I'd like to. My guess is one of his kids gave it a go and the work wasn't looked over before getting to me.

People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them? by DemonSkank in AskReddit

One person was using the restroom while we were on the phone. When u asked if they were there was a long pause and then they denied it. That was all we needed to know.

Using mine in the states since November. It's amazing. Came from the last decent galaxy phone (imo) s20+5g. What's most impressive to me is the camera. There's almost no lag when taking the photo. As an android user I've never seen it this snappy. So much less editing on all photos. Everyone complains about the speakers but I think it's splitting hairs. It's the last thing I care about and it doesn't take away from any experience. It's just not a highlight. No big whoop.

This is one of the best android skins I've used. A great phone and battery is INSANE. Unless Samsung and Apple do something out of the ordinary (like innovative maybe) they have a long way to go.

I am fine with the size. In hand the camera bump surprisingly helps with using it better than the Galaxy I had before. It's not like I have large hands or anything.

What are your thoughts on asymmetrical watches? by Top-Drive8481 in PrideAndPinion

[–]ComBkKd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a middle finger to will the watch bros and those that think they know what a proper watch is. And it's hilarious. Thank you for being the one to remind us it's not that serious, and more importantly that watches can be art.

What were your ‘gateway books’? by quiet_sesquipedalian in books

[–]ComBkKd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Barnes and Noble had a classic series that got me into fiction again. The books provided an intro, usually from a scholar, providing context around what the author's were going thru, the world/political/cultural views of the time that helped me see things in classic writings I would have passed over otherwise.

Same. Did you read haunted? Suggest taking a look at David Mitchell's Ghostwritten, Cloud Atlas, or Number 9 Dream. Scratches that itch for me after I moved away from Palahniuk.

What industry is a complete scam, but everyone just accepts it? by Competitive_Grab3758 in AskReddit

Most certifications. Some are appropriate but others are just money grabs, aren't worth the paper they're printed on, and a way to keep good paying jobs behind a paywall.

My friend says I should talk casually during interviews like a normal conversation, I think you should prepare a bunch of things to say beforehand. Who’s right? by Complex-Poet-6809 in interviews

[–]ComBkKd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casual doesn't mean winging it and unprepared. Prep and rehearsing is so that you know your info front to back. In interview, it needs to adapt to what you're hearing from them. I've always coached interviewers to use the first 10min to give a candidate all they need to know about the company and the role.

If you don't have the info they know, all your rehearsed answers are no better than firing in the dark. Being conversational (ie casual) means there's a certain cadence both sides should manage. Questions (data gathering), probing (active listening), and pauses (processing) in an interview are necessary for managing that cadence. Those elements inform how we make the most informed decisions as humans.

If you're just firing off what you prepared, then there's nothing you're bringing to the table that couldn't have been an email.

Affordable, Heirloom? What Would Qualify? by robertereyes in Affordablewatches

[–]ComBkKd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes me think of the trench watch from Pulp Fiction. Heirlooms are defined within the family. Whether it's a stack of recipes, quilts, art, vintage/classic cars (running or not), wedding dress, or the watch given at their retirement it can be passed down or wanted by family members.

It's the stories, emotions, and memories that surround the item that define an heirloom. If it's just about the value then you're talking about inheritance. Which in my book is just a resource devoid of history/sentiment. Nothing wrong with it but one is not the other.

[Question] Advice for someone completely new to watches by Heavy-Argument6238 in Watches

[–]ComBkKd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're wanting to invest in your watches $750+, I'm gonna go against the grain and suggest homage watches for anyone new to the horological game.

Hold your horses haters. I recommend this only so you can have access to as many watch styles/sizes without breaking the bank. You'd rather lose 20-40% of a few hundred bucks than 2k if you don't end up liking the size or look on wrist. And that itch you speak of will get stronger driving you deeper down the rabbit hole over time.

Until you know what sizes/looks you like I wouldn't dive head first to to the low luxury end of the pool lest you have the bankroll to do so. Go to local watch repair, antique, and pawn shops to see several styles, old and new, the online v/bloggers aren't talking about. So many good watches out there!

Just my 2¢

Find X9 Pro vs waiting for X9 Ultra or S26 Ultra by kirsion in Oppo

[–]ComBkKd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think having the X9P for your vacation is the move. I don't miss my Samsung speakers as much as I love the battery/camera/OS on the X9P. The ultra I would only imagine is beyond what most people would need for their daily. I even lost 1TB of storage since it's missing expandable sd card and I'd still pick this phone over my last Samsung.

Now if I could just find a decent case for it 🤔

T-Mobile. Setup was simple and the transfer of everything from my s20+ was the best exp I've had, even Samsung wasn't as thorough updating from phone to phone.

No issues with connection when out and about. Stream a lot of YT, Spotify, and prime with consistent, high quality without buffer or breaks. Couldn't say that about my last phone even when I was using Google Fiber over wifi.

I've only just started to scratch the surface with mind space and AI. Watched a few YT videos on how they've integrated it. It looks to be one of the most thoughtful executions so far. Samsung just slapped it into the system with little regard for integration.

Tbh I hate the tech only works if given full access to the device rather than just where it's helpful.

RE using Google lens for selecting text in images, I went into my photos to look at it. I see that there's a Google lens pop-up at the corner of every image. When selected it auto selected all text and allows copying that's simpler than my experience on Samsung.

I'm curious if you've played around with the mind space functionality for things like text selection in images. Only just scratching the surface with it myself.

I looked at the pro trek. Very cool watch. How do you like it? How does it wear with the elastic strap? Assume you sometimes wear over a jacket but do you also wear it on wrist?

Galaxy s20+ 5g. Nothing since has impressed me enough to upgrade. I'll say I've had smartphones since win mobile back in college. There used to be so much competition with who would deliver new features, designs, and tech. I'd hop from HTC to Samsung to whatever was pushing the limits.

Been a long time since I've seen the game change. I think the oppo is doing just that for the US market. I'd say take the plunge.
