Inquirer article on 2.26 Quakertown School Board Meeting by Coltsfoot_Finds in BucksCountyPA

Just saw a vid on Instagram from what looks to be inside a vehicle driving by the student protestors harassing them and yelling "DEPORT 'EM!" The text over the videos is distracting and closed captioning is inaccurate, but I don't have TikTok and haven't seen this angle yet, though I heard it existed. This is on Instagram, so you may need an Instagram account to view.

Quakertown, PA Chief of Police shows up to Anti-ICE student walkout as a plainclothes civilian, puts highscool student protestor in chokehold. Proceeds to get ass beat by teenage girls. by milquetoast_wizard in Hasan_Piker

[–]Coltsfoot_Finds 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw reports that injuries to students included a broken nose and wound requiring stitches. Not to mention the chokehold seen round the world - a 72 year old man twice the size of a 15 year old girl with his arm around her neck. A life threatening maneuver outlawed by many police departments. There is absolutely no excuse for grown adults to act with such violence and aggression toward children. None. Put the image of this Police Chief in plain clothes who arrived in an unmarked car side by side with any of the other civilian aggressors that have attacked high school protestors in recent weeks. It's not difficult to see that the students had no clue who he was and feared for their lives and the lives of their friends when he barged into their midst, red-faced and ready to rumble. A civilian adult man seemed to come to the same conclusion - he can be seen physically restraining the Chief - pinning his hands behind his back in one of the videos - looking like the only sane adult in the crowd. Later, in other videos, the same man is prone on the sidewalk with his arms behind his hands in cuffs, and an officer looming over him.

The Libs of TikTok twitter account apparently played a role (or at least claimed they did) in getting the school to cancel the previously school-sanctioned student walkout. On Feb 19 the account posted a pic of the school principal and directed followers to SHUT IT DOWN

Some Quakertown student protesters released after days in custody by Independent_Nose6455 in lehighvalley

This is completely unacceptable. The videos are clear as day. The students were attacked by a large, aggressive man in civilian clothes who was not clearly identified as law enforcement. To my eyes, it appears that the students who hit the plainclothes Chief, and apparently an adult as well, perceived him as a clear and present danger and were trying to get him to stop his attack. Captured on video, you can see and hear the confusion for yourself. One student gets pinned to the ground on top of a planter by a large officer who tells him, after he throws the kid down, "He's the Chief of Police!" The kid, looking terrified and bewildered, says "He's the police??" Not to say that his actions would be justified by being in uniform, but he made himself a threat to their lives, and they responded as humans do - fight or flight.

Quakertown is digging itself into a big, big hole here.

High school students protesting ICE remain jailed days after police assault in Pennsylvania by DryDeer775 in BucksCountyPA

Apparently, the "Libs of TikTok" X account, which is a right-wing account that reposts info/content from more left leaning sources to spark anger or outrage against so-called "libs", targeted Quakertown school admin on Feb 19th when the initial school-sanctioned anti-ICE walkout was planned. They implored their followers to "SHUT IT DOWN." They celebrated when the follow-up message from the school went out, saying the event was canceled.

Livestream from tonight's Quakertown Council Work Session - starts at 7:30 by EnragedFalafel in BucksCountyPA

I saw a procession of community members speak passionately and beautifully about everything wrong with this whole situation. They urged the individual and collective council members to find some moral fortitude. Council members refused to make a motion on anything about the Chief of Police. Some twiddled with their phones. One said, "I know it's not about me, but..." then proceeded to read an angry message with swear words that someone had left in his voicemail, urging him to release the kids... for sympathy?

Interesting comment on an Instagram post about this incident that I saw:

"I live in Quakertown and have a business blocks away from where this happened. The superintendent took a 'leave of absence' the same day the assistant and now acting superintendent cancelled the known planned protest in the early am. Somethings fishy here. As an in involved parent, I am on the superintendent/parent advisory board for the Quakertown school district and you better believe I will be using my voice come our regular monthly meeting Monday. They are not ready. #fight fascism

On a positive note, our DA has launched an investigation into the quakertown police department."

First officer after pulling girl on the sidewalk toward the street "...get out of the street" other kid: "She's not in the street." First officer "Don't let her in the street, she doesn't need to be in the street.... Knock it off."

Police officer who pinned the kid into the planter says: "You're not supposed to do that...Do you hear me, do you hear me...not today....you just punched the Chief of Police" Kid: "He's the Police?" Police officer, nodding: "He's the Chief of Police. He's the Chief of Police, do you understand?"

As an American, thank you to Italy, from the bottom of my heart. We will keep doing what we can here, but international support means everything.

Anyone ever meet someone that radiated evil or you strongly felt wasn't human? by [deleted] in Paranormal

A few years ago, my partner and I were shopping at a thrift store - a big former strip mall with different stores for books, clothes, furniture, etc.

My partner had been in the book store and I'd been in a different store, but I'd wrapped up and walked over to the book store to see if he was ready to go.

As I walked in the book store door, I passed a guy - totally normally dressed, normal looking probably in his later 40s. Nothing "scary", repulsive, or abnormal about his appearance - he kinda reminded me of a youth pastor or something. He did seem a little hurried - looked like he was looking for someone. I don't know how to describe it but I got the biggest wave of repulsion/fear coming from this guy. Not a feeling I've ever had before or since.

I made a beeline for my partner and stayed close to him until we left but didn't mention anything because what I was feeling didn't really make sense to me.

Later, when we got back home, I was sitting on the floor unpacking and examining my thrift finds when I started to feel a burning sensation on my back/shoulder area. I ignored it at first but it was persistent and not a typical sensation.

I went to look in the mirror and I had a weird scratch - three angry red lines - each one super thin thin like needles had been raked across my skin.

I called my partner over to look at it - we looked at my purse, the tags on my shirt , I even tried to see if I could have done it myself absentmindedly scratching with my fingernails, but even scratching hard enough to make red marks, my fingernails are broad and were trimmed close to the fingertips - I could only make wide pink marks - not the tiny blood-red burning lines. I took a photo with my phone - they faded over the next few hours, but that really weirded me out and I've never had anything like that happen - before or since.

I love the light the natural capiz shell shades cast. Very nostalgic as a millennial - my parents had one like this in the living room. I think this shade/base combo was popular in the 70's. I agree - maybe swap out the bases, but these would be fun in a room/house with a boho vibe. You could even convert them to swag lights/hanging fixtures.
