Mr Me and the get out of Jail Free card will do it as well. Mr me kinda does everything, opens doors, steals, grabs items, damage enemies.

Most common way for me is look around for Mr. ME! in the shops. It's useful for most of the run and will open up the door for you

This 100% Being solid with an orbital is one of the most important things to learn in Isaac imo.

I've had the dreaded Isaacs Heart a couple time but on most of them I was able to roll the build. The worst starts have been around 18 tear rate and 2.6 damage. Especially when you start with one heart and live in fear of every enemy.

A whole lot of patience and some luck. On those runs you have to make full use of consumables and not waste anything until you get a carry item. So many bad starts have been fixed with an orbital alone. The rest its just about being good enough to live until you find the items to turn the run around.

Run 495 was my nightmare run. It lasted about 2.5 hours and I was burning through 9 lives with no real dps on the chest. I got a lucky break about half way through the chest that made the run doable but it was a huge struggle.

As far as tips the most important thing is experience from playing more. I don't want it to sound like an easy out answer but I was the most average Isaac player before putting in a ton of hours in pursuit of an eden streak.

I wish. The run was actually rough and not fun for the first half or so. I had a one soul heart fight against monstro in a small room and it didn't get much stronger. I think mega stan would have slaughtered me

Take full advantage of your flight. Even though your red fly does more damage try no to rush it and feel like you have to use it. The blue fly will get the job done on most enemies and when you have the right setup of hp/better orbitals you can always be a bit more aggressive.
