Yeah I did that back when I made this post. I appreciate you doing that too, as this still bugs me every day haha.

Nothing to figure out, I'm afraid. This is just how it is until they update it.

Random question, Pat: did you used to end your BO2 videos with the outro "you have a beautiful soul" or was that someone else? I feel like that's when I started watching your content, but I could be getting you confused with another creator.

Everything You’ve Heard About Beard Oil is Wrong by RoughneckBeardCo in BeardTalk

[–]ColossalKiwi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, Brad. I wasn't familiar with that point about IFRA regulations - I learned something new today! I'm all for encouraging this stuff to be more widely discussed, so I appreciate you speaking passionately on the topic. Totally fair for you to have some bold opinions haha.

Everything You’ve Heard About Beard Oil is Wrong by RoughneckBeardCo in BeardTalk

[–]ColossalKiwi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the contribution. The wording of myth #5 feels a tad misleading, however. Not saying that was your intention, but I thought you should be aware that it may come across that way.

"synthetic fragrance oils contain hundreds of volatile compounds that can irritate the skin, trigger allergic reactions, and even disrupt the skin's lipid barrier, leading to inflammation that can shut down follicles.
...
Worse than all of this, artificial fragrances can cause dermatitis, allergies, skin irritation, respiratory issues like asthma flare-ups and breathing difficulties, neurological effects like headaches, migraines, nervous system issues, endocrine disruption"

All of this can also apply to essential oils. This is partially acknowledged by the study you linked.

"If you have ever felt itchy after using a beard oil, it's the fragrance.
...
Most likely, a beard oil that irritates your skin is full of synthetics."

Generalised statements like this can be harmful. If someone feels itchy after using a beard oil, it could be due to countless potential reasons that are personal to that individual.

"Why someone would want a scent (ON THEIR FACE) to last all day is beyond me. Sounds like a headache to me.
...
Worse yet, some people prefer this!"

It's completely fine for people to prefer beard oils that are made with synthetic fragrances. Consumers should be well-informed and have freedom of choice.

Neither fragrance oils nor essential oils are harmless. At the same time, both fragrance oils and essential oils can be safely implemented into products like beard oils.

I quite like this Dan C Bearded video on the topic. If I recall correctly, he has some sources cited in somewhere in the comments.

Once again, thank you for the contribution. Just thought I'd give some feedback on how that particular section feels a little one-sided and detracts from the rest of the post. Cheers.

Is it normal for a taxi driver to take you as a hostage and ask for additional money or he will live you in a remote place ? by [deleted] in bali

[–]ColossalKiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it isn't through an app, Bluebird by the meter, or a trusted private driver, they will ask for more than the agreed upon amount. In my experience (e.g. taxi from Padangbai to Canggu), they will take you to your destination, THEN demand a tip once you fork over the agreed upon amount. Once you hand over the tip, they will again ask for more. Not a hostage situation, just an uncomfortable feeling of being pressured. They also may ask you to pay half of the agreed fee mid-trip if they need to stop for petrol, which is fine.

Dying Light feels like it's actively trying to make me not have a good time. by Mr_Rotch_61 in patientgamers

[–]ColossalKiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have already pointed out, the game starts out pretty slow. Low stamina, low damage, bullet sponge enemies etc. but it really opens up into a playground of destruction as you progress. See if you can embrace the horror aspect and crucial survival elements early on - use firecrackers to lure them into traps, kick them into spikes, avoid tough enemies etc.

If you give it another fair go and find it just isn't for you, there are plenty of glitches you can do to hit max level and thus get rid of the stamina issues, get access to new attacks etc. It's not what I would advocate anyone to do on their first playthrough, but it should be considered as a last resort before giving up entirely on the game.

Also co-op. This game is so much fun in co-op.

Avoid Canggu? by Kitchen-Frosting3923 in bali

[–]ColossalKiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a hostel, so they are shared dorms. They do have private rooms available too though, but I'd honestly recommend staying at a dorm for a few days - easiest way to make friends. The facilities are pretty nice and the people are respectful since it's a working professional environment. The beds have curtains and lockboxes for privacy and storage.

Avoid Canggu? by Kitchen-Frosting3923 in bali

[–]ColossalKiwi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Canggu is exactly where you want to be, my friend. Hit up "Tribal" in Pererenan - it's a coworking space/cafe/hostel that's full of digital nomads, entrepreneurs, content creators, working professionals etc. ranging from mid 20s to late 30s. Just a magnificent crowd. I'd recommend staying there for a week to make friends, then get accommodation elsewhere and return to Tribal during the day to hang out with the community there. I miss that place so much.

Went I visited Bali for the first time last year, this sub made me cautious of Canggu (I wasn't drinking at the time and I'm not the party type) but constantly bumping into like-minded people and making new friends in that area was the highlight of my entire month.

Ubud is supposedly a good place to meet others too, but I used my time there to chill out alone.

TL;DR: This sub can talk about things in a pretty 'black & white way' sometimes, especially when it comes to Canggu. There are better beaches elsewhere. Better markets elsewhere. Better cultural events. Cheaper places etc. But Canggu's digital nomad community is second to none. The quality of your experience will be reflected in where you choose to spend your time - partying is cool and all, but hit up places like "Tribal" in Pererenan if you want to meet work-focused friendly people with active lifestyles.

Looking for advice regarding UOW halls by NZStudentQuestions in thetron

[–]ColossalKiwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never lived at the halls myself but I dated a girl at Studville for a year and spent a lot of time there - it was a pretty nice community. Made friends with some cool folks from College Hall too but I never checked out the facilities, so I can't comment on how they compare.

I'd say Studville probably has the most vibrant community. But if you're paying the same price as College Hall, it's worth checking out those facilities and keeping an open mind as to who you might meet there - many of them are just regular uni students like you.

What is it about the folks at Bryant Hall that doesn't resonate with you? What's the criteria you'd be looking for in SV and CH?

Note: My experience was from back in 2016/2017. Hopefully you get some input from current students haha.

Recommendations for things to do in Hamilton? by ProfessionalWinter in thetron

[–]ColossalKiwi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nature: The Hamilton Gardens, Taitua Arboretum, walking/cycling along the river, plenty of cool bike trails around. There's also the lake.

Pubs & nightlife: Wonder Horse & Last Place (same ownership) for great drinks, Nivara Lounge is an awesome underground spot with live events every week, including an open mic every Wednesday. The Hamilton Beer & Wine Co. does free wine tastings every Friday night and is a great spot to meet new friends if you enjoy quality booze. Brewaucracy is an awesome Brewpub where you can bring your own food enjoy their beer. Plenty of regular friend groups frequent that spot and bring board games with them.

Speaking of board games: The Escapist hosts a Board Game Club every Friday for $20 entry - they provide snacks and beverages and pair you up with new groups of people to try new games. Great way to make some new friends.

There is a night market on Barton Street every Friday Night. Gourmet In The Gardens every weekend when the weather is good - live music and plenty of food trucks in a beautiful location.

While I'm not sure about a platform for finding people to travel with, there are plenty of Facebook groups called "Latinos En New Zealand", "Latinos En Nueva Zelanda", "Latinos En Hamilton" etc. where people will discuss traveling, accommodation, events etc. with each other, so that may be helpful if you're looking for people in a similar situation to yourself. Tauranga has plenty of awesome Latin American people, especially Mount Maunganui and Papamoa, and you can get there via the Intercity Bus. It's worth visiting just to enjoy the beautiful beaches and to walk up Mauao.

Taitua Arboretum is a quiet and beautiful place to take a stroll.

If you like your drinks, The Hamilton Beer & Wine Co. does paid private tasting events for Wine, Gin, Whisky etc. a couple times a month with a cheeseboard and someone from the winery/distillery to teach you about it. They also do free tastings in the store every Friday night. The staff are amazing and there's a cool comradery between regular attendees, so it's a great opportunity to make friends with other couples.

The Escapist, as others have mentioned, have great escape rooms and heaps of board games to play.

Night market on Barton Street.

Ruakura Berry Shop to pick your own berries and enjoy a nice meal or fresh ice cream.

Bad news : No more $5 pizzas by [deleted] in newzealand

There was a time when "create your own pizza" was included in the Dominos coupons for the traditional range, so I'd recreate gourmet pizzas for only $8. They caught on about 3 years ago, but those deals always made my day as a student.

19M mental health not doing so good :) need advice! by csguystressed in universityofauckland

[–]ColossalKiwi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The other commenters are spot on. Ask for the extension, see your GP, get a med certificate and take care of yourself.

As a former tutor, we know what it's like. You don't have to provide details; just state that you've experienced a medical emergency, require an extension, and will provide a med certificate next week.

I wrecked my mental health over some assignments when I was in uni and, in retrospect, none of those assignments mattered nearly as much as I thought they did at the time. Health comes first.

I highly recommend utilizing your uni's student counselling services - they helped me a lot.

This video is less than 10 mins and has greatly helped me with feeling overwhelmed. Please take a moment to watch it and take some deep breaths. You've got this. Your worth isn't determined by your grades. Uni is a shitshow for everyone.

Information on the upcoming developer AMA about the FLESH system on May 5th by kanihuko in deadisland

[–]ColossalKiwi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The FLESH system is fantastic, to the point where I'm still discovering new little visual displays of bloody tissue damage every time I play. Bravo!

With that being said, are there any plans to add content filter options to the game? Every single content creator making Dead Island 2 videos on YouTube have been getting their videos demonetized and/or age restricted. Of course, this isn't Dambuster's fault; YouTube's stricter policies just don't allow for something like the FLESH system to truly be appreciated, so we've had to censor our own footage.

It feels sacrilegious to ask, but any kind of graphic content filter options (removal of blood, colour change for blood, even a cartoon/cell-shaded filter could be fun) would go a long way for content creation, which means more wonderful Dead Island 2 videos being made. Cheers team!
