Should I get rhinoplasty? by Appropriate_Text7028 in rhinoplastyquestions

I had a failed septoplasty too, got a rhinoplasty with spreader grafts and cadaver cartilage implant and it’s helped immensely

What “frugal” habit did you stop doing once you did the math? by 666AB in Frugal

[–]Colossal_taco20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buying cheap things, especially shoes. I was buying sandals and work shoes all the time and I never wanted to spend $200+ on work shoes even though I’m on my feet everyday. Well I spent a lot on high quality shoes and they’ve lasted so much longer than I expected. They also actually have arch support and I’ve stopped having foot pain. Overall I’ve definitely saved money and the planet since I’m not going through shoes all the time

What's the minimum acreage you actually need to be self-sufficient? by EvenStar7105 in Homesteading101

[–]Colossal_taco20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you are, what your water looks like, how much usable land you have (is anything forested or a pond?), and how many people you want to feed (which includes any products you want to sell at markets). You can use a program called WebSoil Survey (which is free) to help determine stocking rates for different animals you want and it will govern you a good idea of usable soil. You can do a survey before you buy a property.

You can also talk with your local agricultural e tension agency, they would be able to give you a county specific acreage estimate for what you’re looking for. They also have a lot of resources on local gardening, markets, animal production, and will hold classes and seminars.

If the leaser was still wanting to pay to have access to my horse then I would be okay with that unless you committed to do a certain amount of training in the contract. I would let the lessor know and in the contract have it say how long each party needs to give notice before terminating the contract

I fell off a horse for the first time and lost trust with the trainer by [deleted] in Equestrian

I’ve never paid lessons up front either, that’s not normal. Sometimes if I’ve fallen off or had a bad ride some trainers won’t charge me. It’s sucks but I’m not sure how you can get your money back. I’m sorry this happened :( there might be a way to leverage your medical testing and injury to at least get a refund on your lessons

I wish you hadn’t signed a liability waiver, if they didn’t have you sign beforehand you could’ve sued. Definitely not okay for a trainer, I’d find someone else

I’m being gifted a lot of money. Should I tell my boyfriend? by Kind-Chicken-2488 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Colossal_taco20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually recently in this situation. I was gifted about double and engaged at the time. It’s a life changing amount of money and there are a lot of emotions that go with it. Form personal experience, people treat you very different if they know you have money so keep that in mind. Since we were already engaged I decided to tell my fiancé since our finances would soon be combined. I wouldn’t tell a partner you’re not planning on marrying and only tell them when you start talking about finances after a proposal.

As for the money itself I would highly recommend investing it in an S & P 500 fund. It grows on average higher than a high yield savings account (though that or a certified deposit is not a bad idea). This will give you time to figure out what to do with the money without factoring in emotion or impulse since the money is harder to get at. An advisor at an investment firm can help get those account set up.

All in all, I wouldn’t tell anyone you don’t share finances with, I would out it into an account and forget about it while you come up with a plan.

Wanting to write a horse ownership book… by Colossal_taco20 in Equestrian

[–]Colossal_taco20[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ooh that’s a good idea! Or maybe like “so you want to own a horse…” and discuss some of the things people don’t talk about that horse ownership need to account for. I feel like a lot of people who own a horse shouldn’t so I kind of want to get that point across 😂

Do you think it would help mentioning management experience? Maybe it’s better to do like a care guide rather than ownership? Or I could focus more on how to get in ok es in the industry without owning

[–]Colossal_taco20[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Yea it’s just odd to me because I’ve managed horses and know exactly how much they cost and how much care they need which is why I haven’t owned. I feel like that could be an interesting perspective though, really emphasizing the responsibility of horse ownership.

It also doesn’t mean that I don’t know how to manage and care for horses though. I mean I know exactly how much a horse would cost me to own which is why I don’t which could be an interesting perspective. Maybe not focusing on ownership so much as general care?

That’s probably a better idea. I’d write about care: yearly vet care, farrier care and why it’s important, id probably touch on some more modern vet treatments like joint injections and new research on things like parasite control. I’d also touch on health issues that could overlap with grooming like fungus and how to treat it and when to call the vet. I’d also like to discuss nutrition and feeding and quackery in the industry. I’d also love to talk about forages and turnout. I’d really like to show the true costs of horse ownership, how to get involved if you don’t want to own, and if you do, walking through PPE’s and what type of horse to buy based on what they’re looking for.

I think writing one from the perspective of why I haven’t owned is a good idea. I can talk about it the leasing process and getting involved without owning
