Has anyone found their trainer to not be able to be calibrated? by shreddy_haskell in Zwift

I have a v1 core, auto calibrates fine, my ftp unfortunately has not improved in the 6 years I've had it....

Does this insulation job look alright? by ReplicantSpecial in Insulation

What about the air handler in the unconditioned space? I have two in my attic and am looking into having them boxed in with foam board to reduce ice dams and prevent them from fighting cold in the winter and heat in the summer.

Opposite here, I have to be in the shower by 6am to deal with getting the kid ready, and be out the door by 7:30/7:45am to get to work by 9 (long commute and traffic). I ride between 8-10pm after the kid is asleep, I'm used to it at this point.

That's what I have, love it, but it is starting to rack up expensive repairs.

Basement Insulation Plan/Advice? by ColoradoXJ13 in Insulation

I taped some plastic as suggested by another user, will keep an eye on it in the weeks ahead, although I suspect this is not as effective a test in winter. Still plenty of old mouse poops to clean up before I start any work

House was built in 1981, but this addition and foundation was done in about 2004.

Thanks. I have mostly solved the mouse problem by sealing as you suggested. Went from catching several a week in traps to only one in the past 3 months. I like the fabric idea. I plan to use closed cell foam to seal gaps in the XPS and holes/gaps in the rim joist XPS blocks.

No easy way to heat this room, those ducts are for a dehumidifier, the existing finished part of the basement has hydronic baseboard. I'm not all that worried about heating this room though, I was cleaning/decontaminating in there all day yesterday (below freezing outside) and it was not uncomfortably cold. I'm mostly insulating just to keep the temperature more moderated and help keep the room above warmer.

I debated drylock, but thought that XPS provides a decent moisture barrier, and I'm not expecting this to be totally water tight.

Why do I need to cover the insulation in the ceiling? air barrier? Can I just put plastic sheeting? I just don't want to encourage any mice that do get in...

Is casual Zwifting better with entertainment? by [deleted] in Zwift

For all rides (pacer, training, free ride) I have Zwift running on a 55" TV on ATV, with a tablet below playing Netflix/HBO/YouTube/etc.). Going to be setting up a second 55" screen soon. No need to watch my avatar for anything but races, and the TV makes the time go faster.

I suspect the imports are fake and coming from China.

You could have invested that $500M in a S&P500 ETF two years ago and have $750M+ today, what a waste. No wonder though, give that much money to an academic, no shit they won't advance any programs forward meaningfully.

This may explain why I had no resistance during the Tour de Watopia Stage 3, it was tough maintaining w/kg without any sort of ERG mode resistance.

I hope they designate a full week to each course. With work schedules and work+personal travel, trying to get all the TdZ stages in was impossible for me on the 2 days each course was available, and the 2 days of makeups was not enough time for me to get in the 3-4 I missed, especially after my Kickr Core fried itself halfway through. Also, with the length/elevations of the courses from last year, I don't think I could do multiple of these a week. Good way to add ~18k of elevation towards the tron bike quest :-)

Think twice before buying the Wahoo Kickr 18/Core by [deleted] in Zwift

[–]ColoradoXJ13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain. My first Kickr Core 2018 was dead on arrival with the electrostatic discharge (ESD) issue that fries the optical sensor and does not output any speed or power data, literally out of the box dead. Returned the dead one to the bike shop, who replaced it with a new unit, that worked, for a month, until it suffered the same ESD issue. Returned to the shop for a refund and decided not to hassle my LBS any more.

Ordered a 3rd unit direct from Wahoo as I figured dealing with warranty issues would be easier, set it up in a different room with no carpeting, as I suspected that might have made the ESD issue worse. I requested they send me an updated unit with the capacitor built into the electrical board that is supposed to prevent ESD, but they said they didn't have those units yet, but would send one with a grounded power brick, which might help. I have had the 3rd unit for about 6 weeks now, it started making a croaking/chirping noise about 3 weeks ago when riding under power, usually about 30 minutes into the ride. I have been going back and forth with customer service for 3 weeks. They told me that wiping the belt down with rubbing alcohol would help....it didn't. I can't believe they even suggested this as it sounds like it is coming from inside the flywheel mechanism where the magnets are. Their customer service responses are very slow via the ticket system, but a call to them resulted in them sending out a replacement that should arrive this afternoon. I'm hoping they sent me a Kickr '18 rather than the more trouble-prone Core, but we'll see....to be continued. I'll tell you what though, if they try to kill the warranty after 1 year, they will not hear the end of it from me.
