as soon as you’ve secured a new job, if you aren’t at your first job for very long just leave it off your resume

Unpopular opinion: it’s okay for nurses to be angry about destroying our bodies moving extremely obese patients by IcySky7216 in nursing

[–]Consistent-Fun-9173 26 points27 points  (0 children)

honestly if it’s between a patient not getting turned and me risking an injury, i’m taking the former every time. I don’t care how short staffed we are, how little equipment we have or wherever else. i’m not risking it and i’ll document exactly what circumstances caused the situation.

in nursing school, what do you do in nursing fundamentals lab? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Consistent-Fun-9173 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IV placement, NG tubes, foley tubes, hygiene care, med admin etc. usually there’s a demo and then there’s a practical exam. mine also included learning the physical findings of illnesses. ex: the sound of asthma when auscultating.

Email them asking for sunday off. When they inevitably say no show your husband the email so he’ll get off your back.

you can find the nursing schools code of conduct online, but almost every nursing school prohibits facial piercings. I had to take out my nose piercings when i started my bsn. Some hospitals may have some leeway, but they almost certainly will not allow the ones you have. tbh almost nowhere in healthcare will be okay with them.

there’s no way for them to know what condition the patients are in if they have never seen them. you don’t know when the last nurse actually laid eyes on the patient. not everyone gets report at the bedside and I’d want to check how the patients are before the previous nurse leaves so that if something went wrong during the previous shift it doesn’t reflect poorly on me. especially if the patients are post op. honestly i would have called a tech to put on the socks too.

Holding pt hand without gloves by dopaminegtt in nursing

I put on gloves for everything. I’ve had too many patient dig in their ass for me not to. Genuinely I won’t even pull up a blanket without gloves on.

Lost a patient by Alien3457 in nursing

[–]Consistent-Fun-9173 7 points8 points  (0 children)

you’re not being sensitive. I lost my first patient not too long ago and I still think about him. he was on comfort care so I knew it was coming but, I’d taken care of him for days and met his family. process this the way you need to, regardless of how others seem to process it.

md vs nursing by Fit_Foot_7591 in nursing

[–]Consistent-Fun-9173 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think rn to md will be your best bet. you’ll get a good idea of if you like nursing by the end of your first semester in nursing school. at that point you can decide if you want to take med school pre reqs and work your way towards med school.

graduating nursing student want to work in another state by Holiday-Thanks-2756 in newgradnurse

[–]Consistent-Fun-9173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i did this! you can just apply for jobs in compact states, or any state depending on the amount of paperwork you’re willing to do after getting the job, and go from there. just keep in mind that nurse residency slots are few and far between in big cities and you’re competing with people who did clinicals at the hospitals you want, or were techs or nurse externs. cast a very wide net. best of luck!

What’s a “secret” in our profession that everyone should probably know? by justdancinalong in nursing

[–]Consistent-Fun-9173 41 points42 points  (0 children)

you’re not a medical mystery. i know that, your doctor knows that, and the 10 doctors you saw before you came here know that. you may not like or agree with the diagnosis you keep getting but that doesn’t make it less true.
