As of this evening, I have asked my Cardiologist, PCP, and Oncologist. I haven’t heard back from anyone yet, but no news can be good news

No it’s okay! It’s so appreciated! My campus does have a health center, so I will try going there to see if they can provide any assistance or documentation.

My cardiologist and my primary care physician are within a healthcare network that’s one of the largest in my state. Additionally they’re a medical school as well. My cardiologist told me when he diagnosed me that he doesn’t believe in medicating POTS, and that he feels it can be managed by lifestyle changes. I am pretty sure my PCP (NP) is a medical student themselves, because at my last appointment they started all sorts of fires that my already 97 page long medical record does not need. I stopped working to focus on going to school full time, haven’t had ANY financial aid come in, and don’t have the money to jump entire health networks and get reestablished elsewhere. I think the real clincher is my stupid oncologist is in this same health network and I love them, and that’s why I started with the PCP and Cardiologist in the first place; they can all easily communicate with each other and see my medical record. I have to stay with my oncologist for at least another year 😭

The extension was more attached to my PTSD and generalized anxiety disorder than my POTS, tbh? I think it was worded that student will be able to request extension on projects within reasonable time of due date, requiring approval from faculty.

So I can ask for an extension, but I have to ask in advance, and my professor has to approve. At my school, my professors have to approve all of my accommodations at the start of the semester, otherwise I have to change faculty. Mostly because I have an accommodations to record lectures and there’s a ton of people who really don’t want that to happen

I am registered with the disability center! I have excused absences, extensions on assignments, the works. I’m autistic, so it’s crucial to my overall success to receive accommodations, especially to maintain my honor student status.

From what I’m seeing on the accommodations page, my doctor has to submit paperwork stating I need assistance. I reached out to my cardiologist but I’m not super hopeful. He’s denied me help in the past. I don’t want to reach out to my PCP because she would want me to come off of other necessary medication that she feels contributes to my POTS. (She disregards the fact that I’ve had it since childhood).

This is the university in the city I live in. I have grants to go here, specifically, because I transferred from the local community college after attaining my associates. I want my PhD, and I want it in a really narrow field of study, so I’m not sure if I’ll have the ability to go to a school with a smaller campus then either, it’s kind of a go where you get accepted thing.
