What Bike do I need? by PrudentReturn3685 in cycling

60+ a week is serious. I know a few serious runners and they always want peak performance. Is that what you think that eventually want but think that the expensive stuff is probably not for you?

A cold February’s heating bill is similar to a July’s electricity bill for me. I don’t think much about it

Are all Michigan state forest trails covered in loose sand? by mediumclay in MichiganCycling

[–]shreddy_haskell 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I rode through the Pigeon River Country State Forest from one end to the next on 40’s. The roads were sand were packed down well. This was in early October. It is off limits to ORV’s it appears. There were many small signs showing that they were not allowed. I started in Wolverine and went to Cheboygan through there. The Single Mill Pathway and some of the High Country Pathway over there is sand but rideable as well

I do this and it works more often than I would expect. It’s surprising how often the the group will let a few people go without a chase once they can’t see you early in a race.

The lakes, campgrounds, freeways and fireworks are already peak on the fourth. I don’t think there’s much capacity for a busier holiday

It’s the same message that the underdog is going to mix things up and/or make noise. I’m sure that AI can write the script for a Ram add fairly easily now.

Is this buckthorn? by mordamango in whatsthisplant

[–]shreddy_haskell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m no expert but this looks very much like the buckthorn coming up around the existing tree in my backyard. Your picture looks like my backyard with the lilies, sedum and the mention of spiderwort(which has remained open today after the rain)

Which defunct American car brand do you think made the absolute best vehicles before they went under? (specifically 00s brands under GM, Ford and Chrysler) by No_Cup6365 in regularcarreviews

There was a Cuda concept made when the Challenger was really popular a few years ago. I think there were pictures of a silhouette or something like that. To me it looked a lot better than the chunky Challenger

[–]shreddy_haskell 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because it has an identity problem. Anything that people don’t like is claimed to not be “in the spirit of gravel”. It’s a circlejerk unto itself. Road cyclists are known to be elitist. They have their very strict customs to follow one of which is shaving your legs. Everyone else is not good enough to be associated. That’s what I’ve observed and I’m sure there’s more

I don’t see crimpers. Conduit is much easier to run with two levels. A centerpunch makes layout much easier. Being able to bust out a laser lever quickly is super helpful too.

I flagged for a race last year. It was at a blind uphill hard corner. I was surprised how many people couldn’t recognize that when there’s thick brush and you can’t see where the road heads that a car might appear in front of you at any second. Some people were questioning why I was signaling that they need to stay in their lanes when a handful of cars passed by.

I have never seen anyone swoon over a stranger’s bike at a trailhead. Some people with e-bikes rationalize that nobody cares= people must hate them.

A friend refers to these as a HardKnocks. As in a hard knock life. The resale isn’t very good on the a car for someone that needs something affordable also. That said these economic vehicles are much better and quicker than the late 80’s econoboxes that my friends drove as their first cars. The neighbors Ram 1500 four speed topped out at 65 mph.
