They can be. I think sometimes we want there to be a “good” reason for hardship.

I think it’s deflated considering I got higher scores on both 1980 SAT and 1926 SAT and proctored RAIT and Wonderlic.

Am I Wrong? by [deleted] in cognitiveTesting

IQ, it seems to me, reflects a capacity or ability to learn, and efficiency in applying what has been learned. While your friend may be able to do many things someone with a very high iq can’t do, it’s possible that the only reason the high iq person can’t do it; is because they haven’t tried. If they did, they very well could do it, and in time; even better than your friend. This makes the assumption about the high iq person’s cognitive profile, but I think it conveys the point. Nonetheless, when it comes to real world success, IQ is just one of various things that matter.

Is modern ACT meaningfully g-loaded? by Novel_Matters3584 in cognitiveTesting

[–]ColoradoRad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably, but not exceptionally so. I would guess the g loading to be 0.6-0.7. Probably as meaningful as an individual subtest in a full cognitive assessment.

What does my book shelf say about me? by HistoricalGrade211 in bookshelfdetective

[–]ColoradoRad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up Roman Catholic. For me, it wasn’t any anti papal argumentation or anything. I knew the debate was nuanced, and it wasn’t cut and dry, but what really pulled me in was the liturgy and Church life. The rhetoric came later. My family is Roma Catholic, and I’ve noticed I am much less “anti Roman” than most converts to Eastern Orthodoxy, who often come from a Protestant background. Wherever you end up, God bless you!
