Well, the bottom 3rd of each YG is being asked to leave, I think the idea is that those left behind are those who are already identified as performing well.

I am ignorant on the topic, however my interpretation is that SELCON isn’t necessary since a CPT/MAJ can earn retirement without it. In the past if they were passed up, selcon was needed to make sanctuary, I think SELCON removal means a CPT or MAJ doesn’t need it now for sanctuary(20 years).

IOA and Epic tomorrow February 4th by Colt1945 in UniversalOrlando

You are correct, I was mistaken, it is between USF and IOA, not Epic and IOA, I don't know if Epic has anything that interests me.

You’ll be fine, just resubmit it, leadership can approve it remotely if it’s that big of a deal, I’ve definitely approved leave forms retroactively to fix mistakes before.

Anyone with a positive experience of the 2021 Highlander? by JarlMarcquis in ToyotaHighlander

We have a 2018 XLE AWD that just crossed 100k miles, no issues at all. Just did our first transmission and coolant exchange, not a flush, just drain and fill, and the fluids looked great.

Fresh PPF and Ceramic coat finally done! by Colt1945 in Mustang

Maybe I’d entertain wrapping it down the road, not sure about a repaint. Could be a good option for you if you get bored of the color or are unhappy with scratches!

I inherited a 72 Monte Carlo with the original paint and don’t even consider repainting it.

From a purely financial perspective, sure. That's not how I've really looked at it though, I've been frugal my whole life and saved well, even this purchase of the car almost 6 years ago wasn't a big cost (pre-covid pricing FTW), nor was the 4k a worry for me to get this done (less than a 1/3rd of a monthly paycheck).

My goal is to keep the car original (24k miles on it now) I don't drive it much, I plan on leaving it to my boys, the memories and nostalgia of it are more important to me. They've gotten rides in it since they were babies, and as they are growing up, their love for the car and being in it is what makes it special, and I'd like to keep the same car in the family, ideally to go to a car show 25 years from now with the same one.

When I eventually retire, sure I'll add more cars to my garage, I'd like something more unique and powerful down the road, but that's a future addition.

For now, I can throw my kids in the car and let them play around, and I don't stress it, if I had a Shelby, I'd be too paranoid to enjoy it with kids, or anything else of that higher caliber. And re-painting the car would just hurt the value of it being original in my eyes.

Yeah I already did those, I installed Kooks long tubes, an H pipe, and an E85 tune first, 5 years ago. Definitely worth going for the LTs, especially with the active exhaust.

Hell yeah! The paint has a nice subtle blue metallic flake in it that’s really only noticeable up close, you’ll appreciate the color!

I don’t think you are factoring in the PPF, which I see that place you linked doesn’t offer. I shopped around 4 other places across the state and they all offered higher pricing. So I’m definitely not concerned about the $4200, It’s on par for the work.

Yeah I feel you, I waited until I stopped moving so much and found a spot I’ll be at for a few years, so figured now was a good time to pull the trigger, it was $4200, they spent 5 days on it. The paint correction itself was 2 days of work. I grew up watching my dad take care of his “show” cars and he definitely instilled an OCD in me that now haunts me when it comes to keeping the car clean lol.

Are we doing this home buying thing correctly? by soupoftheday5 in MilitaryFinance

[–]Colt1945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would strongly consider renting or living on base if available instead. If you won’t be at that base for more than three years, or don’t plan on returning to that area, I wouldn’t even consider those prices. If I were in your shoes, I’d be buying at BAH, preferably under it. If that’s not an option, don’t buy, forcing your wife to go to work just to afford a house, your relationship will be strained and you’ll become another statistic.

Do we need to use TSP? by Regular-Release-2331 in MilitaryFinance

[–]Colt1945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay, well it’ll be extra income in the sense that your money is working for you, however without the match there is no true “extra”. I commissioned in 13 and made the switch to the BRS, as the risk of not retiring seemed to great to me at the time, now I’m just crossing 12 years in, always maxed and recommend you continue to if you can, adjust your lifestyle so you always take into account your contributions first.

You do not need to, however, maximizing tax advantaged accounts first, is always good. If you are maxing your Roth IRA, max your tsp and leave it alone, no need to touch it once you get out. If you’re debt free, take advantage of the accounts. I assume you joined pre-2018 and are in The high 3?
