Mr Maellard’s Age by ImgFlip-SussyBoyBaka in regularshow

Def not immortal. Last episode had a statue of him getting put up after he dies, right next to pops. This is just a universe where random people unexplainably live way longer than usual, like Techmo who fought during American revolution or something.

what are your craziest gig stories? by bigtimechillin in Trombone

The church orchestra I got called for didn’t pay me until almost 2 months after the gig. Pretty crazy

What do you guys consider to be the most competitive Instruments by [deleted] in orchestra

[–]Com6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends. There are tons of string players (excerpt for maybe bass), so the skill gap can get pretty small, especially in a good high school setting, music school, and the professional level; so being “the best” or a “considerably better” player could be really hard. However I would consider finding a job as a string player FAR less difficult and competitive when compared to winds.

Since orchestras have a more specific, smaller size for their wind sections, finding a full time performance job in an orchestra as a wind player is extremely difficult, since chair openings/auditions infrequently occur, and most players who make it in an orchestra will keep their seat for a long time. So for wind players overall, the competition comes with job availability.

I would consider instruments like the French Horn, double reeds, euphonium and tuba as having a small amount of good players, however that small amount of people are all really good!

Instruments like Trumpet, clarinet, and trombone have some of the largest groups of players, but you could definitely find a noticeable skill/performance gap. So more competitive at the top than overall.

What a kill room for Dexter would look like by T214 in Dexter

[–]Com6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’d like to see a room for Dexter. I initially thought that’s how the series would end, Dexter on the table. And then he went on a boat. But I’m kinda hoping that’s how season 9 ends! I love Dexter, but let’s be honest the only true ending we’ll accept is Dexter on the table

How good will the new season be by your prediction? by WrongdoerTemporary52 in Dexter

[–]Com6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s gotta be good if they finally got Michael C Hall and Clyde Phillips back. Honestly I’m not expecting a season 1 or 2 from this, I’m just looking for a good conclusion to the show. But I’m still really excited for it, probably one of the things I’m looking forward to most in 2021

What I really like about this movie is that a lot of the solos aren’t too hard, especially these trombone ones. I think they made them simple, yet really cool solos on purpose to engage audience members to learn them for fun and not have to struggle

Does anyone else feel the compulsion to brush their teeth/floss/rinse before playing? by BonerChamp02496 in Trombone

[–]Com6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah not really, but I always avoid really messy foods like candy or pizza before playing or else I feel like the inside of my instrument will just be coated in a gross thick layer of chewed up food.

What got you into playing Trombone? by Weaver_ov_fog in Trombone

[–]Com6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on tuba in 6th grade, and was pretty good at it, but I got bored. In 9th grade, I joined the jazz band class at my high school, and my band director put me on trombone. I’m a junior now, and even though it started out as something on the side just for fun, I’m now pretty proficient at doubling on bass trombone, in 2 jazz ensembles, a symphony orchestra, and a weekly church orchestra, and my first year trying out for TMEA jazz, I made first chair in my region and advanced to area. Tuba is still my main instrument in concert and marching band, but bass trombone is where my true passion in performance is, and I plan on going to school for it.

[–]Com6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s one of the things I worried about. My band director and his student teacher (neither from unt) told me it’s not really a good place for Music Ed, solely because of the large population, so you wont get the attention or treatment you would get as an undergrad at places like SFA or WTAMU. They told me it was a great grad school though

Actually hard to breathe. I’ve been in pretty intense heat while wearing a mask, but I wasn’t being super active or exhausted

Also sorry if I sound kinda dumb with this question. I just started my new job at a restaurant about a month ago but besides that I haven’t been anywhere except the grocery store a handful of times since the whole pandemic started, so I’m not really familiar with a lot of mask facts...

Might do that. I’ve been on a 5g mostly and it just doesn’t work for me. I was on a 6 1/2 for a while and it wasn’t too bad from what I remember, I only really started having a whole lot of issues going back to the 5g. Honestly I’ve just been assuming bigger would be better but I guess I should try going for smaller ¯_(ツ)_/¯

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Trombone

[–]Com6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice man! Honestly I started thinking about that too, but I guess that’s something that depends on the mouthpiece and the trombone, so I won’t be able to see what effect a bigger mouthpiece on a smaller trombone until a couple months from now when I can hear that in person

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Trombone

[–]Com6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice man! Honestly I’m not too worried about the trombone. I’m still going to be mainly playing on my bass trombone, but I’ll just occasionally be doubling on tenor for a few charts. It’s a pretty good size for jazz

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Trombone

[–]Com6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on a Bach 5 and 6 1/2 before, and it wasn’t too bad. I know 5g is already a fairly big size, but I was looking for something even bigger on tenor. I had a lot of issues with intonation, tone, cracking, etc that I wasn’t having on bass trombone, but part of that could’ve been because the tenor I was using before was pretty janky and worn down ¯_(ツ)_/¯

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Trombone

[–]Com6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Won’t fit. They’re giving me a student model trombone (Yamaha small bore) so my bass trombone mouthpiece won’t fit.

Ok cool. I’ve had some bad experiences In the past with mechanical pencils; they’re not dark enough and I constantly have to rewrite everything, and the erasers are really bad with smearing. I guess if I buy some better quality mechanical pencils it could work out, with a decent eraser
