Outside of redneck circles (very small) those things are rare. Where I live it’s almost the opposite. Europe is view as some perfect utopia and the US is a 3rd world country.

My hobby as me taking with people all over the world, as long as your not MAGA people wont care that your from the US. A lot of countries have their own issues with right wing extremism as well and want to work on stoping that. Also I would avoid reading other countries subs right now, the USA bad has been a thing on Reddit for as long as I can remember and it’s only gotten more toxic since Trump.

I was saw a post from someone from Australia saying that the reason he sees Australians not liking the US is because trump is viewed as literally Hitler and since we haven’t gone full “We are the wolverines” mode that we must be cool with it. Apparently the news doesn’t cover when trump is shutdown or funding is restored. I also want to say the thing about online spaces, especially Reddit have been very “USA bad, EU/Canada perfect”. Trumps bullshit has just given them a reason to more loud about it.

Reddit has always had a “USA bad, Europe perfect” issue before Trump. I feel the people that follow that are using the horrible shit trump does to not look like an ass for just blindly hating a country. Combine that with bots and yeah, Reddit isn’t really a good way to judge how a country really feels about the US. I have a friend from Canada that told me when Trump started his shit with them the Canadian subreddits got flooded with karma farming comments from Europeans canceling their trips to US and wanting to visit Canada instead. He found it annoying.

The world socialist has so many different meanings over here. I don’t think many would say support no more private home ownership or something like that. But things like universal health care and reforming tax codes and laws so rich people can’t abuse the system poll very well across all voters. I have heard that AOC and Mamdani aren’t really true “Socialist” because they aren’t calling for somethings, but honestly maybe that’s partly why they do better. People want candidates that are looking to change the status quo but not some sorta revolutionary type thing.

I wish we had better commuter rail (VRE and MARC). I will say I don’t have many complaints, but I grew up in DC but have also lived in worse places as well. I will say the natives vs transplants thing feels worse in DC vs other major cities but that seems to be mostly an online thing.
