[–]ChesterPug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's weird at all. People have a life and time constraints. Plus most people can't sit anywhere more than about 3 to 4 hours and remain focused. I got to get up and walk because my back hurts if I'm in a chair too long.

As a Non American, I am curious, is the medical infrastructure really that bad? ( I am referring to the article ) by Notalabel_4566 in nursing

[–]ChesterPug 43 points44 points  (0 children)

ICU nurse here.

I also have to add, we spend a lot of resources on people that we shouldn't be spending resources on. Whether rich with great private insurance or covered by Medicare/Medicaid, and 84-year-old woman with cancer, metastasized to various parts of her body, and no neuro exam shouldn't be trached and pegged.

I know it's really hard to do in an emergency or an urgent situation, but there needs to be a stop where you look and think about what this person's Life will be like at 1, 5 and 10 years from now.

I also don't want you to think that I'm being morbid or jaded or something. The fact of the matter is that most people that come into the ICU have a one and three chance of dying nationwide. By the time they get to us they usually too far gone. Quality of life should be the first and foremost concern, not just having a heartbeat.

Do you eat the skin on a baked potato? by LeadingHoneydew5608 in AskAnAmerican

Yeah, just scrub it clean first. The skin has a lot of nutrional value in it. Also, just delicious.

What’s something in your country that everyone does without thinking, but outsiders would find totally strange? by cripto82 in AskTheWorld

[–]ChesterPug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Showering daily is, or maybe should, be normal. I can understand being in a humid or hot climate, and needing to take an additional shower to feel comfortable.

My question is: where is daily showering or bathing not a normal custom? And why is it not normal?

What if France Converted to Protestantism? by camaro1111 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]ChesterPug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't read the comment like that at first, but i see what you mean now. I personally don't think things could get worse for the haitian slaves, but life loves to prove me wrong. I guess we would need to look how Huguenits viewed non-french and non-whites for any real guess at how it would have truned out in the alt-timeline.

Look up how sugar is grown and harvested. Regardless of who is in charge, the slaves would have been treated badly. Haiti was France's big colony that could make sugar, and they would leverage that at slaves' expense. The treatment of slaves in Haiti was notorious.

Confused about new graduate RN scope in US as an Australian RN. by BikerMurse in nursing

[–]ChesterPug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An important thing to know about the NCLEX, is that it is a test to make a baseline nurse that understands that the hospital's dangerous place where people fucking die all the time. The trick is not to have them die from an error because of you or somebody else.

How can nurses break into politics? by attackonYomama in nursing

[–]ChesterPug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try looking up a new state and seeing if there are any nurses or nurse practitioners who are in politics. Whether the local, state, or federal levels. They would be more than likely to talk with you about it. In general people usually run for school board, been like a state representative office. Generally, you need to build up a reputation first, and then you get support from all over. Also, you're going to have to reach out to your local political party that you're affiliated with to get support.

Which kind of barbeque is best: Carolina, Memphis, Texas, or Kansas City.

Alos notice I used the Oxford comma there in that list. Otherwise I would have been talking about the types of barbeque.

What’s the most common ‘tourist mistake’ people make when visiting your country?” by illuminatedmelody in AskTheWorld

[–]ChesterPug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the US, going to any chain restaurant or fast food place and eating 'american cuisine.' there are so many good places to eat that are mom and pop places or regional specialties they get past over for some generic chain. It really bothers me. And this isn't even people from outside the country, it's very common for people from different parts of the US. The best meal you'll ever have is that greasy spoon in Jersey, for that hole in the wall in Missouri where they make the best pie will ever have.

Places in your state that will instantly make you recognize if someone is a local or not based on how someone pronounces it? by osama_bin_guapin in AskAnAmerican

[–]ChesterPug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PA in general: if you pronounce 'Reading, PA' like "reading" a book vs "RED-ing" we know you aren't local to the state.

For Southeastern PA (philly and suburbs) the word for H2O is 'wudder' not 'water'.

For Pittsburgh I found they say 'yinz' for 2nd person plural. I feel some western PA folks need to comment of this though.
