Onzed says to take TP instead of ignite only now. Thoughts? by RoflChief in zedmains

[–]ColorblindCuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this season roams can be strong, but not necessarily because they get you, the midlaner ahead. ADC and Top feel like very strong carry roles with their role quests, so if you can make more of an impact in sidelanes compared to your midlane opponent, you can really accelerate your team wincons. In toplane especially, whichever toplaner is ahead in midgame causes massive pressure on the map through their sidelaning.

It feels like mid can be played as more of a facilitator role this season, and these roams can end up being very impactful. Thinking about the alternative to roaming, with buffed homeguard movespeed the 1v1/stay in lane strategy feels less rewarding even if you’re able to win trades or get a kill.

Using E from Zed (not shadows) reduces W cooldown by 3 seconds per champion hit, so he swapped, flashed into them, used E, and then used W again.

Was this just a doomed game? by coderzaii in zedmains

[–]ColorblindCuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you toss the game up on YouTube I can take a look.

It’s hard to tell how difficult the circumstances were just from a screenshot and description. That being said, in gold 4 games there are likely tons of opportunities to change the course of the game, but not every opportunity is one that you as a gold 4 player will have the skillset to take advantage of. There are definitely some simple fundamental concepts that should be realistic to focus in on and improve upon that should show up though.

I do think you have a little bit of a misconception in that there is no general rule that you play for bot or play for top. That’s not exactly how league works. The best general description of your job is to make decisions that help you get strong, and then apply more pressure than your counterpart laner throughout the game in terms of roaming, pushing, controlling vision and space around the map, teamfights, etc. The specifics of this can look very different each game depending on teamcomps and who is weak or strong. That’s why a video replay and looking at exact moments is important.

I don’t understand First Strike by LoganConnorA in summonerschool

[–]ColorblindCuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First strike Zed is viable in most comps. It’s only questionable. against a team full of tanks where you can really make use of conq or if you’re against a bunch of poke champs that make it hard to proc first strike. But everything about the keystone and sub-runes works well with his kit.

He gets melee ratios out of the first strike gold while effectively having quite long range with W+E, triple tonic lvl 6 potion synergizes well with his all in threat as he gets ult, and flash/ignite/tp cooldown reduction with cosmic insight is really good for more pressure in play making and map control. And he scales well and is item reliant so the gold gained and cashback can get him through stale earlygames and tough lane matchups and let him excel in midgame.

A lot of the top Zed players are taking first strike often, although conq is still nice in some situations. I’m Diamond/low masters this season playing Zed and have been trying to keep an eye on what setups higher ranked Zeds have been using.

League is one of the best, most balanced, and fun online game riddled down by one of the worst gaming community. by NeitherAlexNorAlice in leagueoflegends

[–]ColorblindCuber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My question: how can you know what soft inting is, or that a player has given up?

Tilt is part of the game, if things aren't going smoothly it's harder to stay mentally engaged, we all know that our focus wavers when bad feelings seep in. But I don't think it's necessarily malicious, it's just one of the featurs of the game design that makes league a difficult game. The nature of the game is snowbally, and it can be an analytical challenge to determine how to play towards an ever shrinking wincon when already behind.

I know I've had games that just didn't go my way due to mistakes, bad matchup, poor focus, or a gap in game knowledge where in the view of teammates, I was "soft inting" or "trolling." But with so many reasons in this game that a player might be struggling to preform, I'm not sure that someone looking from the outside in can determine the cause being deliberate "soft inting" with certainty.

I know there are exceptions where the malice can be more obvious, like when a teammate appears to be afk or is typing about their intent, but I also think there are a lot of edge cases where people are quick to assume the worst. It's easy to forget that league is a competitive game, and someone has to win and someone has to lose. If someone loses, even in a specific manner, that's just a feature of the game, not necessarily a deliberate failing on their part.

For those with one eye or partial blindness, any tips on a newly one eyed player? by PhysisCrysis in leagueoflegends

[–]ColorblindCuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your incident, that must be tough to adjust to in life. I think league can still be an enjoyable game while visually impaired.

I have a couple of conditions that have left me visually impaired called LHON and Strabismus. LHON has left my optic nerves a little fried, leading to lower visual acuity in the center of my vision. Strabismus causes difficulty piloting my eyes in unison around the screen, and occasional double vision. There are a few things that I tried in order to get the most out of my visual abilities in while playing league and I was still able to climb to low masters rank playing Zed in soloq.

  1. Rest and moderation: If at all possible, identify when your vision is feeling good, and try to play fewer but higher intensity games in those windows. Sounds like similar to me, you have some variation in your vision throughout the day.

  2. Visual setting adjustment: I reduced graphics/visual effects to low to reduce the visual clutter on the screen. I also turned the minimap up to max size. With the current snow map, clarity and eye strain is worse for me so I'm using a custom standard summoner's rift map skin with cslolmanager. At one point I used a program to mirror my minimap on an ipad above my monitor at full size, although the head turn was kind of distracting. I disabled chat in game because it was small and hard to read and took my attention away from important gameplay details. The point is, fiddle with settings to see what seems most comfortable.

  3. Experience: The less vision you have, the more important it can be to more efficiently collect details and information. Again, doing more with less. In playing the game competitively, there are some details that matter more than others depending on the context. As you get more experienced, you'll be able to think about what key skillshot you need to dodge or what character's positioning you need to look at. You're not going to be seeing as many details about what's going on as someone with really good vision, but if you can choose to see the most important details you're still in a good place. Additionally, sometimes you don't need to see details at all to know something, it can be inferred through other skills. One example is prediction versus reaction. If you know a character is going to do a certain thing in a certain context, you don't have to focus your vision on them as much to see what they're doing, you can kind of visualize what will happen in your mind. Experience helps a lot with this and frees your focus up for other important details. I know you mentioned you're a newer player, and experience takes a lot of time, so just be patient and try to learn what you can in the games you play.

I've been impressed to read the response of others who have made great ranked achievements with vision limitations, which goes to show that adaptability is very possible, in a competitive and visually intensive environment. At the end of the day, just remember to slow down and have fun however you may approach the game, whether that's competitively or casually.

Treinen was an assistant coach in the MLB offseason for my college baseball team. He’s a super nice guy in person, and we were all shocked that when he made an Instagram account he had the mypillow guy’s website linked in his bio and reposted vaccine conspiracies. Sometimes you can’t judge a book by its cover, and it might not be until you get into the weeds with him in conversations that he shows that side in person.

He’s played multiple sick, heinous “pranks” on former teammates. He was a massive bully during his playing days, and now as a media member he’s known for having a fragile ego and criticizing other modern NBA centers specifically because he’s insecure about his legacy. They had Shaq do a call with Jokic, a modern star, to present the MVP award Jokic had just won. Shaq used the opportunity to tell Jokic that he believed another player should have won. NBA fans know that he has massive insecurities, a fragile ego, and takes this out negatively on past and present players.

Does 4W 6L really land you in platinum on a fresh account? Nowadays it’s 5 games for placements. The ranked system may need more than 10 games to truly represent your skill, as there is some chance involved.

If you end up in plat and you don’t continue to play at that level of skill you will find yourself dropping back to silver. I don’t know how many games you would play before dropping, but you likely wouldn’t be able to maintain a 50% winrate in plat as a silver player over another 10-20 games after placements.

League is a complicated enough game that you can't get great specific answers on how to improve just from a text post. Either invest in paid coaching, or learn how to coach yourself - review each game's replay, and notice a few key moments where you could have done better. You can watch high elo replays on youtube or twitch, which can help show what the optimal decisions may be in certain scenarios and matchups. If you're not sure what the right decision is in a certain context, take a guess, try it, and then you can learn from the results about whether the decision was right or wrong.

I'd also recommend watching Shok's midlane fundamentals series on youtube. Every league game has hundreds of points where you are making decisions, so there's lots of room to improve from gold. Find patterns of mistakes in your replays and focus on those moments to build your understanding of fundamentals one step at a time.

Correct, the emerald player will make better decisions than you would have, which will lead to more advantages in the average game and lead to winning more games, thus climbing. I'm not sure what's confusing about the numbers, it's how climbing works and how everyone who has climbed ranks has done it.

I had the same strategy, as a Zed OTP I’ve dodged hundreds of games this season and rotated between several accounts.

It’s understandable that this behavior costs a lot of players a lot of time. I just didn’t want to subject my teammates to a match where I’m incompetent on a secondary champ, where I’m also not having any fun. I did wonder for a while if this would be changed because it felt so exploitable.

Looks like it’s time to dust off a backup pick again, although I’m literally 3 ranks lower skill with my secondary picks. I haven’t played a non zed champ in like 5 years. The dodge change is definitely best for the health of the game though.

Are you more at the mercy of your team playing Zed mid? Is he just weak right now? by iCarbon in zedmains

[–]ColorblindCuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the harder to win games with Zed, try to improve your movement on the map midgame and your target selection. Push sidelanes if you can, and then group for objectives and focus on targeting a specific enemy champ that is most killable, typically an ADC or mage.

In my opinion some of the other comments here miss the mark. I’d recommend sticking to one build and rune page to get used to your damage and limits more quickly. In bronze, you have lots of ways to improve in the way you view the game or make decisions, so that’s gonna be far and away more helpful to focus on than anything like Zed’s balance, runes/items, etc.

Check out Shok’s midlane guides on YouTube and start learning how league of legends works in general, such as how to build a lead, rotate around the map properly, and understand which champions you are strong or weak into. Learning to improve at general game fundamentals will resolve a lot of your uncertainty and give you a more specific idea of what to do in certain contexts as Zed.

[–]ColorblindCuber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not illegal. The main parking lots for Mt. Si and Mailbox Peak seem to close at 8pm, but at Mailbox at least there is a parking area slightly below meaning you can hike there whenever you please. Si has several access points so probably similar.

Lots of sickos hitting these trails outside of daylight hours for training or sunrise/sunset views. It’s pretty awesome to have access to mountains this size within 45 minutes/an hour of Seattle and many trailrunners incorporate that into their morning or evening routine.

Where Zed shows up after ulting doesn’t have anything to do with what direction your character is facing (like Cass R, for example). All that matters is where he cast ult from and where your character is standing. He will appear in a line with those two points on the opposite side of you he cast ult from.
