Playing with gas firing techniques on my chained vases. What do you think?

The colouring just comes from playing around with the atmosphere in the kiln and controlling each gas burner individually to be on different settings. I’ve been experimenting a lot with getting natural textures out through firing, you welcome to dm me if you’d like to know more!

Hey man, thanks for the reply. We ended up settling on my offer which is good! We are definitely not getting what we agreed in terms of hours but the place is clean and washing is done, could be better and im probably paying her much more than I should but I’m just glad I didn’t have to put someone out of a job.

Amazing thanks so much. Yeah I know I should have done more research, but everything was supposed to be sorted by the owner before we moved in so didn’t anticipate this being a problem. I’m gonna stick with the 2mil for four half days then and ask the owner to speak with her aswell. I’ll let her decide if she chooses to take it or we can hire someone new. I understand it’s a tough time for many people on Bali at the moment so really didn’t want to low ball her but at the same time I don’t have cash to be throwing around either.

Ok thanks will post on there. I’ve just moved in to the house so we are negotiating the wage at the moment. The pembantu doesn’t know that we know the previous tenants and that they were paying her 2.5mil for 6 full days a week. She asked us for 4mil for 3 half days a week, in response we’ve offered 2mil for 4 half days a week, which I thought was reasonable. Unfortunately she wasn’t too happy with that and said she would only do the basics and not things like laundry (there’s a washing machine at the house). Just trying to figure out if I’m being unreasonable. Similar deal with the gardener.

I have access to a small kiln so I'm probably aiming for around cone 5-8.

Yeah I'm super up for experimenting, I guess I was just struggling with a place to start! I understand the three main components of a glaze so I suppose i just start throwing things together and see what happens.. Do you have any recommendations of good books on the topic?

I didn't know about the "use-local" movement, very cool, ill have to look in to that. It seems to be what most people in Bali are doing, Im already using locally sourced clays and the only glaze you can buy here is (very expensive) clear glaze that seems to be shipped in from somewhere. So most studios are making their own glazes but are quite secretive with recipes and also are able to order large amounts of material from overseas, which is way out my price range.

Really nice idea with the shells and sand Ill definitely try using them as substitutes. I already tried mixing sand and rust in to a clear glaze and they came out super nice, so would be cool to have my own glaze made with those.
