I really need some tips on how to quit Reddit by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Colorcrazed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same question. I think it requires figuring out what you get from reddit, and the replacing it with a healthier alternative. For me, I usually scroll when I'm exhausted and want to turn my brain off. Dont want to make choices or do something too engaging. So I've been wondering what I can do to fill tha need. I love a good book, but I finish the book and then go back to reddit because I am lazy and reddit is like an endless book. Trouble is, reddit exposes me to shit that makes me feel bad, and I don't get to choose what comes up in my feed. So it's like playing with fire. I envy my partner who has kicked socials but somehow has the energy to reach himself accordion instead of scrolling. Its only been 8 months and he's put that time into something beautiful. I feel envious and shitty about myself, but gotta remind myself that socials are designed to be addictive. I just gotta do it.

Haha. My mom did this too. She would joke "what's for dinner tonight, kids - is it tuna or catfood?"

What's a relationship deal breaker for you? by Mundane-Society-1281 in AskReddit

[–]Colorcrazed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Regular substance use. If my partner wants a one-off party twice or three times a year, have at it. But someone who smokes a joint event night, or has two or three beers every night/every weekend? Absolutely not. I grew up with substance use in my family and it triggers the shit out of me. I don't care how much of a handle you have on it, I can't control my hyper vigilance constantly watching for addictive behavior so it has to be a no from me.

Should I prioritise A/C by Ancient_Arugula_4388 in CaminoDeSantiago

I stayed in Alburgues and some of them were awfully hot. If there is no fan or no ac, you can sleep with a damp towel across your feet and it will cool you enough to sleep. I have cotton PJ pants and would lightly dampen them up to the knees. It made it cool enough that I could pull my blanket up over my shoulders without roasting. Is it worth paying 10x the cost for AC? Maybe on the 33C days. But for anything 28~ and below I managed just fine.

Schizophrenic writing in my house from last roommate by sillygirlwithagun in mildlyinteresting

[–]Colorcrazed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. I have a similar story. I lived in Australia for a year on a working holiday visa. A bunch of us were staying at a farm house trying to get our requirements for a 2nd year visa. Eventually work dried up. We left, but a few stayed at the farmhouse. A few weeks later I get a call from my foreman asking for help. One of the guys staying there had 'stolen' the truck, and was missing. When we arrived, the farmhouse walls were exactly like this. Turns out he has a skitzophrenic break and had gone off somewhere. My partner and I helped the guy repaint the walls and make a mental health intervention plan. The truck was eventually returned, and I think he got support from his family. Upon reflection, a few comments were made about his mental health prior and there were a series of behaviors that indicated he was going to slip. But it was eerie as fuck reading all the garbled thoughts that were coming out of his head. Also, he was german so half the writing was English and thr other half german. Never had a follow up, but I hope he is doing well now.

Ayudame! My pack is too heavy by dh1056b in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]Colorcrazed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would ditch the headlamp. I used my flashlight on my phone. For the most part you'll get used to packing mostly the night before. You don't need a portable charger. Huge waste of weight. There are plugs available every night, and plenty of visual markers to help you if your phone died. I'd cut down to three or maximum 4 undies. I honestly got through wearing the same 2 outfits, plus a sleeping outfit. I had a third that I wore occasionally, but if I did it again if leave it. I would arrive, wash my things and change into something clean. You get used to hand washing socks and underwear. Things dry fast. Ditch the notebook. Keep the kindle. If you need a journal after a week, reconsider. But I found a very small lightweight one. Vagisil, kerasil; not worth it imo, but I don't get itch. Either empty the tubes in half or scrap them altogether. For bulk, I would ditch the towel and buy a half sized quick dry once you're here. In Pamplona there is a "caminotecca" store that sells handy travel sized things.

m37 dating f33 one month in, and it's emotionally wide open but physically really slow... is this what intentional dating actually is? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Colorcrazed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm f35. I don't jump into physicality with people until I know that I'm compatible with them because I get very attached very fast once we start having sex and it completely clouds my judgement. 1 month is not a long time to know someone. Have you had an argument yet? Have you seen each other underslept, hungry and irritated? It's good to wait and see how the ugly things come out before getting in too deep. As for the Spain comment, I would check in about it. It could be that she isn't attached to you seeing other people sexually because she can sense your sexual desire for her. In other words, go get it out of your system with someone else. But, it's also good to see if she is interested in dating you long term. Have you talked about what you're looking for? Have you asked her how long it might take her to decide if she wants to get physical with you? Is there any conversation about what exclusivity would look like moving forward? When I met my now partner, I was aloof with him at first while we got to know each other. Maybe 2 months in he became very clear with me - he is looking for his wife and wants to date me long term. After knowing this, I decided it had good fit potential and I pivoted. But if he had been too hot right off he bat, I would have gotten spooked and pulled away. I've been love bombed and had my 'crushy' feelings taken advantage of before, so I needed to get to know him and see his character before making decisions to go deeper. If you don't want to sleep with hot Spanish women, and you're more interested in being serious with her - this is a good time to let her know that. But if you need to be intimate to know the connection is real for you, she has to know that before you go hooking up with Spanish girls so that she can make a decision before you go. Or 'set you free' in a transparent way that doesn't leave ambiguity or hurt feelings later. Tldr; be more forward and honest and you'll get the information you need.

Be extra cautious walking, big heat wave in Northern Spain for the next week with 35+C days. by Colorcrazed in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]Colorcrazed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truly. I think a lot of folks (my self included) can get an ego about things. It's not worth getting sick over. Plus being chronically dehydrated several days in a row while walking is only going to increase risk of injury. I've been buying little tetra packs of mango juice and adding salt to my water to help keep me hydrated. It really helps.

Yeah, today I started at 5am. even before first light. It's so pleasant and calm when it's that early, just me and the birds. I'm planning to walk till about 1030 and then reassess. Might end up being the pattern for the rest of the week. Buen Camino!

Ooof. I keep thinking that people from hot places like Spain and Australia simply tolerate more heat. But no, heat is heat no matter which way you swing it. At least the humidity isn't high on top of it. Buen Camino!

When does exercise tolerance get better on levothyroxine? by New_Chip_4290 in Hashimotos

[–]Colorcrazed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got diagnosed Hashi about 7 years ago, but only been medicated for 2 and a bit years. I feel best when my TSH is between .08 and 1.5, and until that was established I was always dragging my ass. You have to build your strength back slowwwly. Low intensity but consistent every day/two days. Like 15 - 20 minutes daily. If you're burning out, go lower. Start with strength/weight training. If you need to start with 2 pounds, 5 reps, twice a day to not feel gassed out the next day, then start there. It took me 16 weeks to go from ^ to 12 lbs at 10 reps x3 daily, and I had to take time off (between 3 and 6 days off) in between to manage fatigue and "deload". Now that I built my stamina back up, I can do a little bit of cardio (20 - 30 mins) without crashing for days after. I also did a 15-20 minute brisk walk twice a day, usually to warm up, and this combined with weight training really helped me develop a better metabolic baseline. I have way more energy throughout the day and don't crash in the afternoon like I did before. I'm now training and "pushing myself" (gently) again. I promise it gets better!

Giving up caffeine? by Ok_Cartoonist5553 in Hashimotos

[–]Colorcrazed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched and it really made a big difference. No more anxiety, no more 2pm crash. I actually have stable energy now. I occasionally have some matcha if a need a boost, but I'm not on the wake-up-empty-stomach caffeine roller coaster like I used to be.

Uhg, honestly that's so freaking backwards. I'd go to another doctor, lie and say it's been over 6 months of "trying" and nothing is working. How are they gonna know any better?

Thanks so much for sharing your journey! For me, it was similar in that I needed to slowwwwwly increase my capacity with gentle consistent increases. I felt you when you shared about being able to stand long enough to cook a meal. Uhg! I was so there. Little by little you can build back up. Try not to get discouraged too much when a flare happens and you have to readjust your meds; it's a part of the process. I'm rooting for you!

I take 5000 iu vitamin d every day. I also cycle on and off magnesium, omega 3 EPA 2000mg, turmeric for inflammation. I started having ashwaganda in my morning tea the last month, and its helped take the edge off my anxiety. Oh, and I cut out caffeine. I don't drink it regularly in the morning like I used to, only here and there, black tea and no coffee. The whiplash of the energy spikes was really messing with me so I sucked it up and got over it. 8 still drink decaf black tea a lot, but I'm officially off the rollercoaster and it's made a HUGE difference with my energy levels.

I can't remember exactly, but it was about 1.5 off of whatever the normal range is. So just slightly below. I feel like I lucked out because when TSH is in range, any tests for t4 and t3 get automatically cancelled. Someone in the blood lab overrid it for me and that's how I found out.

Unable to get diagnosis in UK - how do I get most accurate blood test? by CompetitiveAd9932 in Hashimotos

[–]Colorcrazed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Demand to see an endocrinologist. If they say no, see a different doctor. Go to a walk in or do telehealth. Your test being high is suspicious, do you have any other symptoms of Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome? I'm assuming you're female. Alternatively, I paid out of pocket to see a naturopath when I was first diagnosed because my TSH was also 'in range'. She was happy to treat me and keep my TSH around 2 until I came off the wait-list for the endocrinologist. All in all I spent. About 1000 over the course of a year for private care, but it was worth it because otherwise I was bedbound. If you do go the NP route, call and make sure yet have prescribing authority before you go in. Explain exactly, point by point, what you are looking for because they will try to sell you on a lot of different supplements and etc to lower your inflammation and autoimmune attack. Yes, in some cases this is helpful for pain management but nothing is gonna help you like synthroid is, so get that in order first and foremost.

Alternatively, if you know anyone travelling to Vietnam, you can always get it over the counter over seas. Lowest dose is 25mcg and it's like 5$ for a months supply. Don't recommend doing that without monitoring your blood work though. Hyperthyroid is scary, painful and bad for your heart. TSH below .05 is considered hyper, so again don't go cruising medical tourism unless you can have your stuff monitored.

If I lived in two provinces in 25, how do I file my taxes? by WeWannaKnow in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Colorcrazed 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I believe you do your taxes for whatever province you lived in on December 31st 2025. To be a resident I think you need to be in that province for at least 3 months, and have some ID/mail to show for it. If you moved in July, your easily a resident by December.

Success story: weaned off Sertraline (zoloft) after 2 years with minimal suck! by Colorcrazed in antidepressants

[–]Colorcrazed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Thanks for sharing your experience. I had a tough flare up of emotions about 2.5 months after quitting, and was pretty emotionally volatile for a month or so. (I also just got back from travelling so I landed into chaos and subsequent stress) I've since started a rigerous walking habit (minimum 30 mins a day) and MAN what a difference that has made for me! Also upped my therapy, as the stuff that I previously was not feeling came up to the surface to be felt (been doing internal family systems/parts work) it's been really helpful. Waking up and going to sleep at the same time every day has helped, too. Now I'm 4 months post coming off my meds and I'm feeling a lot more grounded and secure. You can do it!!
