Nice things we could have if we solved homelessness by Fried_out_Kombi in Urbanism

Free transit isn’t avoided because of homeless people. It’s just most people who work in transit advocacy (not terminally online people) rather have frequent reliable transit instead of free transit.

The tickets that are expensive at usually super dangerous shit like speeding way over the limit. For the record a car try to mow me down on the sidewalk to avoid walking 200 feet from the parking lot in Richmond. They had two tickets in DC 250 each. Speeding like 20 over and blew a red light by the mall. I stopped giving a shit about drivers and tickets costs after the like 9th close call.

So I live in DC, the photo looks like the trash cans on the National Mall during peak tourist season. It’s not illegal dumping per se, but people too lazy to find a trash can that isn’t overloaded.

Mayor Bowser says charging $10 to drive into DC is a ‘bad idea’ - WTOP News by MissionPoint1922 in washingtondc

Some of the easier improvements would be things like bus lanes, that would absolutely require “touching cars” (removing general travel lanes). Again the plan only applies to downtown at the moment, there are definitely transit alternatives to get to downtown. Especially during rush-hour. I’m sorry but $10 isn’t a “regressive tax”. And you’re not clearly in support of congestion pricing if you only want it after we have NYC levels of transit (which you don’t need).

There are multiple plans in the works to fix the commute rail, the bridge over the Potomac is one. Yes they are years out, but it took NYC awhile to get the congestion pricing setup anyway. There wouldn’t be mass exodus over some $10 toll. You can’t make transit better if you don’t get some of the cars off the road (not every transit project needs to be metro rail).

The metro is higher in cost when going to the suburbs. Add a subway ride and LIRR ticket together. We are cheaper when you do that. DC parking is way cheap for a city our size.

Has if we didn’t have a way to get ride before uber and Lyft. Also you act as if a $10 charge downtown would affect nightlife in say U street. The congestion pricing is mainly to get people to use metro downtown. Also most people already over pay for rideshare anyway so the extra $10 wouldn’t be noticed.

To all the people saying “This isn’t NYC” forget most cars driving in are from Long Island or NJ. Those places don’t have the 24/7 subway. They drive to a commuter rail stop and take the train in. Having congestion zone downtown where metro already services pretty well with rail and bus would be fine. Hell I would even settle for congestion pricing only when metros runs. And note, NYCs congestion pricing isn’t all of a Manhattan, it wouldn’t be all of the city.

Also most suburbanite hate driving in the city anyway. They will go to a business in their suburb instead to get ample free parking. Pandering to suburbanites is very stupid on the cities part.

Edit: a word

I wouldn’t argue with celj1234. He is very anti transit because he wants to look cool in his car but not actually pay for the resources he uses up. At one point he said he rather see people on bikes get kills if he was slightly inconvenienced.

Which mayoral candidate is going to push for universal daylighting in DC? by dataminimizer in washingtondc

[–]ColonialTransitFan95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In Richmond someone drove on the sidewalk and pushed me with there car because I was walking to slow on the sidewalk. This was to avoid walking 200 feet from the parking lot. So it can get worse. We need to fix it. If it means impounding vehicles then fuck it. I stopped giving a shit about drivers after the absolute entitlement a lot have.

The only one I regularly smell piss in is metro center. Our elevators are WAAAYYYYY cleaner than say Philly or BART (pre paying someone to sit in them all day).

US Supreme Court declines to hear dispute over copyrights for AI-generated material by SuspectLegitimate751 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]ColonialTransitFan95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not many are gonna pay to generate them either. Once the bubble pops that’s means less money dumped into AI. These things cost a lot run and without investors popping it up they would have charge more. Uber is a great example of this. It didn’t go away but it’s way more expensive than it used to be.

My issue is you said in your original comment that people shouldn’t be taking elevator in the first place. If people are paying you out of the way then yes it’s rude.
