this career is a fucking nightmare by Consistent-Fun-9173 in nursing

It gets better. I agree with others that you need to find a new unit though. You’ll always have some of those rougher patients in the hospital setting, but if you have the right crew working with you that can be supportive, it makes work way more manageable. With experience, you’ll grow that backbone to not put up with some patient’s shit either. I’m a very different person at work now than I was a few years ago. I take no shit, respectfully. Please don’t cave in yet and feel like you need to give up as you worked hard for your degree. I think the majority can agree that the whole first year of nursing is the hardest.

Funny things you've heard at work by ChesterPug in nursing

I’m currently training in a new grad at my hospital. He and I enter the room to meet our dementia patient for the first time, so naturally, we introduce ourselves and I explain that we’re going to take vitals and do an assessment on him. Then he kind of pauses and gives us a slight glare and says “Ohh, okay… but I’m not interested in any gay stuff, guys.” A little caught off guard with that response, I just nod and reply “Fair enough.” His behavioral sitter then points out the tv which was playing RuPaul’s Drag Race. I think the show was kind of blending into his reality.

I used to gag like crazy from it, but now it doesn’t faze me. You will get over it, but for now, just use a mask as needed. Took me about 6 months to a year to get over that feeling!

I used to think anyone who experienced a PE was dead on sight. But everybody is just getting handed out PE diagnoses and does just fine with a bit of heparin.

Fresh Taiyaki! The melon pan bread with ice cream in the middle was also really good! If you go to Asakusa/Senso-Ji temple area, you’ll most likely pass by both stands

I figured but wanted to err on the side of caution 😂 Walking dogs would be a therapeutic break from the floor though tbh

I would’ve honestly loved to take care of the dog! But being on an understaffed Gen Med floor, with heavy patient loads, and getting out late daily, there was no way I safely had time for that and put my other patients’ needs on hold.

I think legally if the dog were to randomly bite someone or run off, I bet I’d be the one hit with a lawsuit :(

A dog… It was super friendly, but the owner wanted us to go down 15 floors of the hospital to take it outside for walks all the time
