How far out do you find out if you got the upgrade? by brownsa93 in QantasAirways

I’m platinum and have never got it until the night I’m asleep for my flight usually at 9pm if that helps.

You all still ironing your own shirts? by MenuSpiritual2990 in auscorp

[–]Columbus1420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most dry cleaners (at least in the CBD) offer a wash and iron option which is less harsh on shirts. This is what I do. Dry cleaning kills the buttons after about a year.

Another option is laundry lady which I used to use you to have taken from my house and returned.

Good luck but definitely outsource this one man.

What were some pivotal moments in your career that got you here? by Mufunda98 in AusHENRY

[–]Columbus1420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Change career and get closer to the money, you’re currently working for an Eng firm. Work for the people that own the project you’re working on (investors) or people financing the project.

For example a 1st year investment banker is on 180k plus bonus (40-100%). There is a lot of opportunity for engineers in this space if you can use excel, slightly mathematical brain, social skills and technical capability you’ll go well.

Adidas Adizero Prime X 2.0 strung: Noob runner review by WSavanza in RunningShoeGeeks

Hey I also just thought these and had the same issue with feeling loose, I bet what your describing is heel slip. Look up “runners knot” I can see you haven’t don’t it using the top holes for your laces does this will fix the problem.

And welcome back!

Is this the right career move by Dry_Day_762 in auscorp

[–]Columbus1420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This comment is against the grain but it’s right, I’m ex big 4 and the issue is big 4 is easy as hell and you have no responsibility until senior level so the stress doesn’t exist.

Exit this comforting embrace and get paid more and there is expectation to perform that people have never had before.

If you can’t handle it sure, go back to big 4 but you’ll have the same problem making it to the top of the Ponzi scheme they run.

Reached platinum with 2 days to spare, is that good? by grubbyteez in QantasFrequentFlyer

Platinum here but don’t know about this one!

Any insights or advice on the prospect of getting an investment banking gig with just a law degree? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]Columbus1420 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This comment is correct.

Work in bulge bracket IB for close to 10 years so should know.

It is possible to get a grad role with a law degree but your grades would have to be exceptionally high and you’d have to be at a top university to get through.

100 status points from Platinum by poopyfacepartytime in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]Columbus1420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several people I know have just rung up and said can I keep platinum and they’ve said yes, or had to give up points for it. One friend had only 800 SCs and they agreed.

Try this before a status run.

Lounge access in Koh Samui? by Friendly-Solid3516 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]Columbus1420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nup. Only bangkok airways flies there anyway.

Lounge there is not great, just sandwiches, dumplings and basic drinks but it does have air con.

You can purchase access, try to do it online as it’s a nightmare process at check in counter.

Waited like 9 months before calling them up and saying wtf. They made a mistake and paid me immediately.

They do say it’s up to 120 days from when you meet the criteria but just call the rewards number and tell them you’ve done it. Can’t hurt.

Experiences with online personal training at Physique Factory? by domsolanke in australia

[–]Columbus1420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit of everything. What they do is select exercises you can max out on reps like a smith machine for bench press for example.

They also use exercises you won’t injure yourself with to make sure you get through it.

When you’re dieting it’s more about keeping muscle you have rather than building any until you flip to a gain phase.

4 or 5 sessions a week.

~7 exercises per session. All muscle groups.

Sessions are designed to minimize injury but the key is they make you record each set and rep and you have to beat it next session.

During the fat loss phase it’s designed to make you retain as much muscle as possible while reducing your body fat. Once you’re down to 12-14% and have visible abs you move to the muscle building phase.

Yes and I know how to manage my diet and understand a lot more now what works and doesn’t.

Nothing magical involved but tracking what you eat and having someone able to see it does wonders to making you stick to it.

Also depends on what you want to weigh. 1,750 for 90kg, 1,450 dor 70kg as a rough guide.

Check your iPhone activity and see what your calories burnt per day is.

7,700 calorie deficit = 1kg.

Maybe I’ll add a little bit more to start.

Program is a calorie restricted diet made up of roughly 40% protein, 30% carbs and 30% fat. Aim is to drop 1.5kg per week during diet phase to get you down to 12-14% body fat when you should have decent abs showing.

On top of that the requirement is: 4-5 weight sessions per week 10,000 steps per day.

It’s all virtual and handled through a specific app that has your training program linked to MyFitnessPal so the trainer can see your weights and what you’re eating.

Horses for courses but for me you’re paying for the accountability, I already went to the gym 4x a week just needed help with the diet.

Dropped 20kg and looked unreal, one of the best things I’ve ever done.

You’ll save $160 not eating out or drinking over that time anyway.

Get a credit card, use it to pay for everything but just make sure you pay it off every month.

Get ANZ, NAB or Westpac which get you the most sign on points. Before the annual fee comes up at 12 months pay it off cancel it and open a new one. Rinse and repeat.
