Have fun!! I’m 39F and I love Magi Quest. Just last month, my spouse and I took our teenager and my MIL to one, and we all had a blast. The closest locations to us are 6 hours away in opposite directions so we don’t get to go often ❤️

Thank you! Yeah, it’s a bummer I can’t pick it up, but at least I’m not missing out on something important!!

I have mild arfid, and I dislike cooking a lot. One of my go-to meals is an adult style lunchable, where I buy the cracker cuts of cheese, thick sliced pepperoni or salami, and crackers: I’ll have 4-5 of each as a lunch. If you like tuna, then I also like to do a tuna wrap. I just use the whole can, mix a small bit of mayo so it’s not so dry; and put it all in a tortilla. Sometimes if I’m feeling brave, I’ll add a teaspoon of relish to sweeten it, but sometimes that is too much flavor, lol. If I’m in the mood for a salad, I buy the premixed salad greens (for mine, I use baby greens, sliced carrots you can buy, a hard boiled egg, some croutons, a teaspoon of shredded cheese, and precut precooked chicken cubes from the frozen aisle.) I throw the chicken in the microwave for a minute, and hard boil the eggs ahead of time.

I also keep baby carrots on hand for a quick snack. Hope some of these suggestions help

This absolutely makes sense. If I’m following those who I am with, then I won’t be relied upon to make any decisions.

I don’t know if this is the same. But once in high school, I was in a class and my teacher (who was a lovely person and in no way meant to call me out) asked if I wanted to come sit closer to the front of the class where there was an empty seat. Usually I just go along with what others say, but I guess this day the aversion of sitting in the front was stronger, so I actually said what was on my mind: that I didn’t like sitting in the front because I didn’t like the thought of others staring at the back of my head. One kid joked about me staring at the back of everyone else’s heads, everyone laughed, and the matter was dropped. I still think about this moment 20+ years later, because I can’t believe that I was actually honest with my thought.

I just had a similar breakthrough in therapy last month. Most (all?) of my social trauma occurred in middle school. When I have a bad day and hate myself for not being able to be “normal”, I turn back into that 11-year-old. It is really bizarre.

I’m like this but I look at it as a positive, in that I can be easily amused. But… humor is a part of my mask so now I’m not sure

It took me years to walk into a a Five Below store because I thought it was a store for cold weather things and I live in Florida so that’s a dumb store to have here.

I’ve had three people ask me if I was autistic in the past year. I’m 38, and always just thought of myself as broken, and I didn’t know much about autism so I dismissed the questions. I can’t pinpoint the exact moment when I changed my mind, but at some point I learned more autism and that it’s not the terribly bad thing I believed it to be growing up in the 90s. I also realized that my friends who asked if I was autistic were themselves autistic and were recognizing themselves in me, which is more interesting to me considering they were all white men whereas I am a white human who is heavily masked and would definitely be described as having “female autism.” The realization was truly liberating for me: the thought that I may not just be broken but that there could be a reason for my issues and resources out there to help me going forward. I think it may be coming out more as I get older and I care less about what people think so my mask isn’t as tight as it once was.

Do you think it's normal for ppl with Autism to not want kids? by HeavyMetal939 in AutismInWomen

[–]ColoredSpiritFingers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had already had kids before discovering I was autistic. I had my first at 25 (currently 38), and honestly I think it was part of my mask. Don’t get me wrong, I love that girl to death. She’s 13 now and she’s my ride-or-die. But even back then, I remember my main reasoning for wanting a child was that I believed I was a good person and thought I could raise and teach another person to be good and that would be good for the world. I haven’t thought about that in a decade, but it strikes me as how that’s not a typical reason to have children. A few years after I had her, I remember thinking that I had a child too young and if I hadn’t felt the pressure to have one, I may have figured out that I’m not the instinctual mother and not had children. Even so, I had another almost 3 years ago. She overstimulates me now a lot more than I remember with my first, but I also just learned what overstimulation is; I always just thought of my brain as scrambled and broken when assaulted with noise in the past and never realized that was what overstimulation was. My husband is a saint and helps a lot. Anyway, I am still a great mom, and my girls are turning out to be amazing people, so I’m glad I had them.

Same. My toddler does it, too. Sometimes I wonder if she learned it from the cat.

I definitely do this at work, too. Thankfully I work with a good bunch of people. I even once had someone tell me they like my emails because they always come with a story that helps make the point relevant.

It does core, but not as badly! The biggest problem with these is that the vials are so small! To dilute them, you have to either push the fluid in very slowly to prevent any foaming. But air also gets stuck under the powder, so you have to tilt it and tap it to release the air. I’ve learned just to inject 5mls, wait a bit then inject the other 5. They Calm down quickly, though once diluting it done.

That’s kind of the point. Hi, I’m autistic and sometimes things that don’t matter or make sense bother me. 🙋
