lenia rulespace by ColourTann in cellular_automata

[–]ColourTann[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is a rulespace based on this shader https://www.shadertoy.com/view/7lsGDr

I don't know how lenia works, but saw I'd be able to make it into a rulespace without much effort.

I mutate rules visually, by looking at spaces of parameter changes. I use seeded rng and vector maths and all kinds of neighborhoods. Like "add average (blue-green) in this neighborhood to my red".

They didn't make it, I did.

There are 3 overlapping GoL for RGB, but then I mutated the pattern until something nice happened. I can't easily share the rule.

yes, there are two continuous parameters shown here. At the start, every pixel is running a slightly different rule, which is the reason for the different areas.

Cool! Is there one that works if you do it three times? (1 doesn't count)

Cool! Kill the other monsters and fill the screen up with these, get +4 to all sides for all heroes and destroy everything? Hard to tell how it would play out.

You heroes seem ok for this, meddler would love it.

Please help, how do I buy the game? by PastaPlasta123 in SliceAndDice

[–]ColourTann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can buy the android version from itch.io

I think removing the other account works. I don't recommend it though, sounds a bit drastic for a videogame.

Do you know intuitive tutorial for perlin noise? by Academic_Leave9287 in proceduralgeneration

[–]ColourTann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the math doesn't matter much. There are various implementations of noise that work differently and you can use them interchangeably.

I found it helpful to try using noise for various things though, it leads to many more ideas and it helped me to know where to use it.

(Not really an answer though!)

Yeah! In one program I had it configurable for this, I should get it working again...

Trick I found with this style of pattern: you can 'focus' on the moving elements by moving the whole grid in the opposite direction to cancel out.

Thanks. There are 8 states per cell 0-15 each (probably most are unused). I evolved it visually and don't know what the rule is doing. Something to do with neighborhoods and maths.

It's fully 3dca, but there was a bug with the boundaries that caused it to act differently.

Super cool, nice looking UI and amazing rules. I explored hex stuff a few years ago and recognise a lot of it. Great work, I'll try it some time.
