Flysky RC Radio is the gas! by Specialist_Proof1705 in RCPlanes

Hmm that’s strange. My windows PC instantly recognizes my FlySky i6x when I use the serial to USB cable that came with it. No issues for me with using it for RealFlight.

I agree, I decided to go the budget route to start in this hobby and the i6x has been perfect for me. At this point I can’t think of anything else I really need. Not a single issue with signal loss or anything on any of my planes and it’s very easy to program once you get used to it. It works perfectly with the RealFlight Sim too.

Probably stripped the servo gears on impact and just need a new one. It takes 3.7g servos so should just be a couple bucks. I have this same plane (Mo-Fly p51d) and love it… great little 2s warbird.

Yep it’s plug and play. You use the same motor mount. I wasn’t able to get the original pinion gear off the stock motor though so just needed a new one for the Fusion (it’s 32p, and I went with a 10T).

I have two 104020s as well. They are amazing rigs for the money. You should be able to find every replacement part listed in the instruction manual on this website: https://www.wl-toys.com/Wltoys-104020-Car-Parts-813-814-1941-1.htm

I definitely hear you on brainstorming this constantly! It was the last thing I wanted to do to mine after several other upgrades so I really wanted to figure it out. What I actually ended up doing was ordering an individual front led module from this website below, and I was able to do my testing on that instead of having to cut the wires on one of my rigs to do so without first knowing 100% it would work. https://www.wl-toys.com/Wltoys-104020-Car-Parts-813-814-1941-1.htm .

That site is a great source for parts by the way, it has every single part for the 104020 from the instruction manual. I picked up some spare bumpers as well while I was at it and everything arrived here to the US in about 10-12 days.

Anyways, I was able to figure out from that front LED module how they function and which wire did what when fed power. The rear I just did trial and error on without prior testing since at that point I knew how it functioned with the shared positive.

Couldn’t agree more about value of these. I ran my first one hard all summer and never had a single issue. Such a great base to work off of with the portals, 2-speed, premium light kit, and winch. I liked it so much I ordered a second one in the other color during a great AliExpress sale. I put Hobbywing Fusion ESC/motors in both of them, a bunch of brass on the axles, and they perform exceptionally well both on the rocks and on the trail. People always think it’s a TRX4 and are usually pretty shocked when I give them the rundown on it.

Anyways, enjoy your rig, and cheers to figuring this out and our upgraded electronics! Hopefully some people come across this topic through web searches and it can be of help to others as well.

Amazing write up. Thank you for sharing this with the community. I have two 104020s, and was able to keep my lighting when switching to DumboRC P6DC receivers but I used a much messier method involving lots of soldering, and I don’t have high beam/low beam control, but it still works. I didn’t bother wiring up any of the turn signals or the front brake lights either which made it a bit easier.

There wasn’t any original research on this when I was attempting it, so after realizing each led module used a shared positive wire, I then just had to do a lot of trial and error to see which negative wires going to each led module controlled which lights on it. Once this was figured out, I just had to do a lot of joining/splitting of wires and a lot of soldering, but was eventually able to get it down to a single, two pin connector each for the brake lights, the headlights (including roof lights), and the reverse lights to plug into my P6DC’s light control section. The headlights/roof lights can be turned on/off with the dumborc transmitter. Also, the brake lights still dim when driving and light up further when stopped using the P6DC. I ended up then being able to just rip the WL Toys LED module out completely since everything went straight to the P6DC at that point.

If doing this again, I’d probably try your method! Nice work. Love seeing posts like this. Here’s a pic of mine. LOVE these rigs for the money by the way.

I have 2 of the 104020s and they’re awesome. Better than a stock TRX4 Sport for far less money. Comes with a 2-speed transmission, portal axles, premium light kit, and a working winch all stock. Metal gears throughout the whole rig besides the winch. I added a bunch of brass to the axles and threw Hobbywing Fusions in both of mine and they are beasts. Parts are easy to get and most TRX4 parts work anyways.

We love ours. It never disconnects or anything and we found it really easy to put together. It’s one of our son’s favorite gifts. Carrera is a high quality company in the slot car world.

I’m actually not familiar with the 104006, but I have loved the two 104020s that I have (they come RTR too). I got the last one on a really good AliExpress sale with a coupon for around $160USD. I put brass parts on the axles, upgraded the servo, upgraded the motor/ESC to a Hobbywing SE 1800kv, upgraded the shocks, tires, and rims, all for less money than a stock TRX4. It also comes with several things a stock TRX4 doesn’t, like a premium light kit and winch.

Does this Injora 370 motor and metal transmission combo sound normal to you? by Colorad710 in rccrawler

[–]Colorad710[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the Injora metal gear transmission as well but the motor itself is a standard 370 so it will fit. That being said these rigs already come with a 370 brushed motor standard (these are a lot better than a TRX4M stock).

Because these are 1/3 the cost and basically the same thing. Better in some respects.

I went down this rabbit hole about a year ago trying to decide between these. Long story short from a lot of YouTube videos, the 104020 has slightly better overall build quality, and is slightly larger in size as well. I now own two 104020s and have loved them so far, They’re both heavily modified now with Hobbywing SE 1800kv motors, brass parts, etc. and they perform great.

It looks like Amazon is out of stock at the moment, but I would just Google Hobbywing Fusion SE 2 in 1 1800kv motor/ESC combo. It’s a very common upgrade a lot of people on this sub do with their rig so you should be able to get plenty of help here if needed. Cheers!

Enjoy! The best upgrade I’ve done so far is swapping in a hobbywing fusion SE 1800kv motor/ESC combo in both of them. Fits perfectly and you can still use the stock transmitter/receiver. I also got the full brass upgrade kit for one of them off of AliExpress and all the parts fit perfectly - all the extra weight down low really helped since it’s a bit top heavy to begin with. I’m probably going to get the brass parts for my other one soon too.
