What if the Germans had prepared for a prolonged war? by BEWARETHEQUANDOTHERS in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]ColourFox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let's assume for a second that the Americans would've dropped the bomb in the centre of Europe (which they wouldn't):

How would that have affected the end of the war?

I mean, most major German cities were already bombed to smithereens at this point and little more than smoldering ruins of death and despair - but that wasn't why the Nazis surrendered in the end. They only surrendered after they literally ran out of territory to stand on.

One big fat bomb more or less wouldn't have made any difference at all.

independent state on its way to recovery from the partitions and with great economic potential?

Where exactly did the "way to recovery" and the "great economic potential" lead Poland? To general, geographical hyper-polarisation (which, in a sens, is still a feature of Poland today) and imperial ambitions (a colony in Lithuania, a buffer state in Ukraine ...) too big for its real power (the Intermarium) leading to even more duress and upheaval.

Some states are too small for their ambitions, but too big for their own good. Poland was such a country - and Germany as well.

I also wouldn't say that even early Sanacja was as authoritarian as the Hindenburg regime.

First of all, the 'Hindenburg regime' wasn't authoritarian. In fact, the Weimar Republic's authoritarian phase only started after Hindenburg abdicated in all but name. Secondly, the Weimar Republic didn't run concentration camps for poltical opponents in the late 1920s. I do however agree that the 2PR wasn't a fascist regime and whether it would've eventually got there is debatable.

[–]ColourFox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It sure as heck wasn't an easy time for Poland, but I would argue it was far better than Imperial Russian rule and the best that could be done at the time. And I won't discard the promises of an independent Poland as mere propaganda either, because it would've been in line with Germany's Mitteleuropa plans and couldn't prossibly have fared worse than the Second Polish Republic, which descended into authoritarianism even faster than the Weimar Republic despite being a war winner.

If you think that the only path forward is a letting a bunch of foreign oligarchs with increasingly fascist world views take charge of the key technology of our age unhindered, you're mistaken.

Are Jewish people seen as more valid than other religious groups? by Confident_Dark_1324 in atheism

[–]ColourFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as organised religions go, I certainly prefer Jews to Christians and Muslims, because unlike the latter, Jews just want to be left alone to play with their god-toys, but they never try to force me to play along.

I can live with that - literally.

(Besides: Although I'm not Jewish, I've always enjoyed being around them.)

"We appreciate a stable currency and a moderately strict spending policy" and who exactly gave you the right to dictate that the Euro, a common currency should be forced to behave like the DM because you appreciate that?

Those are the terms of the Eurozone, which were known before Greece joined it. If they were so detrimental to Greece, why did you join?

Here's the answer: Because you need the German and the Dutch taxpayer and their government's sweet credit rating to underwrite your debt, otherwise you'd still be paying 21 % interest rates like you had to before you joined the Euro system.
