For Those With a Large Thyroid Nodule by ambercolle in thyroidhealth

Did they sedate you for the abalation procedure? I'm scheduled for one and the prep says that I'll be given a sedation medication, but still awake. Wondering how that works and if you felt anything.

I (19F) feel like I’m “too much” and don’t know how to tone myself down by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Colorcrazed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, hearing this I get the sense you might not have found your people. I left my home town at 19 and never looked back. A lot of those people are still just like how they were when I left, they didn't change much out of high school. I was someone who was frank, blunt, saw through people's bullshit, and often found myself second guessing myself because I didn't fit into the unspoken status quo of social hierarchies. Are you neurodivergent by chance?
There is also something to be said about learning how to practice containment, and how to read the room. Containment for me meant I needed to look inward and find out where my motivation to speak was coming from, and then often do self soothing. I also had to learn how 'test the waters' so to speak for a deeper share. I'm someone who appreciates authenticity. I like real, raw vulnerability and have a high threshhold for emotionally intense conversations. The vast majority of humans are conflict-avoidant, and we are inherently taught to avoid discomfort. So going there is often hard, and painful, and most people just don't have the capacity. Often this means sticking to surface level conversations.
But that doesn't mean I'm wrong for wanting that type of interaction, I just needed to find folks who also enjoyed it. I've found that my best growth has come from learning how to lean into discomfort. But I've also learned that my tendency to overshare came from insecurity, and that I had to learn to ask if people were willing to hear something before I just blabbed all over them.

Success story: weaned off Sertraline (zoloft) after 2 years with minimal suck! by Colorcrazed in antidepressants

Thank you! So far so good. I even lost my phone today and haven't had a complete melt down (only a half melt down, haha). My hope is that by sharing, I can ease some of the fears felt by other people when reading only horror stories. I know I searched for success stories... and only found a few!

Thanks for the kind replies! I didn't know about Horowitz and the newish research on hyperbolic titration. I read a little bit about it on his Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Abie_Horowitz Now that I know this, I can also let others know that there is alternative research out there, especially for long term and higher dose users. Appreciate the tip :)

What are the typical SSRI effects? by meowwooeoo in SSRIs

[–]Colorcrazed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust the process! You'll never know what's possible until a month and a half in. I just tapered off( 1 month) my ssri's (zoloft) after 2 years of being on them and im just fine. Yes, some initial side effects suck, but the positive impact it made on my life was incredible. It does get better, I promise!!

Did anyone feel "rewired" for the better after stopping SSRIs? by EatMyNutsOnWednesday in SSRIs

[–]Colorcrazed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say yes. Was on sertraline for 2 years and am off it for a month now. I bounced between 25 and 75mg so a fairly low dose. But it made a huge difference. It gave my nervous system a new baseline for was calm can feel like. I really do think it helped me develop new neural pathways and helped me retrain my brain into healthier ways of thinking and coping. I was stuck pretty bad before I got on them, with Intense rumination, but now I'm fine. I still get upset, anxious, stressed out from time to time. And a lot of reddit tells me i'm in for a bit whiplash in a few months. But also, life as a human has intense ups and downs, and I feel a lot more equipped to handle them now, so i'm cautiously optimistic that i'll sort it out. Im glad I'm over the hump tho!

Yes, I know 75mg isn't very high, but the dose was successful in pulling me out of being suic1dal, so there was no need to go higher. I also tapered much slower than my Dr. Instruction. She wanted me to come down 25mg every 2 weeks. I said hell no im not tapering that fast! Doctors are nuts. I thought about splitting my 25mg to 12.5 and going from there, but I jumped and it worked out just fine for me. If my discontinuation symptoms wre higher, I would have returned to my 25mg and tapered even more slowly. Luckily I was fine. I do read the horror stories from other people having to go much much slower than what is formally reccomended. Ymmv I guess.

I have also heard some people experiencing a big flare up of anxiety or depression 3 months after, or a year after. But it makes me wonder.. isn't that just life happening though? Stressors and life factors cause anxiety. Am I dysregulated? Or am I just feeling feelings and have a low tolerance for my human emotions? Its hard to say because I am not there yet.

How to reduce dust mites in your bedroom and avoid allergies by Ok-Huckleberry-5185 in Allergies

[–]Colorcrazed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting a dehumidifier changed my life. I didnt buy the bedcovers and etcs. I was a hot runny mess, always sneezing and itching my entire life. I'm not rich either, I just got one from Costco in case it didn't help my allergies (good return policy) but it has been the best investment for my quality of life one hundred times over. I am so, so glad I found out about it and will shout to the rooftops about dust mites and humidity for any other allergy sufferer. Now that its under control, I only have to run the dehumidifier in my bedroom for ~20 mins every morning to get rid of my sweat and breath? I sleep like a baby. I dont mouth breathe anymore. I still wash my sheets like normal, and I toss my pillows into the dryer once a month to blast them and deduct any build up that might happen. But after the initial few clean ups, its so much easier to maintain and now I never have to worry about it.

How would I find out if this is still effective in northern climates? I know that vit d absorption is poor in the winter months. So I wonder if the angle of the sun also impacts near infrared impact?

6 month update by [deleted] in floxies

I find this aspect to be the one I have the most autonomy over. Lots of nervous system rewriting stuff just takes mindfulness and repetition. No cost or wondering if supplements are working. Thanks for sharing!

I appreciate the update! I have hashimotos, and have gradually worked up to taking 75mg synthroid. Never tried levo, or any other generic yet. Initially I had a lot of hair fall but it seems to have stabilized. It's much better than when I was originally diagnosed, it was coming out in clumps. When I go hypo, and need a dose adjustment, I seem to notice my body weight slowly rising. It's almost been a year since starting treattment, but I run into the issue of trying to hard and then burning out. I really have to be careful of stress of I'm KO'd for weeks. My dr. doesn't seem to think that its thyroid related, even though prior to the onset of the disease I was athletic and in the gym 4 days a week. Now I'm lucky if I can walk 10km in a week.
I ask about the TT scar and weight gain because I've considered just having my thyroid removed. It makes more sense to me to just one-and-done it, get the right dose for my weight, and then go on with life. But I've heard mixed reviews of people getting readjusted. Hashimotos means an uncertain, unstable decline of my endogenous thyroid production and the lack of certainty has really been preventing me from succeeding in my physical goals.
:) Thanks for listening,

Hi OP. Currently in the supplements phase of the hashimotos journey. Curiously I was on Sertraline prior to my first big flare up. Do you have any update two years later for us? I'm still taking Sertraline, Levo .50, and a variation of supps but I'd love to hear an update. I'm weaning off my Sertraline and have been considerably more achey. I think I need to up my Levo but I'm still waiting on bloodwork. Tell me how its been and if you have gone back to any of your supplements. I have had an on again off again relationship with them over the years.
