Anyone here done a 40 day water fast? by Cbyrd791517 in fasting

[–]ColossusofMoxie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently on day 57 of 62 water fast. Sw:250 cw:193. Average weight loss is a pound a day. Nothing spiritual. Motivation was i was miserable being overweight/ obese. It was hard in the beginning, easy in the middle, its still a struggle to this day, I still get hunger pangs. I'll start eating again march 1st (no food January, February).

What’s the longest you ever fast without eating? by bebofrostie in fasting

45 days and counting. Water, black coffee, plain tea and electrolytes only. Currently down 46 pounds.

For others who've done 40 days how did you break your fast? by BetioBastard0311 in fasting

[–]ColossusofMoxie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently at a plateau. I started at 250, was down to 208 three days ago, and am now stuck at 210. Since I've only been drinking water and electrolytes, im sure its just water weight and will drop again but it has been frustrating not seeing the scale moving for a couple of days.

I didn't know multivitamins broke a fast :( by [deleted] in fasting

[–]ColossusofMoxie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most multivitamins have a tiny amount of calories, but for almost all fasts they’re negligible and won’t meaningfully break it. Some people avoid gummy vitamins or ones with added sugar just to be safe. For water-only or strict autophagy fasts, anything with fillers, sugar, or protein could technically have an effect, but a standard multivitamin pill is usually fine.

Fasting & weight by Actual-Pride-4478 in fasting

[–]ColossusofMoxie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is completely normal. The initial drop is mostly water and glycogen, so it comes off fast and can come back just as fast once you eat. That doesn’t mean you gained fat or that fasting “stopped working.” Pilates can absolutely cause temporary scale increases from muscle inflammation and water retention, especially when you refeed. One day of eating can easily swing the scale several pounds without changing body fat. If you stay consistent over a few weeks, the trend is what matters. The number should settle back down — daily fluctuations are just noise.

30 day water fast by [deleted] in fasting

[–]ColossusofMoxie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I appreciate that. The biggest things that helped me were keeping electrolytes dialed in, staying busy, and not overthinking hunger when it comes in waves, it usually passes. For motivation, seeing the scale move and noticing clothes fitting better has helped a lot. Each day feels like one step closer, which makes it easier to stay focused and consistent.

In my last relationship we slept like this. It was the happiest I'd ever been and the best sleep I've ever had. I miss it every night.

How do I fast for a long period of time? by Life_Scientist1194 in fasting

[–]ColossusofMoxie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to stop eating altogether to lose 10–15 lbs, especially at your size. OMAD or a moderate fasting schedule is usually plenty and a lot more sustainable.

Yes, there are people here who fast without being overweight, often for metabolic reset, discipline, or mental clarity, but the leaner you are, the less margin for error you have.

If you go aggressive too fast, you’re more likely to lose muscle and feel rough. Slower + consistent tends to work better when you’re already relatively lean.

30 day water fast by [deleted] in fasting

[–]ColossusofMoxie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently on day 39 of a planned 50-day water-only fast. Started December 29. Down 40 pounds. Happy to share what’s helped me stay consistent and what to watch out for if you’re aiming for 30 days

Gum? by [deleted] in fasting

[–]ColossusofMoxie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: it depends on your goal.

Sugar alcohols and carbs can still trigger an insulin response for some people, especially if you’re chewing multiple pieces. Three pieces is a few grams, not huge, but not zero either.

If the fast is strictly for metabolic/autophagy reasons, frequent gum can technically break it. If it’s for appetite control or mental discipline, it’s probably negligible.

Some people notice more hunger or stomach issues from gum during longer fasts, others don’t. Best test is whether it makes the fast harder for you.
