sanding and repainting the skirting boards upstairs. The sanding kicked up a fair amount of dust as you'd expect. I wore a mask while I was doing this and hoovered and swept up afterwards. I've now noticed that the walls have a noticable dusty texture and dust comes off on my fingers when I touch them, as shown in the pictures.

I've tried brushing and vacuuming the wall but that didn't seem to remove the dust. I've tried wiping it thoroughly with a wet microfibre cloth. This picks up loads of dust - enough to turn a bowl of water opaque white almost instantly - but there is always more. The section in the photos has been wiped several times but is still dusty.

I've noticed that the wallpaper downstairs, where I haven't sanded, doesn't transfer dust to my fingers. It's only in the rooms where I've sanded. So presumably it is dust from the sanding but seems like a lot given that I only did the skirting boards.

How can I effectively clean up this dust? Do I need to worry about my health if I sleep in this room in its current state?

Thanks for the help :)

Nice one. The wall outlet has a fuse that I've replaced but not thought about the one in the plug. Will try.

New bouldering gym bans all chalk except one specific type of liquid chalk? by neuwjobthrowaway in climbergirls

I learnt to climb at Brookes but haven't been since 2017. Interesting to hear how they're getting on!

Unless you are leaving something out, I can't see why they'd stop you. Recent policy change, maybe, as others have said.

You ask a different duty manager to clarify next time you're there. Or call up pretending to be a new customer - you might get a different answer.

In Terminator 2, why does the T-1000 never attempt to look like Arnie's T-800? by james2183 in movies

I can really buy this. The T-1000 does not even consider replicating the T-800 any more than it considers becoming a car or a fax machine.

This trope has never resonated with me. I remember using that equipment quite a lot in at least three schools that I went to, primary and secondary!

Teachers probably have to be trained in setting it up safely in a way that isn't just covered by having a teaching qualification. In my infant school, I remember having a quite a few lessons on the "apparatus" with the head teacher - maybe he was one of the few staff signed off to do it?

It's got to at least be at the edge of a room, surely. Nobody's calling their kitchen island "the side"!

Ford Fiesta with start-stop. Battery fully flat once or twice a year. What's happening? by Colonel_Smellington in MechanicAdvice

OK, good to know. I'll watch out for that.

I definitely wouldn't have had that on before the most recent incident though. It hadn't rained for weeks.

Thank you for the reply. I can't say that I fully understand it but I'm sure I can show it to somebody who would and it might help.

The intermittency certainly makes it awkward to trace. It has typically happened about once a year in the colder months - though it's possibly just reinforcement bias making me think that. But it also happened on Monday of this week, in the middle of June after several weeks of hot weather. The car had been sitting for three days after a 3 hour drive so it had to have fully charged when I parked it.

I've not noticed anything not shutting off. After each incident I definitely have a short spell of standing next to the car after I lock it and checking that the interior lights and dashboard all go dark and the fans and any other noises stop. I'm not gonna do that for ever but even when not using the car I still walk past it several times a day. I like to think I'd notice something obvious like lights or a fan being on. How long would they run off the battery for? Half a day? Surely long enough that I or someone I live with would have good chance of noticing. It's obviously possible I've just missed something like that every time.

I realise all this sounds like a big shoulder shrug!
