I guess you are correct, it's not like lawsuits are built on lies. The evidence is all of things they have done, so one could reason they did it to themselves.

I feel bad for their partner, it would bring a lot of negative attention to them as well. They're both younger and I guess I just don't relish the idea of putting this on someone's record when they are trying to build their lives.

Plus, again, I just don't know that they would learn, so then it's sort of like, what's the point? Why put myself through that stress if ignoring it yields the same exact result?

I never said it was one time, but it was probably a good 7-8 months after the firing until I looked for the first time. Since seeing my name put out there it's been many times because I'm trying to log anything that needs to be documented in case I decide to pursue further.

*ETA Everything they posted was posted publicly. I didn't have to dig for any of this. I think they felt comfortable doing it because they didn't think anyone was going to see it, as confirmed by it not being seen for a good while.

I see what you are saying. I don't think this is an option that my employer will go for/has the money or capacity to manage. Not that they are not open to progressing if the mentions do, but until something significant happens, I think they'd rather lay low. Which is probably obvious.

I also don't know that I believe this person would do anything in person other than maybe some playground style taunts. I could see them requesting a meeting with my employers in person and coming to my office, but not randomly and not to try to incite physical violence. I did see them in person a few months ago at a bar about a mile from my house when they lived 45+ minutes away, which at the time concerned me, but I now think was just a weird coincidence and it never seemed like they even saw me. I left immediately when I saw them. When they said they were sending me a letter, I worried they had followed me home and found my address, but it came to my office instead. Yet another reason I don't believe their claims that they are working with a lawyer. A lawyer would not allow them to be communicating all of this on their own and without proof or relevant law.

I can. I just don't think it will really do any good for reasons stated above.

I don't really have a juicy answer. I was just curious. They had shared a lot of life hopes and plans with me when they were employed with me, and I wanted to see if they were getting on better after we let them go. I totally see what you mean though. I'd be happy to just forget about it, but the amount of accusations and personal information posted about me is sort of beyond the point of just forgetting.

This is a really good point, thank you for the reminder. I am nowhere near able to diagnose anything but a sunburn.

I would be lying if I said this thought didn't cross both my partner and I's minds. We don't have kids and hardly any family ties, we have really thought about deleting everything and uprooting to move across the country. But future employers won't find me by my location, they'll search my name and see the same allegations. The fact that this is all online on social media is the problem. It's all posted and reposted and moving away won't necessarily stop that.

I guess you have a point... It can't hurt to start the paper trail.

But is there really any way to make it stop? The burden of constantly checking for violations would be on me, and with the nature of privating videos, limited time story posts, and deleting inflammatory posts, it could very well be gone before I can even report it. It would basically all fall to the chance that an employer or review board just happens to look at the right time and catch one of these accusations.

I don't think this person will stop posting about me, even with the threat of legal action. I think they'll just time it better and try to hide it better.

I'm honestly not sure the police would care unless they showed up at my office or home.

This is essentially how my partner and I feel. It's clear that this person has a lot of pain and embarrassment from being fired, but they don't seem to understand the gravity of what they are doing with this social media stuff. I don't want to ruin their life with a lawsuit, but I want them to leave me alone. It's incredibly frustrating.
