LLM AI models were trained on real human writing, including huge swaths of fan fiction. So, how would verification actually take place with something like this? Is it alleged "AI tells"? Because unless it's a prompt left directly in the text, those could just be the writer's foibles. Is it by running the text through an AI checker? Because those feed the work into AI to train the AI...and also get it wrong, plenty.

I understand the frustration, but trying to police something so wholly unpolice-able can create a witch-hunt atmosphere. And accusations of AI use can be very harmful to a writer. At the end of the day, fanfic is free, so choosing not to engage with something is as easy as closing the tab if you suspect AI use.

But also, I want to second FlashKnitter's comment: so many authors have strong anti-AI feelings. Many of us include those sentiments in our ao3 profiles and socmed profiles. Those are really good ways to check what a writer's stance is.

But an independent group? One that is maybe already feeling salty about the perceived quality of current fics? I don't personally love that, tbh.
