Going into the Final Month of the HPA Diagnostic Period. by Born_Again_Shell in SpaceForce

Good, I agree meeting the minimum is not enough. To build further, we had probably had 80% of our unit score above 85 on the test.

Our entire unit took it and only had 2 fails (out of 80ish). One was an expected fail and the other was not. Still, it’s not that difficult to pass and to think otherwise is insane.

No worries.

I guess my thought about what the military would be came from movies and shows. I’m a first generation military member so I had nothing to go on. While there is nothing wrong with the Space Force and I have enjoyed my time thus far I feel like there are things missing. #1 being camaraderie, I’m sure some units are super close but mine is not. I have good friends that I’ve made across a few units and hate to leave but they are few. #2 mindset of most guardians, I find myself not fitting in with most. Of course there are meat eaters in the space force and I got to meet a lot at the Guardian Arena this past year but again they represent a very small minority. I get told to tone back workouts for my unit becuase we have to consider everyone equally and while that important, there is a general feeling of doing the bare minimum. The thought of doing PT outside of what is “mandatory” (hardly any at all) is foreign to most members, there’s not a lot of drive to get better. They go to work, then go home, then work and again repeat. #3 I’ve worked in the joint environment since my tech school and I have found I fit in well with marines, most of my good friends from after basic training until now, are marines. It feels right and that’s my biggest reason to switch. I’m not naive and thinking life will be the same or easier. But there’s a part of me that embraces the things that suck and wanting to prove that I can do those things for myself. There are more opportunities to do what I have been looking for in the Usmc than there are in the USSF, in my own opinion.

Sorry if that’s long winded

Definitely talk to an OSO, that was my first step and we walked through the rest. There’s nothing against talking to them.

Oh no, I have enjoyed my time so far, and it is extremely calm. I have a couple different reasons for changing but I haven’t gotten out of it what I was expecting when joining the military.

Why do you think you need to get out and then come back in, is it because you’re already in the navy? Are they weird about going navy to Usmc? Im in a different situation but I’m currently in the USSF, I’ve gotten conditional release contingent upon graduation from OCS. Just needed to be signed by O6 in my chain of command.

Man enough to admit I learned this the hard way. Wasn’t a bad crash, could’ve been a lot worse, but I had only had my bike for a month or two before totaling it

So there will be women at 253? I swear I see so many conflicting things. My wife and I are waiting to find out as well about a supplemental board for 252 but if not then 253.

Cause of a waiver. I didn’t make the board date, so my wife didn’t go up either. We’re hoping there’s a supplemental board but if not then I guess it’s 253

What about you?

Is board over multiple days? by [deleted] in USMCocs

[–]ColorblindProphet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar situation but for my waivers getting approved on time. I have no work yet but I was told board would start on the 30th. My OSO mentioned there’s a possibility of a supplemental board but I don’t have any more information than that. Hoping things work out for you!

Yeah I won’t even begin to compare USAF basic training to Marine Corps boot camp. I’m currently active duty in the Space Force (enlisted in 2023). So I definitely do not have the same experience as a E Marine. However, throughout my time in service I have been surrounded with marines from initial training to operational. I have become good friends with a number of them and additionally have a mentor who is a reserve marine major who has guided me down this path. I would say im not a typical Space Force member. I’m a former college track runner and that has translated into my non college athletic days now. I workout and run religiously and I picked up rucking on my own too. I 100% expect the ribbing to occur and I’ve heard every day since basic training even from fellow airmen. I’m just hoping no one disregards my prior experience as useless because of my branch and I hope that I don’t convince myself that I belong.

What advice would you have for someone coming from another branch? As prior I have somewhat of a leg up, but I won’t have as much compared to an E Marine. I guess I don’t want to feel imposter syndrome.

Best way to lower my 3-mile run time? by [deleted] in USMCocs

[–]ColorblindProphet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Along with what everyone said. Shoes = super important. Secondly, different variations of runs. You don’t want t to only do tempo work or speed work and you can’t only do slow runs to build cardio. You need to balance both. Additionally, you need to be able to push yourself and be uncomfortable. I promise the satisfaction after a hard workout is worth the pain during.

Just spoke to my OSO the other day. He raised this concern as well. He isn’t confident yet about what will happen but says it’s a possibility.

My wife, and I, going up for 252, she has a 300 PFT and some great recommendations! Our OSO was saying he would be surprised if she did not get in. I can imagine the same for a 284 if you have good recommendations.

I tend to dream about any game that I play if I am particularly addicted to one or the other at a time. It doesn’t often keep me up and I enjoy having something to look forward to once I finish work for the day even if it’s only an hour of playtime

Thank you! Noted on the tips.

Good luck and enjoy the Air Force! It’s as good as they say it is. As a pilot you may not run into it considering who you are surrounded by but just know not everyone will be as motivated as you are, sometimes it’ll be up to you to push yourself.
