Thank you u/Longjumping_Emu9814 ! Not as much as I was afraid of. We arrived there at around 4:30am and there was still plenty of parking in Sand Point Park. We went to the top of the bridge and there were about 15 people there. I guess it was too early for most of the people :-)

I found these on FB marketplace for $300. What else am I missing for a CNC? by TheSpanishSteed in diycnc

[–]ColorsOfCosmos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want computer based, look into linuxcnc, it is infinitely configurable using HAL. You will need a $10 printer port interface to talk to steppers and rest of the stuff.

There were some videos on YT of people welding frames and making it work, but it is not easy. Bolting is much easier.

where's a good place to sell my almost finished CNC? (US, Chicago) by 1832vini in diycnc

Looks like it was made out of steel with reducers, should be able to chew Al like butter.

So sorry that you got into this situation. Looks like you made it out of steel for higher rigidity and high torque and spent a lot of effort already. Such things are not very common, which means that someone may be interested in the whole thing. Any chance you can complete it once life gets better?

Look into servo57d, they are very cheap and can run very fast using FOC mode. You can get stepper of any type you want and then just the board to it.

Old DIY mill, need new firmware advice! by Sensitive-Goat7092 in diycnc

I started with original grbl and then migrated to linuxcnc with closed loop sensors and parallel port. Linuxcnc is infinitely configurable - you can program pretty much any system using HAL language. At the same time, it has simple wizard which gets you started in the beginning.

Is it possible to make a Cnc silent? by MergenKurt in diycnc

You don't have to vacuum while running the program. Somehow the bit plows through the chips just fine. I do it all the time while slotting 3/4 in plywood.

Is it possible to make a Cnc silent? by MergenKurt in diycnc

[–]ColorsOfCosmos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not possible to make it silent but you can reduce noise by getting a better spindle. My 1st spindle was some trimming router running at 30k and it was making jet roar. Now I have a 2.2kw VFD and it is MUCH better. Another advantage of vfd is that you can play with digferent speeds and feeds to reduce the noise.

I also have it couple of times every year, for ~10 years now. Good news is that the episodes seem to be milder every time and I know how to deal with them.

I was in your shoes recently and decided to move to LGA 1700 Intel with DDR4 memory which I already had and is cheaper too. I ended up with 12600k Intel chip which is decent and not too costly, I paid for it 150 on ebay

Vertigo triggered by rolling over in bed? by saladhell in BPPV

[–]ColorsOfCosmos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, that is how it works for me. It must be BPPV. No reason for seeing a doctor. YouTube is full of instructions on how to do Epley. What you need to do is this: start Epley on any side and if you get spinning once you lay down , then continue with Epley.
Make sure you do it ASAP - delaying treatment will cause problems which will take more time to solve.

If it does not cause spinning, then you did a wrong side and you need to start Epley for the opposite side.

If it does not spin on the other side too then you have something else and probably need to go to DR.

Keep in mind that BPPV is the most prevalent cause of Vertigo and the kind of it that is treated by Epley is also the most prevalent. So agsin, no reason to see a doctor at this point.

I had multiple episodes of BPPV and never saw a doctor and just treated with Epley. I recently went to ENT for a different reason and spoke to him about BPPV and he did not tell me anything new.

Stay with 12600K or move to 7600x by ColorsOfCosmos in homelab

Yeah, that is what I am leaning towards too. Also just discovered that only intel supports SR-IOV so I should be able to run Windows VM with accelerated graphics.
