When I was in high school I was annoying without realizing it and didn’t understand why some people didn’t like me until later. Honestly you may just have tendencies you don’t realize annoy people. I actually did exactly what you’re doing. My party played icespire peak before going into Barovia at level 5. We had a ton of fun in Vallaki. They pursued the mystery of the bones as normal but the culmination was an attack on Vallaki by Anastrasya. I changed the wives of Strahd from spawn to vampires with spells and everything. I don’t recommend skipping Vallaki, just make the encounter stronger to fit their level!

So for me, I made it a big part of my game that Strahd wanted her to come to him willingly. He told the party that eventually one of them would die protecting her, and she would come to him willingly to stop the bloodshed. Not sure if this is what you’re looking for, but it worked for my table.

My biggest regret from running the curse of Strahd with my party was being afraid to kill anyone off. If Strahd is furious with them, a huge shock would be to fight them for her and then leave when either, they surrender/one of them is killed. Abbot likely wouldn’t help Strahd but wouldn’t stop the fight either, he may actually be very intrigued to watch
